Anyone know when this is coming out? Amazon.com says Dec. 9th but Amazon.co.uk says Apr. 24![]()
A waste of money IMO. How can it be "complete" when there are still new Star Wars stories and characters being realized in TV shows, games, comics, books, etc.? Star Wars is now ever-evolving, and every other year they'll have to come out with "The Latest and Greatest Must Have Edition" and people will continue to throw their money at it. Anything I want to know about Star Wars I either: A) Already Know or B) Google It
More power to those who want this though.
By that logic, ALL encyclopedias and dictionaries are a waste of money.
Well, in this day and age of instant information and the fact that portable storage devices can store an entire library's worth of material, they are. I've actually seen complete volumes of encyclopedias and other reference books tossed in dumpsters (not that I typically go digging through dumpsters or anything, but it's happening). Plus, actual encyclopedias serve to educate people on facts about our world, not some trivial science fiction fantasy land George Lucas dreamed up. I don't know about you, but I don't ever recall any college class being offered called Star Wars 101. Don't let me rain on your parade, dude. Just put me on ignore and knock yourself out with the encyclopedia. I'm saving my bookshelf space for rare classic leather bound literature. I'll bail out and let you all enjoy your future investment.![]()
Does anyone know? Is this set puerly based on the 6 movies?![]()

Well, first of all I don't think I'll be buying this. But I think you may be misunderstanding the way that most people will be using this kind of book. While you might occasionally want to know what planet Greedo was from or what company manufactured the Millennium Falcon, you're probably right that these are best left to Google. But I think most people wouldn't be using as an actual reference book, but rather as something to leaf through, looking at the pictures and reading any articles that might catch their eye. That's where having an actual book can be superior to using the net.
And I still think it's silly to criticize an encyclopedia because it can't cover things that might happen in the future. In the case of this book in particular, most people are only going to really care about the main 6 films anyway, and that's not going to be changing much.
