Every live action movie Batman had crow make up, this movie just doesn?t pretend it?s not there.

This. I?m glad they are showing the eye makeup cause it always bothered me when he took off his cowl and he had a perfect face.

That's not actually true, noir/gothic brooding is entirely different from long hair and crow makeup

Actually it is. Gothic is pretty much emo with another name. Batman is emo. People just don?t like to accept it. Dressed in black , always brooding , angsty and angry, sits in a dark cave and dwells on his life for hrs. Definitely sad. In the gotham series he even caused pain to himself. He?s definitely emo. The thing is he was created before the emo scene took off. Imagine if he were made today?

He?s not doing it cause it?s a phase it?s just what he is.

Also he doesn?t have long hair.

Well the suit is dark for stealth reasons, but yes he is emo for sure - early in his career.

As he ages and continues his war on crime, that probably changes for him. Probably why he takes on wards, to save them from the same fate, gives them a focus.

Bruce Wayne, if you're reading this: You can have both my parents.......they're a pain in the A$$!

My Batman knowledge consists of The Animated Series and for better or worse, all the live-action movies. I feel like which each movie, they've continuously downplayed his playboy status. Bale and Afleck seem to briefly touch on it but it's definitely not as focused as it was in Batman Forever/B&R.

I know all the Pattinson defender groan when Twilight is mentioned, but is there really any other way that his portrayal of Bruce Wayne won't be similar to Edward in those movies? Playboy is hardly the vibes he has judging from the trailer.

That's actually a really good point. We often get brooding rich guy by day, brooding crimefighter by night, so we lose out a bit on the dichotomy.

We saw Batfleck Bruce playing drunk at the party, Bale Bats frolicking with supermodels and ballerinas so definitely a bit more there ... but I imagine that could be explored more. Battinson doesn't look like he's fun at parties.

If the movie lives up to the latest trailer i'll definitely like to pick up a Pattinson Bats...but the emphasis is on the If...:)

The costume and the film would have to be exceptional. I only have a Returns Batman and getting another version of the character will trouble me. :rotfl

Emo/Gothic = Edward Scissorhands.

It's funny watching pop culture (sub-culture I guess) change. 'Emo' is after my time, and I'm never comfortable with the way it gets used interchangeably with 'Goth' these days, since I actually came of age in that scene when it was still small and weird enough ... fallout from the post-Punk, New Wave age ... that no one actually *in it* called it 'Goth' except as a joke, and the general public thought all of us 'Alternative' kids were a bunch of Satan worshippers and didn't know what to call us.

The two were quite different, in spite of some superficial similarities. Who knows what it is now, or what's left of it, anyway. Post-modernism has smeared everything together. Used to be you saw a young woman with half her head shaved and dramatic make-up, you knew you had Skinny Puppy and The Sisters of Mercy in common. Now she's just as likely to listen to Drake and Billie Eilish. :rotfl

Ergo, contemporary Batman is probably a Katy Perry fan or something. :lecture

(To be fair, I don't listen to Skinny Puppy or the Sisters much these days. I'm too happy.)

Skinny Puppy was awesome, and you just brought me way back. Of course, I can go way back to the Dead Kennedys.

Punk and New Wave were also totally different in their day, yet somehow merged over time. Like Punk to New Wave, Goth is far edgy than Emo... but they share the same heart.

Puppy was *amazing* in concert. Love the Dead Kennedys although they initially pre-dated my teen years by quite some time, they (and hardcore punk in general) were still part of that overall scene in my city, albeit tangential to the more theatrical stuff I was into.

(Goth and Emo do share the same heart, as you say.)

Batman Returns and Tim Burton were enthusiastically embraced by the alternative scene when it came out, which is one of the reasons I have such a fondness for that movie. Back then there was just ... *less* of everything, which a lot of people after Gen X can't wrap their heads around, so when something like Burton Batman happened it was *important* because we were all so hungry for resonant material.

Whatever time period it's set in, The Batman has a definite '90s vibe and that's part of its pull for me, based on the one trailer anyway. Hope springs eternal.

I like my Bats more real world...the dark and grittier the better. So if the movie is good and packs an emotional punch i'll be happy. The costume is secondary but i hope it evolves within the story...

Already can see how this will give me Earth one vibes. ccdf4f3dd521768de261fc6b9bc318ca.jpg

You're confusing the Hot Toys of today with the Hot Toys of the pre-Disney era.

Hot Toys was a different beast during the Nolan movies...

Ouch.

Too soon, man. Too soon.

If this isn?t I?ll lose hope in them as a company and officially brand them a Disney /marvel service .

Meanwhile Michael Keaton just had to... look like Michael Keaton and no one ever would have ever guessed he was running around at night as a vigilante beating people up. :D

Nolan's trilogy had a lot of events playing out at once with a quickly evolving pace. I welcome a slower burn type of Batman film that is in full detective mode.

We'll agree to disagree as I think there is a clear distinction. Not all dark is the same

I think comparisons are inevitable which is a shame as this will be a great film IMO

Bale was a step in the right direction in terms of portraying the millionaire playboy side of him (only in begins and TDK though)

So to me it seems like Riddler is guiding Batman to finding out that theCourt of Owls exists and had a hand in the murder of his parents. I think that discovery will then spur him to be less of a vengeful spirit and find himself as a less angsty Batman, but he'll also unwittingly play into Riddlers hands in helping for him to achieve something along the way, probably something to do with Penguin.
