Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

Yeah, its Singer who's responsible for jump starting the modern-day CBM genre. He opened X-Men with a Jewish boy being ripped from his family. That set the tone for how serious this material could be if adapted properly.

Nolan learned from that and took it further.

I'd say Singer took it even further in X2, but X-Men films could never be as grounded as a Batman movie.

X2 is as serious if not more serious than Batman Begins just not as grounded, but yea TDK certainly took it to another level.

Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

I suspect we're going to be getting a very grumpy Jye this year with Logan getting so much praise. He's going to look for every thing he can find to tear that movie down :lol

Logan might be my Fury Road for this year.

Everybody loved FR but me. :lol

Cinematic Wolverine in costume > X23

Ughhh, can they just give Wolverine back to Marvel already.

Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

I stand corrected, courtesy of the Hugh Jackman (although of course Nolan doesn't admit to being influenced) -

Funny enough, I remember catching a plane while we were promoting The Prestige with Chris Nolan [who] said to me that he’d always had the Batman in his mind. Even way back before 2000, he had the version of Batman that he ended up making in his head. He said, ‘when I went into the cinema and saw X-Men, I said damn, that’s my idea.’ The idea that you could really dive in to the emotional life, to the vulnerability of these characters and that, as well as being fantastical, amazing and action, is what’s going to hook people and make them care. That’s what Bryan did, he had a lot of courage to do that.

Dammit -- I agree.

For a brief shining moment I thought you liked it.

Millions of kids are growing up on it right now -- a movie not bogged down with stilted dialogue, cornball drama, presumed importance, and... capes.

It's as simple and clean a "chase movie" as you can get yet visually stunning.

Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

Fury Road, coolest looking villain who does nothing but sit on a hillside depressed, had the convoy not returned he would still be sitting there not knowing what to do.

Movie still better than Thunderdome but that's not saying much now is it.

Capes > FR

Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

Given their director woes, it sounds like it's time to bring in the Ratner! He'll do all the jobs the other guys pass on with a smile on his face.

Re: Matt Reeves Batman film

I'm not insulting Snyder...
