Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Those who like it make me question why they enjoy films.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Some spoilers, I guess:

So many plot lines were left dangling and unresolved. This movie felt like it got retooled a lot at the last minute. Lots of material from the marketing was gone: "If you want the truth about your father, come and get it." There was obviously more to the story that got cut out. The search for Ben's killer is abandoned. The antagonistic Indian Oscorp official vanishes from the plot. Did Peter's parents vanish, or were they killed in a plane crash? Why was Peter special? "Do you think what happened to you was an accident?" Another trailer line that points to a plot point that got cut from the film.

There was obviously a lot more intrigue and connection between Peter, his father and Dr. Connors that didn't make it into the film. The "untold story" they advertised didn't end up getting told--I can understand wanting to retell the origin story to change the details. But when you end up removing most of those details from the final cut, you are left with a movie full of holes that ultimately feels unnecessary.

I don't really get why you'd even go see this? Weren't you the one last month claiming that the studio is trying to attract people like you that don't want to see another origin movie? Why didn't you skip it? Buying a ticket for something you claim you don't want to see, then being SURPRISED it didn't fulfill your expectations... :cuckoo:

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I still like the first two Raimi movies best. I like Toby as Peter Parker. He gets dumped on all the time and stays pretty positive no matter what. Plus Spider-Man had Macho Man Randy Savage in it, so that's a big bonus as well.

I was entertained by this movie. It dragged at certain parts and I felt the emotional impact of certain events weren't as strong as they were in Spider-Man. I'm still looking forward to seeing the sequels, though.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I gave it a chance. Sometimes movies surpass your expectations. If I only saw movies I was certain to enjoy, I'd never be surprised.

I paid 50 cents.

See, I wanted to be proven wrong. I wanted them to say (in the film, metaphorically) 'Hey you...you're not interested in this film yet? WELL SUCK ON THESE RIGHT HERE BRAWWWWWW" and show me something I have never seen yet.

But that never happened. It was the same Raimi movie with a more angry Parker, better love interest, and a less interesting Aunt and Uncle.

So, I had no expectations, and the movie never went above and beyond to show me a good film. It showed me a decent film that wasn't any different then Raimi's.

The death of his parents in the plane crash is hinted to be caused by the indian guy or at least by Oscorp, his search for uncle bens killer seems to stop after Stacy point out his vendetta against guy who look like him, also his acceptance of a greater role than just a hunter of that one guy. your right about most of that. I'm guesing they didn't want this to be like Ang Lee's hulk maybe so they cut some of that out. I would class it a "Thr Untold Story begins"

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

If my parents died in a plane crash, and I didn't know, i'd probably re-act......:lol

But Peter Parker is a hard kid. That means nothin. Click click, Conners was friends with my dad, click, click, Parents died in a plane crash, blah blah, click click... Oooh look, the new Dubstep album is out, lemme download that too.

Martin Sheen and Sally Field were FAR superior characters. aunt May cared for Peter's condition and behaviour and Uncle Ben was well funny, they did more in this film that their equivelent characters in the others.

Well you saw it differently than i did, Peter always stated they left or they were gone, not they were alive, i saw it as they left for a myterious reason and then died and he knew all along, the mystery was why they left in the first place

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I was hoping for a more emotional engagement, but this one didn't do it enough for me. It was like watching a story unfold. granted Emma Stone acted great, but there were plotholes and pacing that didn't keep me engaged the whole time. Case in point -- how did PP master the art of web slinging THAT fast?? I mean he knew how short to keep it, and how much to dispense!

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

He didn't know they were dead! If he did, he would've said "My parents left me, and died!"

He never led on he knew about anything afterward.

And Aunt May was fine. But Uncle Ben was a goddamn idiot. He never had any warmth, or compassion. Neither did May. She was nice...but she felt like a side character, rather then this force that will help shape Peter or something.

Raimi's Uncle Ben and Aunt May were far nicer people. Uncle Ben didn't deserve to die. He was trying to be a kind man, trying to help he crook...and he got shot for it. Accidently, or on purpose...he wasn't nearly as stupid as Uncle Ben was in this movie.

Who would ever do something like that in real life?

I can forgive some stupid minor characters...but the very character that shapes Peter's life? Ahh...no.

Also, he became Spider-Man for revenge. Not because he wanted to help people. He didn't really learn anything.

Maybe that was cut. Meh,.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I liked that, it wasn't until he saved the kid that he realised he needed to be Spider-Man, if he wasn't there the kid would've died. That was the moment he "became" Spider-Man, capped off with him saying his name and accepting the identity.

Honestly who among us would decide to go and give up ones life to selflessly help others every night? This was more believable as it hit home how he had to do this. How, like his Uncle Ben said it's not a choice but a responsibilty.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Saw this today. Very hit-and-miss for me. I found the first hour deadly dull so I wasn't all that engaged when it finally picked up. I don't like to piss on parades so I'll just say I did like:

Emma Stone
Lizard was cooler than I thought (but I'm a sucker for a giant monster)
I liked Spidey's slim physique a lot, moreso in the live action stuff where Garfield was actually performing Spider Man. I much preferred his Spidey to his Parker performance which was too deliberately mannered for me.
Some of the fight choreography and Spidey animation was pretty slick
Super Rat!
