Not a misuse, it's just...the current use. No matter how stupid it is, words have evolved.

EPIC GAY WHACK SHORTY (that last one is a big WTF to me...I guess it means girlfriend...or hoe, or something. )

I blame rap and Internetz.

Yes it is. Epic should be reserved for ummm something epic. Not the latest transformers movie. :rotfl

I dropped a pencil, and someone said, "Epic fail!!!" I went off on an extended rant about how overused the phrase has become. When everything is epic, nothing is epic.

My wife teaches fourth grade and it's big with her too. It makes people sound stupid IMO. I can't stand people over 20 that say it and people that don't put back shopping carts. It's my two bugga boos. :rotfl

Well, Transformers IS Epic in scope. So, that would be a correct useage of the word. :lol

noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style: Homer's Iliad is an epic poem.
2.
resembling or suggesting such poetry: an epic novel on the founding of the country.
3.
heroic; majestic; impressively great: the epic events of the war.
4.
of unusually great size or extent: a crime wave of epic proportions

Except the 'Impressively great' part. :lol

Now, calling a burger, or car 'Epic'...that does not work. In any way.

No. It is. They're big giant films. :lol

of unusually great size or extent:

So, they fit one definition. :lol

Epic does mean BIG. It also means an epic, heroic tale. That aint what Traners is.

Uneducated you are. :lecture:lol

Or rather you fit the mold for the misuse of the term epic. If epic just meant "big" lots of things would be epic. It's simply a misuse of the word. Period.

"I'm sorry Mr. Peterson but like medically talking about your stuff, you have epic terminal cancer. We could have sliced you up and took dat thing out earlier but now the growth is too epic brah."

So, are you telling me, the definition is not correct? :lol

The one I gave to you? https://dictionary.reference.com/browse/epic
of unusually great size or extent:

It says size. So, i'm not sure what you're trying to say here. :lol

If I said Transformers was epic in scope, that would be a correct usage of the term. If I said "DUDE, TRANSFORMERS WAS EPIC" that would be incorrect.

Do you want to tell me what epic means then? Since I'll just ignore the dictionary. :lol

Granted, there is the main definition of the word-

noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style: Homer's Iliad is an epic poem.

But since all 4 are correct, then I don't see why you're trying to come at me. I AGREED with you about Cabin in the Woods not being "EPIC" and agreed that it was wrong. I just disagreed because Transformers is defiantly epic in SCOPE, and SIZE. Big movie.

Just not a fan I guess. Never was into Buffy. I get the inside jokes and I got the point behind it. In fact I walked out and said good concept. I just didn't like it. :dunno

Maybe I is :cuckoo:

As Roger Ebert said, comedy is like porn. It either works for you or it doesn't.

Just saw this - I enjoyed it. Didn't blow my mind though or anything. I would probably give it a 8/10.

What the FUNK! My first time checking out the Movies forum.I only wanted to look in and see what everyone thought about this Film. But instead I get some English Majors in a debate over the use of the word epic.WHO GIVES A FRACK.
I don't care how long you have been on SSF get the hell outta here.

But can somebody tell me how the Stoner Guy survived??Because we see him get it in the back. Then we see the lever pulled and the blood drained. Then he shows up for an EPIC ending.

sorry if this question was already answered somewhere in this thread as I did not view every reply.

I'm guessing that was just making fun of how there is always someone you wrote off dead that comes back to save the day at the very end.

I think I was the only person laughing hysterically throughout the entire last half of the film. I had a great time, even as a non Joss worshiper. I just really feel like the young crowd didn't get most of the references there at the end in all the chaotic madness.

Oh! And Sigourney! You my girl! :D

So what did the demolition team mean when they said it wasn't their fault? Was that because the stoner was messing around with the wires near the elevator?
