So, new hardware by Windows.

Whatever you think of them, and putting aside your love for all things apple, it's great to see the big W doing things differently and innovating in some ways.

Surely this will make apple quit playing it safe each year.

Great lineup of devices, a bit overpriced IMO, but what isn't at launch.

Kudos to Microsoft this time.

Also, 3D Touch on the 6S is the ****. Can't go back to not having it.

I can't get my iPhone 5 to sync...backing up, iTunes on my PC doesn't even recognize my iPhone when connected. I tried the basic trouble shooting (i.e. signing in, restarting my computer) but still nothing. Any thoughts?

Tried two different lightning cables...Apple brand (although it's fraying...this is my second Apple lightning cable that has frayed) and a third party cable.

My PC does recognize the iPhone (5, in case that makes a difference) as it asks to import the pictures.

I last synced and back uped the phone in August or so.

Check device manager to see if an unrecognized device shows up when you plug the iPhone in. If so, you will need to go into that unknown device entry and tell it that it's an iPhone.

Definitely a bad cable. They stop working so fast, even apple branded ones.

Waiting on my 6S Plus to arrive, should be here in the next 2 weeks. My 5S just decided to kill itself so I'm currently phoneless.

Had a chance to try the 3D Touch yesterday on my brother's 6S Plus, definitely very nice - you can expect every phone manufacturer to copy this next year in one way or another.

Apple's financials once again shame the rest of the mobile and PC industries - and guidance suggests they plan to do it again in three months time.

What's even more incredible is that the 6s had only been on sale for a couple of weeks only.

Finally got my iPhone 6S Plus :) sofar very happy with it, 3D touch is a nice addition!

Update on my posts RE not getting my computer to recognize my iPhone a few weeks back: as many suggested, it was the cord. Thanks for all that offered advice.

Another question: when importing a CD to iTunes, what encoder is best? I just imported a CD using the Apple Lostless Encoder (something like that) and it doesn't sound all that great (although it may be the Sony speakers I'm using).

To rip CDs, use FRE:AC (freac) or Max instead of iTunes. You can encode in any format you want, but make sure to turn on the Paranoia ripping option for best results while actually reading form the disc. Apple Lossless (ALAC) and FLAC are perfect bit-for-bit copies of what is ripped - great for a master copy (I always save a master on new rips). For a portable format, I now always encode with LAME (via Max) to MP3 VBR with the highest quality and joint stereo - I used to batch-encode with LAME on the command-line using custom parameters.

Thanks for all the info, Pixel. :lol

So Target has a Black Friday deal for a 16GB iPad 2 Mini for $269, plus an $80 giftcard. I know that Apples up to Mini 4 now, so I'm a little hesitant about buying "old" tech...but I was going to get them as Christmas gifts for my 9 and 10 year olds. Thoughts?

****, an ipad is more than enough.
i wanted a game and watch and i got a pair of socks and a wimpy sweater when i was 9.

Another "Apple" question...I could probably google it, but you guys have been great so far in giving me answers :lol.

My 9 year old got an iPod Touch 6th Gen. She's too young to have her own Apple ID, so I signed in using mine. Whenever she iMessages someone with another Apple product it says it's from me. Is there anyway to differentiate users on the same Apple ID? (Without creating an Apple login for her with a fake birthday to bypass the age requirement)

As an aside, the more time I spend watching my kids with an iPad and the more time I spend with an iPad myself, I'm starting to think I need to move them over to a real computer sooner rather than later. I can't help but think that the iPad will only serve to make them stupid.

It's a frustrating and disabling device which I feel strongly promotes lazy behavior and an inability to problem solve. Interaction with the OS is so rigid and unintuitive it's enforcing only behaviors that will eventually limit the person using it.

As a shareholder I love to see Apple's bottom line padded out by sales of their iOS devices. As a professional designer and someone with a passion for engineering, I'm disgusted by the state of mobile computing today.
