I've seen exclusives on other dealers sites, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. The exclusives usually have a bit of a mark up though.

As for cancellation fees, since you seem to have a very narrow focus you probably don't get as many cancellations as retailers who stock everything from Marvel to Star Wars and on. Just a guess, I could be wrong. I'll keep you in mind should getting the exclusives become costly and I have to get regs instead.

From the perspective of carrying only educational products, I can understand why that may seem "narrow" when compared with all the other things Sideshow has to offer. Believe me, though - there's nothing narrow about the scope of my inventory. Wildlife is universal, and market expands endlessly. Nearly everyone in the world recognizes an actual spider, but not everyone can identify some weirdo in red and blue tights. No offense to Mr. Parker et al.

You're right, narrow isn't an accurate term. I think it may be more accurate to say that your clientele is likely different. Like you said, you have alot of academics as clients, who likely know what they want and are not likely to change their mind. Whereas alot of other retailers have fickle collectors for clients who cancel an item they bought on an impulse or because something better has come along.

I actually did have someone cancel a Sideshow statue last week. First cancellation I've ever had, but probably understandable, given the cost of the item in today's economy. Just asked Sideshow to redirect the statue to me, no big deal.

Personally, I think cancellation fees are a deterrent to keep the customer committed to the purchase. Kind of like the preorder fee for games at the local video game retailer. Scamming schemers.

Oh yeah, my site only shows the regular editions because that's what I normally buy. My customer base typically consists of academics - in other words, people who are too smart and too poor to agree to paying more money than they need to. For anything. They keep me on my toes, LoL.

Since I'm a new Sideshow retailer, I don't know much about the normal rules for exclusive purchases by retailers. All I know is that they had no trouble agreeing to my request for the Deinosuchus v. Parasaurolophus Exclusive and Regular editions when I spoke to them over the phone. :)

Hey now, I'm entrenched in academia and I still shell out the dough for the exclusives! No excuses! ;) :lol

Usually whenever I've seen exclusives on another retailer other than SS directly, there has been a pretty good markup on the piece. Just my experience, but the exclusives for the given prices I've usually only found on Sideshow's website. Hence the term "Sideshow Exclusive". Wouldn't be an exclusive if every retailer had it. :lol

Interesting that you were able to acquire the exclusive for your store.

And yes, most of us have begun receiving the August 3rd notification.

It's nice that you don't allow for cancellation fees. Usually with large online retailers when customers cancel orders, a fee is customarily applied in order to offset the cost of having to order and store the item(s). I'm glad that you have the luxury of not dealing with that. I too find that it often dissuades me from making purchases from other online stores.

Too often I think these larger retailers just end up taking shortcuts in favor of making the quick buck. My philosophy is that a happy customer is a returning customer, so why not go the extra mile to make sure they're satisfied? I always remember whether a buying experience is pleasant or not, and I build my business around that idea. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

I submitted a review for that JP Diorama, though. Quite the letdown, after seeing the Dinosauria diorama in person. LoL.

I think what I find most upsetting is that the box art shows a paint scheme very close to the film version, like somehow the final product didn't end up as planned. What gives? I hope Sideshow does paint updates, like Safari Ltd. does for small figures.

Yeah, I love Tucciarone's work. He even sent me a handwritten letter with a print that I bought of his Cryolophosaurus. Nice guy.

When the Luke and Han as stormies shipped I got my shipment notice the morning after they went out. So fingers crossed.

Factory paint updates on existing pieces = not bloody likely. Not that I blame them. These are high quality statues of a limited release rather than mass-produced plastic toys. While Kenner may release the same Velociraptor action figure with a upwards of 2 dozen different paint apps and packaging, SS simply won't release the same JP statue again but with starkly different paint apps, box, and market it as a new product. While I would have liked a more film accurate scheme, SS encountered a GREAT number of complications with the piece at the factory level, none of which left them pleased but by that point creatively it was out of their hands, unfortunately. "Everything imaginable that could go wrong (during production) went wrong" according to a source I spoke with within SS who shall remain nameless.

I like the choice for color that was rendered in the prototype, but even that wasn't film accurate. Cool, yes, but not film accurate to the SSW dinosaurs. Still, as we've said in every discussion of the piece, the color on production product was greatly divergent from the original prototype.

I will continue to maintain that, rather than this...

... this would have been much more palatable for we JP purists...

The most extensive but worthwhile repaint I've ever gotten on a collectible. Considering the breathtaking detail in the sculpt, it would have been a crime not to have had it done. :rock
