Saw it.

Loved it.

Very, very, very good but not quite "great". It IS flawed and I actually agree with many reviews that it's probably 20-30 minutes too long a feels a tad bloated overall. Some elements should have been trimmed, especially since others feel like they aren't given quite enough time.

It's hard for me to rate and rank something like this... something so anticipated and so hyped... immediately after the first viewing, but if pressed I'd have to put it up there with IRON MAN. Definitely one of the 2 best flicks this Summer and probably in the Top 5 superhero movies, period. It's just not the Second Coming. But it's close enough. It's better than BEGINS, and I liked that one a lot.

Anyway, I'm also a bit dazed right now. To be perfectly honest something happened today (a conversation I had) and a thread in the film mirrored it almost exactly. And that knocked me on my ass, especially due to the emotional weight and density of the movie.

I'm in a very brooding place right now.

So Irish, if TDK had been trimmed a bit, would that have made it "great", then? Is that the only flaw it has? what else did you not like about it?

EDIT: This is probably a talk to be had in the spoilers thread.

Without being too specific (in this thread) it's not necessarily the overall length, but that some scenes/sequences feel superfluous while other much cooler, more important scenes seem to go by in a flash. But I do think it could have been paced a bit more tidy.

20-30min too long? Sounds like that's something I'll appreciate. My biggest complaint with any movie I enjoy is that it's too short! Given that most movies I get into have "layers", it definitley takes a couple veiwings to soak it all in. That and becoming familar with the pacing of the scenes.

Christopher Nolan has provided movie-goers with the best superhero movie to-date, outclassing previous titles both mediocre and excellent, and giving this franchise its The Empire Strikes Back.

This makes me happy.

Are the fight scenes cropped close like in Begins?

Not all of them. Overall, Nolan has improved at the fight scenes but there is still some frustration involved in how they're shot and cut. Action remains his weakest link, but it's still a strong-enough link.

Umm......Irish.....unleash some knowledge on the SPOILERS thread.

That's fine with me, I never minded the fights in Begins so I'm sure I'll really enjoy the fights in this movie.

I see I can't read in this thread either!
I'm boycotting reading any of these until after my midnight viewing.
How you guys can spoil so much for yourselves is beyond me....oh well....

Two days!!! (for most of us) :rock

Eh...aw....oh....ooh....I'm so excited for this movie I'm going to be doing the peepee dance for from now until I see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

empire magazine has gave it 5/5 stating

"Ledger’s performance is monumental, but The Dark Knight lives up to it. Nolan cements his position as Hollywood’s premier purveyor of blockbuster smarts – and the Batbike is kinda cool, too."

I know! But for me,

"Starting tonight, Spoilers will die. I'm a man of my worrd." :D

Just 12 and half hours! :horror

I guess I'm so used to checking things out for movies I anticipate, I don't know the difference between a spoiled and unspoiled viewing, but knowing things ahead never taints me, most of the time I have but small pieces of a whole. I probably couldn't nail down 1/3 of this movie overall with what I've seen and heard.

Had to do this:

Buttmunch, "...I'm a man of my worrd!"

Maulfan "...what I've seen and heard."

Me: Hope this movie ain't a turd!" :D

Ain't I a stinker! (Like I'm worried)

But seriously, when I went to get groceries yesterday, the bagboy guy was like, "You are Figuremaster Les!" And I said, "Yeah" and he said, "I have seen your website. Are you going to see Dark Knight at midnight thursday night?" and I said "Yeah" feeling kinda weirded out, but glad to know the bagboy guy was a fan, and he said, "This movie is gonna be the Godfather Part II of Comic Book movies!" and I turned around and all the people in line, women, old folks, teenagers, all of em, were nodding in agreement, YEAH, like they all thought that too!

This movie is gonna be huge! Titanic huge!

I think everyone is going. All of 'em.

:rock

i think this is seriously going to be one of the greatest movies I will ever see. i think after this movie, we may need to have a section solely dedicated to batman! then i'll split my time between "aliens and robots" and "Chris Nolan's Batman"
