Homeboy is totally a Cobra Night Creeper though.....

I used to have that figure.

I'll always have my ideal preference for the perfect Star Wars whatever, whether it be a prequel story, sequel story, my personal wishlist for things they could update in the OT, you name it, BUT even "slightly good Star Wars" (or hell outright "bad" SW) is still more enjoyable than most other "masterpieces." I'll *still* take AOTC over Star Trek II for instance. Hell I'll take AOTC over the freaking Godfather II, lol.
Ooof. I cannot go with you on this one :lol

I don't know if there's any series so beloved by me that I would take its weakest entries over classics of other franchises or other genres. Not Star Wars, not Terminator, not Alien.....

Keep in mind that when I say "I'll take it" I don't mean that I actually rate AOTC as a better made film than Wrath of Khan or Godfather II (I hope that was obvious, lol.) I just mean that when it comes down to either/or with respect to actually watching, enjoying, thinking about, discussing, buying collectibles of, and so on that yeah even AOTC blows aways ST:WOK and GFII. Case in point I don't even own either of the latter two films on any format but have two or three versions of AOTC, up to and including the 4K release, lol.

And I think that my sentiments are more widespread, at least here on a site like this, than maybe most are willing to admit for themselves. I was very specific in the two films I called out though. I wouldn't put weak SW above ALIENS or FOTR for instance. I'm just not a big fan of ST or mob movies and I don't just have a blanket love for ALL high end art regardless of subject matter. And I don't think many, if any, here do either. Show of hands, how many would preorder a 1/4 statue of Michelangelo's David over Jango Fett? That's what I thought. ;) How many here would really choose to purchase and frame a reprint of the Mona Lisa once again over the AOTC one sheet or the Batman 89 teaser?

So I don't think we're so different in the end. (a-dev: "I'm nothing like you!!!")

Well, now I'm upset! That sounds pretty cool! Tell me though, did Boba Fett still die an embarrassing death? :)
:lol

Actually in at least one *very* early draft Fett was going to be the main villain of Episode VI (probably back when the Emperor was supposed to live) so I can only assume that his eventual death in said version of the story would have been better than what we got, lol.

And you don't have to be upset because the ST ended up circling back to the story that we should have gotten all along. :yess:

OK, fair enough, good clarification.

Certainly on the merchandise standpoint I'd be more likely to buy a T-850 from Terminator 3 than that DamToys Vito Corleone - as good as it looks, I'm am self-confessedly looking for more childish stuff - robots, aliens, muscles & guns :lol

I totally get this, exactly where I’m at. I get a kick at how I’ve come full circle back around to stuff I loved as a kid, hell within the past year I’ve bought those retro He-Man toys and I don’t think he’s been relevant to me since I was single digits lol.

I haven't gone back to He-man, Transformers or Thundercats. I did however go back to Turtles with NECA's movie line and, as in your case with He-man, I was in single digits the last time I had any Turtles toys. It felt kinda weird buying them, ''what am I doing?'' as I clicked 'submit order' that first time.

Heh, I’ve been buying all the old TMNT toys I loved too. Have REALLY come to appreciate how amazing the older figures sculpts were. It’s been hard not going all-in on the Super7 ones, but I’m trying to be disciplined otherwise I’ll have a room full of figures I have no display space for LOL.

I do still have all my Kenner 90s PotF figures though! My dad kept a lot of my toys up in the attic. I miss the simpler times of jacked Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett lol

Ah that explains why you're so excited for BOBF then. :)

I actually have him on my desk lol. Even Obi Wan had superhero proportions. I know they’re silly but I think they have a charm to them, and I couldn’t get enough of them as a kid.

Every franchise went ridiculous eXtreme roided and wide stanced in the 90s!
Loaded with extraneous accessories and outrageous gear (thanks He-Man and Liefeld) ... :lol

I get where Turd is coming from his desire for a Super Soldier Fett isn’t some crazy out of left field idea but having Fett be thicker now allows him to navigate the evolving galaxy from a different angle not previously utilized.

He was always slow and methodical but now he is just slower and methodical lol

Yep, and I had just about every one of those toys you posted heh

A strong case could be made that being a Star Wars fan is what makes AOTC even *less* appealing to watch than a well-made non-SW movie. If I didn't care about things like maintaining the integrity of the Vader and Yoda characters (among several other aspects of the earlier SW films), at least I could just laugh at the heavy doses of cringe in AOTC.

I can't dispute your assertion that merchandise buying or participation in discussion is far more compelling for even weak SW, but the appeal of actually *watching* something like AOTC all the way through again is almost nonexistent. I don't know how you've been able to keep doing it, but I'm happy for you that even the weakest entries are enjoyable on some level. You are a better fan than I. :duff

For years, I watched the PT repeatedly in order to try to appreciate it because I refused to believe that Lucas was capable of making truly awful SW films. It had to be a problem on my end, and I apparently just wasn't getting it, so watching those damned things was almost an obligatory habit. I don't think those days will ever be returning at this point. Instead, bring on any fine work of cinema, irrespective of genre.
