Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

My favourite scenes...

Spidey webbing up the sewer junction to feel the vibrations of the web.

The cranes lining up for him to webswing (got goosebumps here)

Peter humiliating flash with the basketball

Lizard in the labcoat

Peter having problems adjusting to his powers, especially the train with the womans shirt :lol

Spider-man crawling across the ceiling and all over webbing up the Lizard at the school

Spidey choosing to save the kid rather than chase the Lizard

The dinner arguement with Captain Stacy

Flash's Spider-Fan tee

Revealing who is to captain Stacy

Gwen forgetting to tell Peter her apartment number

Stan lee's best Cameo ever

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I saw this Midnight show, so i had time to reflect.

Its a great movie, it has some emotional stuff and i do like the characterization, strong villian and performances.

But in the end, it just doesnt stand on the same scale as the first 2 films.

My big gripe was
When Uncle Ben died, it felt so rushes like he had to die before peter put on the suit, AND i know thats the mythology but when Sony and the filmmakers are like THIS IS THE UNTOLD Story, and its so different from the first film and they dont deliver. Even the very end were Peter doesnt wanna be with the girl.

Some things were different, and i liked that, but other stuff was so close to the original plot it didnt feel right, mabey it just wasnt long enough for a reboot.

But i did enjoy the movie, i liked Garfield and Stone, I will see a sequel when it comes out, AND i will support it. But with movies like this, ya gotta be bold, and different.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Now that I know that Sony made a Spider-Man origin movie where Uncle Ben does not say "with great power comes great responsibility" it almost sounds like they were admitting defeat and conceding that they bow to Sam Raimi as delivering the "true" origin that they assume everyone has already seen.

Michael Keaton made "I'm Batman" famous but it was still awesome to see Nolan and Bale put their spin on those famous words.

Good review, Nova!

I'm gonna go see TASM again tomorrow! :yess:

Wish I could, but probably won't make it back to the theatre until TDKR is out. I was in the restroom during the school fight/Stan Lee cameo, what a bummer time to get up. :pfft:

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

He didn't know they were dead! If he did, he would've said "My parents left me, and died!"

He never led on he knew about anything afterward.

And Aunt May was fine. But Uncle Ben was a goddamn idiot. He never had any warmth, or compassion. Neither did May. She was nice...but she felt like a side character, rather then this force that will help shape Peter or something.

Raimi's Uncle Ben and Aunt May were far nicer people. Uncle Ben didn't deserve to die. He was trying to be a kind man, trying to help he crook...and he got shot for it. Accidently, or on purpose...he wasn't nearly as stupid as Uncle Ben was in this movie.

Who would ever do something like that in real life?

I can forgive some stupid minor characters...but the very character that shapes Peter's life? Ahh...no.

Also, he became Spider-Man for revenge. Not because he wanted to help people. He didn't really learn anything.

Maybe that was cut. Meh,.

He knew his parents were dead but was more disturbed and upset by the fact that they basically abandoned him with no real reason told to him. Whether the later movies show it was a hoax or not remains to be seen.

The key scene was when he was doing the web search on his father, there's a split second image of a newspaper article that states something along the lines of "Oscorp Scientist Richard Parker and wife die in Plane Crash". If you re-watch the movie, look out for that.

Also, have you read Amazing Fantasy #15? Peter Parker originally becomes Spider-man for less-than-noble purposes. He uses his talents FIRST to make money and test his powers, goes on TV and becomes a celebrity rather than the superhero gig. He then uses the identity AND his new powers to seek revenge on Uncle Ben's murderer...who he doesn't realize until AFTER catching him and taking off his mask that he is the same burglar who he let get away earlier. That is when Peter realizes his negligence and his irresponsibility with his Spider powers.

Uncle Ben originally gets shot in AF #15 because he reached out for the Burglar when he invaded his home.

Amazing Spider-man nixed the whole wrestling stuff, but captured the same moment in a different manner. He felt morally responsible for his Uncle's death and it was at that moment that he dedicates his life toward helping others WITH his gifts and the whole "Great power and great responsibility" mantra sinks in.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I said it before. If you're going to reboot a movie, THIS is how you do it. I think the big thing is the cast. They just work together, i actually give a damn about them unlike Tobey and Kirsten.

I think the sequel truly has the potential to be AMAZING.

8/10

He felt morally responsible for his Uncle's death.

He never said they were dead in the film. Nor implied that. Which made the "reveal" of their deaths to be pretty lame.

And no. I have never read the comic nor will I ever read the comic.

I don't need to. The movie should work as a film, without the comics.
