Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

WB can get a cartoon right but not the 300 million dollar version. :lol

Obviously WB just can't seem to get a handle on their current live-action films but taken as a whole B89/BR/BB/TDK and now this new Lego Batman (assuming it's as good as the reviews say it is) is a pretty sweet line-up.

What a great meme. :lol

It shouldn't be a surprise.

If you think about it, WB only had success with two characters, Batman and Superman, and only when they had a good filmmaker with a vision in charge of those projects. Donner, Burton, Schumacher, and Nolan made their films and found success. There was no DC film division, just good filmmakers in charge of their films. The Lego Batman is very much the vision of a filmmaker and I'm sure there will be a successful sequel, and later more sequels that may or may not be as successful.

Now, when it comes to the DCEU, WB created for the first time ever a DC film division, but without a head figure like Kevin Feige with a vision , a plan , and an understanding of the characters, plus film producing experience. WB is literally making new superhero films and sequels to those movies without a real plan it seems.

That approach doesn't work with a cinematic universe, but it can work with a single film or a film series with no connection to other movies, just like the previous Batman and Superman movies, because they were single stories and simple sequels. MCU had a plan, an endgame, so they made 5 films with the "final" goal being The Avengers. WB made MOS with no plans of creating a larger world. When it didn't work as well as they hoped, they included Batman and just made a sequel, and that's not how you build a cinematic universe. From that point on, they crated the DC film division with several people in charge, a filmmaker who clearly doesn't like Superman, and they make BVS and SS, with JL being the fourth movie. What's the connection between BVS and SS? How does SS in any way connects to JL? How is Gotham City Sirens in any way connected to any of the other films? It doesn't. The MCU created the formula for building a successful cinematic universe, and WB is approaching theirs like they would a single film series, with sequels and no plans. I bet the reason WB is having trouble with the Batman film is probably because they have no idea how to connect the film with that mess of a cinematic universe they created. :lol

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

**** it. Considering most DC news of late has pretty much ranged from "meh" to "bleh," this news excites me.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

Matt Reeves was my 2nd choice after Fincher, so I'm excited to hear he may be the official new director!

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

Personally, I find Reeves to be an upgrade from Ben Affleck as director. Don't get me wrong, Affleck is a phenomenal filmmaker. But I find Reeves films more enjoyable to watch, mainly Let Me In and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Both of them were artistically and emotionally satisfying films that were also very entertaining to watch. Plus, Reeves can be the one to script polish his own films. This is a great move if this turns out to be true.
