so now that 4k is coming out, is there even a point to keep buying Bluray?

It is out, has been for months, just go to your local Best Buy.

I have my doubts as to whether 4K will catch on with the consumer. HD (1080P) was a significant jump in clarity from Standard Def TV's, a difference anybody could see. 4K however, does not appear anywhere near as drastic an improvement to the average viewer, at least not until you start comparing the images on a 80" and above screen. I myself have compared on a 65" screen, and while you could tell which display was 4K and which was 1080P, it was not enough of a difference to get me excited, and certainly not different enough to make me shell out $4,000.00.

So, I think you should be fine continuing to buy Blu-rays.

I'd like to add on that 4k releases might only be beneficial if they get their own restorations that a dvd or bluray messed up. Robocop is supposedly getting an all new one for the 4k release, but the bluray was just fine, imo. Now, releases like - say - Predator, that were near butchered with their bluray restorations, would be something of interest if a 4k release were to fix what they messed up the first time.

What's weird is that the photo of the box is the 3D version but the title and description on Amazon doesn't say that it is.

Are you certain that it is the 3D version.

It should be because the non-3D version is $7.99. If they send the wrong copy, it's going back.
