Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

:mwaha

People don't realize that directors are intimidated by the notion of having to top Nolan's legacy. That's going to continue to play a huge role with anyone who dares take on the challenge of making something as memorable and expertly made as TDK.

Affleck and Reeves are dodging expectations from a fan base impossible to please.

At this point, a guy at the level of Fincher would be the best way to go. Mainly because it no longer becomes a question of "Can TDK be topped?" but rather "What will a David Fincher Batman movie be like?".

They need someone big to helm this, bigger than Reeves, like what they're doing with SS2 in recruiting Mel.

I think there's some truth to your point about the high expectation of a new Batman film. Even Leto had trouble escaping Ledger's shadow, and he was just an actor playing a role.

Affleck was not just expected to make a good Batman film, instead, it had to be the best Bat film ever. He was going to "save" the DCEU.

That's a lot of pressure for any director, not just Affleck. However, I think the underwhelming reception of BVS and SS should make it easier for any filmmaker to make a Batman film.

I don't think people have high expectations now.

Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

That's the bandwagon opinion. I loved MOS [as did many] and while BvS wasn't perfect I very much enjoyed what Snyder did with it (specially in the Ultimate Cut).

So yeah, right now its cool to crap on the DCEU and wish its demise. On the other hand if the MCU delivers a turd its not cool to criticize them.

I don't follow the bull**** rules of the internet.

It's not "cool" to crap on them. They just suck. Everybody and there mom knows WB tried to play catch up and it shows heavily. Killing superman in his second movie would make any dc purist mad. I want DC to succeed. Can't stand some of marvels movies but WB doesn't get these characters, they waiting years to give Wonder Woman her own damn movie cause they were scared she wouldn't sell . What kinda **** is that? Hell even flash they had no faith in.

I honestly don't want another dark knight . Just make a good batman movie. I mean yea I know I'm in the minority but I'd rather see them just make a batman movie that doesn't have to be huge or anything. Adopt the red hood storyline and call it a day but nope. WB is to stupid to even do that. Whatever.

Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

If Mel doesn't make another MM movie but directs a WB Superhero movie I will be none too pleased about it.

Eh, everyone and their mothers know who Jason Todd is at this point, so I think it would be a bit weak. That said, they still need to address the dead Robin thing.

Any DC purist SHOULD be angry about the doomsday poop garbage they shoved in at the last minute....

This has absolutely nothing to do with intimidation of Nolan, and trying to top him. That's nothing but an excuse, and head in the sand denial about the incredible mess the DCU is in right now. It has everything to do with two talented directors seeing how poorly the studio has handled everything with this universe, and realizing there's no fixing it. Even if there is fixing it, they're not being given the time or the creative freedom to do what needs to be done to try, and salvage something out of all this garbage. From the very moment Batman v Superman was announced I knew WB had no intentions of delivering quality films. They saw Avengers break a billion dollars at the box office, and have been blinded by dollar signs ever since. Guys like Reeves, and Affleck see it, and have no desire to be a part of it. It will only be a matter of time before Affleck is gone completely. I figured they'd play nice, and Affleck would at least appear to be on board until JL comes out, but at this rate it feels like it will be a miracle if that happens.

Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

The ending of bvs should have made all DC fans furious.
Theres nothing good about doomsday or superman dying this early. That was such an abomination of an ending
( plus the "ding ding ding ding" rotten cherry on top...

I almost wish they made a movie in the style of batman forever where lex luthor and ghetto joker join forces to mess with batman :lol :lol.

Imagine lex and joker acting the way jim carrey and tommy lee did while affleck tries to do a serious movie :lol

The false narrative of the internet continues.

I'm just glad I read through the bull**** and don't subscribe to such bollocks.

There's some truth to this post too.

WB didn't start a DC film division until 2016.

They said the directors were going to be in charge, then they get trailer companies to edit their films and take over when they don't like the director's vision :lol

WB executives probably made it difficult for Affleck to work on the film, so he left.

Exactly, and people think he's going to want to stick around to star in it? It's only a matter of time before he's gone all together.

Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

these rumor reports are silly. saying negotiations broke down but he could still be the one? LoL

just report when there is something official and final. same with gibson for SS2. plus directors coming and going happens all the time. sometimes we hear about it sometimes we dont.
