Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

The recent movies, especially Marvel Studios, implementing many aspects of the Ultimate universe makes this point ring hollow for me.

Example? The only movie that comes to mind is Incredible Hulk and that had no Ultimate aspects to it. Since they haven't made an Invincible Iron Man or Mighty Thor movie yet they don't count and can definitely use Ultimate aspects. Am I wrong to expect more Amazing aspects in an Amazing Spider-Man movie? Why not just call it Ultimate Spider-Man because it sure as hell wasn't Amazing.

Went to see this last night in 3d, i would say i enjoyed this more than any of the original 3 films and i found Andrew Garfield alot more likeable than Tobey, the special effects were great and the Lizard was awesome.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Something technical I would like to add about this movie. It has a very 'TV' feel to it in the sense that the scope of the movie is smaller.

The Raimi films has an epic quality to it and New York actually feels like New York. The New York in this movie feels a little generic to me. ASM has a lot of night photography while Raimi has a lot of day photography.

The CGI seems better here because most of it night and it is easier to make CGI look convincing in a night setting.

The web swinging shots are not as good as the Raimi films. I am pretty sure most of the swinging shots are actually CGI in ASM instead of actual shots of the city in the first three movie (only spidey was CGI, they actually swing the camera high and low all over the city using this camera called the Spidey cam).

In ASM the camera has a videogamey quality to it in the sense that it makes impossible motion that a real camera could never do. It is exciting when you first see it but after a while I couldn't help but feel that it lacks a certain reality to it.

I'm thinking this film was to test the waters. If it failed then they will be glad they didn't give it a big budget but if it succeeds then they will do there damnedest to make the second one on a much more epic scale. I have a feeling asm2 will be the new tdk.

While it's clear that a sequel will likely be larger, the studio, financially, really isn't in the condition to play money games like that. Had Amazing Spider-Man failed, the license would've been sold to Disney.

Did anyone buy the comic to go with this movie? Is it worth picking up?

Shield, Nick Fury, and Hawkeye are all more based on the Ultimate universe than 616.

And I'm not sure what definition you're using, but sticking to walls, fighting monsters, and saving cars from bridges seems pretty amazing to me.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Is that from the game?

Yeah, in the game, a lot of Spidey's animal themed villains are the result of cross species genetic manipulation, Rhino, Scorpion, Vermin, Iguana, etc.

Not sure if Vermin is supposed to be the same creature as the rat from the movie, but it makes sense.
