Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Empire 3/5

Graced with great performances from Garfield and Stone, The Amazing Spider-Man is a rare comic-book flick that is better at examining relationships than superheroism. If it doesn’t approach the current benchmark of Avengers Assemble, it still delivers a different enough, enjoyable origin story to live comfortably alongside the Raimi era.

The Guardian 4/5

It's the successul synthesis of the two – action and emotion – that means this Spider-Man is as enjoyable as it is impressive: Webb's control of mood and texture is near faultless as his film switches from teenage sulks to exhilarating airborne pyrotechnics. It's only towards the end, when there is no choice but to revert to CGI – as Rhys Ifans' Lizard goes on the rampage – that The Amazing Spider-Man gets a little less amazing: cartoony reptilian carnage has just lost its power to enthral if it's rather obviously happening inside a computer.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

The Film Pilgrim

Penned by writers of Zodiac, the original Spider-Man trilogy and the Harry Potter franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man is perpetually fuelled by ever-changing moods and styles. Whilst this may give off a sense of odd-pacing, you could also argue that it ties in well with the film’s plot which is almost akin to Jekyll & Hyde – in both senses of the literal monster, The Lizard, and Peter Parker’s own internal difficulties.

The Amazing Spider-Man might not meet some of the absurdly high expectations that some people may have, but it certainly does not disappoint in any respect. Marc Webb has continued his fascinating career with an entertaining blockbuster that packs an emotional punch and delivers all of this in charismatic style.

Hot damn good reviews all around

"Finally, though, Spider-Man re-begins in style."

This movie should get the mediocre Raimi films taste outta my mouth!

For those that have seen this: does the scene with peter with the bum in the subway car make sense? LOL, the one from the odd little vid that had me asking, 'WHAT THE?'

Since I'm avoiding as much promo / scene stuff as I can, this was the first thing I thought of when I read this.

They just showed the most awesome ad for this after the England game. Pretty psyched for this.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I wasn't aware that the guys from Star Trek and Transformers were handling the sequel:

Alex Kurtzman spoke to Superhero Hype about his and Roberto Orci‘s work on The Amazing Spider-Man 2:

We jumped on (it) because we were so impressed with the movie and what Marc Webb has done with the movie. I just adore Matt Tolmach, who is the producer of the movie, and everyone at Sony has been so supportive of us. We felt really good about it and really passionate about it. When you’re growing up, if you’re a superhero lover, it’s like Batman, Spider-Man and Superman are the holy trinity of superheroes, so the opportunity to get involved with any one of those is like you get to let your kid play again. We’re exec. producing as well and they’ve been very generous about letting us be involved with the process. But certainly what we don’t want to do is step on any toes and we’re really just there because we love Spider-Man so much.

Star Trek was awesome. As long as it's more that than Transformers, I'm cool with it.
