The closing of the political threads is really becoming annoying

I'm not a (contributing) member of any other message board. I like this one. My main interest here is collectibles. But I still like to discuss current topics of whatever is hot at the moment. Right now, it's politics. Obivously, with everyone else giving their opinion, I'm not alone. Which is why if it was in a sandbox area, those who didn't want to see it, wouldn't have to be bombarded by it, as has been the case over the past week or two. It's only going to get worse as the election draws nearer.

The over policing of threads and the forum in general is getting very old very quick. Whether you want to blame the posters for posting borderline posts that are up to interpretation or over zealous forum censors.

We need a non modded section where you can enter at your own risk and people can say whatever the hell they feel like saying. IMO that's what the sandbox should have been but I guess it didn't work out that way. Make a new section and call it The Wasteland or something. Even if you have to accept a "User agreement" or "terms" box before you enter.

It's easy to just say "go somewhere else" but not everyone are forum whores and post on 20 forums a day. They would just like to have conversations with the people they have come to know about things that matter to them without being babysat. I see no reason why this shouldn't be allowed.

I have a feeling if such a place existed here you would notice a lot of people spending a lot of time there......

Interesting idea, but I don't think it would work. People would drag their animosities from the Wasteland into the rest of the board and flame wars would go on for post after post.

good point, and you're probably right. If someone said something offensive, those offended people may stalk that offender in other parts of the board. I can already see that happening in each new rebirth of a political thread. It's really a shame too, because like I said, I only voice my online opinion here, or with non-online/tangible friends. Sometimes I like to play devil's advocate with what I learned here and use it on said friends and vice versa.

But I can see that Dave still leave's the threads open long enough to be entertained before laying down the law.

It is a shame that they get closed, or should have to be but for some reason they all seem to descend into chaos of negativity and unnecessary statements.

We are all here for our common interestest in collecting, be it toys/statues/art, whatever ou want to call it, thats why were here.

I personally love the OT sections but lately it has been so overrun with political/religious/consipiracy threads that anything else doesnt get a look in. The threads are great, even I enjoy reading them to begin with but then it always spirals as the differing of opinions comes out and everyones beliefs that their way is right takes hold, leading to nothing but insults, personal attacks or inappropriate comments.

It just seems that with these threads they all, ultimately become a flame war, no matter how nicely or well intentioned they started out.

What is it that is getting these threads shut down. I have seen FAR more animosity allowed in the Sideshow/Medicom discussions than has been practiced in some of these political threads that are being sealed. I can understand if they get out of hand. But I am seeing too many that are pretty innocent save for maybe the few comments from some who go into the thread solely to post animosity toward the thread, and in those cases it should be those individuals who get the sanctions for those posts.

There are few forums where these discussions can take place in reasonable manners. It is a damned shame to me to see them sealed for what seems to me to be little or no reason at all.

Come on mods...lighten up.:D

Do you know how much raw sewage I have to wade through?
Enough us enough. It would be nice if other discussions could flower and grow but unfortunately the flower seems to be a weed and it's quickly growing on a compost heap.

Lighten up? Nah... Locking up. Now talk about the length of Jedi Luke's monkey arms or Medicom's questionable pricing-- or maybe why Captain America MUST be portrayed by an American... Heck, talk about p!tu's dance moves... Why dogs are better than cats... Find a website where you can rate your body fat in comparison to celebrities--- If you come on this website to blast others and to point out the truth about reality you've been misinformed, the majority of us pop on here to escape from reality. Escapism is fun-- Leave the pundits at the door.

:lecture:duff

Deleting the same nonsense again and again is maddening-- and you do understand insanity don't you?... It's doing the exact same thing again and again but expecting a different result.
:duh

i laugh at the idea that this forum is no place for politics...
you think politics do not affect this hobby? think again!
one simple law change, one simple tax bracket, one simple word from someone high in power, and your friendly neighbourhood Sideshow may start charging double, and for edition sizes that make the number 1000 look like a distant dream.

if we dont want to talk "generally" about candidates and politics, then make it a rule that every political thread has to have some connection to the world of collectibles. I think that's a fair restriction

No -one is saying that politics do not influence or affect collectors.
All most people want from this forum is to participate in talk about our collections, new items etc. Then we have the other sectios for other interests, all light-hearted talk about things in life/films/tv/customs, many choices and many sections that run smoothly and are encouraging to watch as they grow and they are a positive atmosphere.
Even in the Other Topic section we have funny threads that continue as its form of escapism for most. we've had threads have lasted here for years as they are fun, everyone can contribute and its civil.

Everyone is entitle to their opinion, but this is a family forum and all we have seen with these topics especially recently is a descension of the thread into chaos and controversy.
All this spate of political threads have been locked/deleted within days. What does that tell you.

We are a collectables forum, there are plenty of Political forums to choose from if thats primarily what you choose to talk about.

The biggest issue for me is the spillover. We have folks who take their grudges into other threads and try t start flaming eachother and to me that is more annoying than the bickering back and forth in the thread of origin.

As Atom Hues used to say:

Yay TOYS! :woo

I think we ALL know what, or more precisely who the common denominator is in all these banner threads. Get rid of him, and the problem goes away....;)

I think everyone who is sick of the political threads should just derail them with a bombardment of ****ie pics ..... but thats me ........ :monkey1

This board has no place for politics.Go speak about those elsewhere.

:lecture :lecture :lecture

Like I've said before, I am here to discuss collectibles and other "geek" topics. Leave the blowhard debates to any one of the gazillion other sites and blogs on the net that deal with that ^^^^.

When I'm on this site, I like to hear what people think about the latest toy, movie, comic, etc. I really could care less to learn whether you're a leftist whose balls haven't dropped or a right-wing facist who hates everyone.

I think it ridiculous that politics can't be discussed anywhere but the appropriate websites. That's the biggest problem with politics in this country - that everyone seems to think it's never the time or place to have these discussions.

Once upon a time in this country everyone got together anywhere and discussed politics. Communities that discuss politics were able to figure out what it was they really needed and elected officials that got the job done. This doesn't happen anymore (not since Nixon ruined politics for most of the counrty) and now has devolved into partisan rhetoric so everyone has adopted "not the time or place."

We are supposed to be a community so we should discuss the things that affect the community and that is topics besides toys. I don't have any answers for you about how this should be done but censorship is never good.....even on board. If people want to fight outside of said thread then maybe these people are the ones whos should get locked and not the thead itself.
