hilarious.

edit.
oops sombody already posted it my bad.

Okay so apparently I need to get up to speed on IMAX. I googled "liemax" after seeing it mentioned in the Raiders IMAX thread and it turns out my second viewing of TDKR was on this smaller format. It was still much larger than a normal screen but not true 15/70.

The only true IMAX in Tampa is in a dome at our local Science MOSI. Has anyone scene TDKR in a dome? Is the warped screen worth it for the sheer size of the picture?

Probably.

Lie Max sucks. I saw some of TDKR in LieMax. And while it's cool as a bigger theater, as an IMAX, it fails in comparison. Not pales. Fails.

After reading more I'm not so sure true IMAX is ideal. It sounds like the picture is severely cropped, even when watching TDKR? If that's the case then I'm definitely glad I went with LIEMAX.

Khev, you don't want to see it on a dome. Trust me, it's awful. I saw the 6 min prologue on the Dome IMAX (Omnimax) in Pittsburgh. It's real IMAX but it's quite jarring. I don't think you'd be too comfortable seeing it.

I saw real IMAX for my very first showing (not the dome). I thought it was great. I didn't really notice the problems people had with the aspect ratio changing from non-IMAX to IMAX but that's because it was my first viewing and I was so immersed in it that I didn't notice. On another viewing I did though and it is quite noticeable.

As for the sound quality, I actually went to a normal theater like my third time and it seemed better than the IMAX.

Back in 2008 when I saw TDK in IMAX the sound quality towards the end was pretty bad. The problem I had was that the score was blaring over most of the dialogue. Like Gordon's speech at the end "a silent guardian . . ." The Zimmer soundtrack completely destroyed what Gordon was saying.

Here's a list of IMAX theaters, obviously avoid the dome.

Thanks. Looks like Tampa's got the one damn dome in the state. :gah:

I saw it in Digital IMAX at the AMC Veterans. Oh well. It was much bigger than my first viewing and the sound was epic and nothing was cropped (it would switch to letterbox for the non-IMAX scenes though.) I guess I don't know what I'm missing because it was pretty freaking awesome.

Yeah, you saw the Digital Imax, the fake IMAX ("LieMax").

I've seen digital Imax before as well. It's a bit better than a regular theater, the projection anyway. Compared to the real deal IMAX though, there's no comparison.

It's really hard because the theaters (and I'm sure Florida is the same way) don't specify which is which. I get your frustration. But yeah, that little comparison illustrates the difference between what you saw and what real IMAX is.

Google "Omnimax" or "Dome IMAX" and you'll get an idea what that's like. It's large and the real deal but it sort of envelopes the entire audience. It's even worse if the domes have the rectangular panels.

I saw the prologue back in December this way and I swore to myself that I wouldn't see my first viewing like this. I had great seats but you literally had to turn your head to view certain things. An example would be the CIA agent putting one of Bane's men out of the plane with the gun to his head. The agent was dead center but you had to look bottom-right to see him holding his gun out the door of the plane.

The gag. The hurl. The nausea.

This is Batman,

christian-bale-as-dark-knight-rises-batman-500x375.jpg

Not some contrived relation with some magic ****.

baleprestige.jpg

Oh no, I got it (and even sort of liked it when I saw it years ago) but I don't want to see it muddled in with BATMAN.

That'd be like bringing Buffy the Vampire Slayer **** into Avengers because, "omg, Joshy Whendon worked on it". Or relating all of Burton's weird hot topic crap like Alice in Wonderland with Batman.

It should be ****ing Batman. NOTHING ELSE!

BEGINS

DARK KNIGHT

RISES

Batmobiles, gadgets, villains, escalation, pain, fear, hope, symbols etc. etc. Not some 2006 film that doesn't know if it's a sci-fi flick, a period film or a thriller.

I'd have rather have seen Batman vs. Wolverine with Gollum running around Gotham strangling people. :lol
