It has nothing to do with magic. It has everything to do with story telling.

It's a play by play of the whole ending. Even at the end. You want to be fooled into thinking he died, and the whole thing was a dream, or some bull**** like that. But the scene is simple. The end is simple.

It's just a clever way to tie in Nolan's storytelling style in another film he did.

It's not even official. It's just interesting how that line works with TDKR.

Making something disappear, then bringing it back.

Wrong. All of it.

How does Batman and Catwoman disappear out of thin air if not for magic?

Pretty much yupp

@ proscrastinator
Of course it's strong on its own. Some of us just see a parallel to Nolans other work - what's wrong with that :dunno

Nothin "wrong" per se, since not one of us can actually prove that his point of view is the right one:) I just think it's a little bit forced. Like DiFab said, it's sorta like looking for jesus on a side of a burned toast, or a dog's butt.;)

However, like I wrote before, I do believe those three concepts are strong on their own, without drawing any connections with Prestige, which I personaly haven't even thought of, when viewing the gifs(the first ones).

That's the reason why I brought it up. Couse I thought that DiFabio's post, made it look like this trinity of themes was hurting the "Batman" side of Nolan's movies. Which it doesn't.

Also, ZaCHw117 correct me if I am wrong, but did You even put the gifs(the originals) specifically with Prestige in mind, or was it just, a cool way to sumrise Nolan's trilogy? Couse I get the feeling, that no one even thought of Prestige, before DiFabio brought that up.:)

Even so, its just the ending of one film. When viewed as a whole trilogy, the connotations fall a bit short. Especially since the themes Begins, Falls, Rises are a classical storytelling concepts, that don't need anything else to work.

No they don't. It's just a cool little thing. It's just how Nolan views films. As magic tricks. He doesn't even like showing people how he made his films, he thinks it destroys the illusion.

And it's not like the film needs The Prestige to work. It's just a fun little nod. Like I said. Nothing more, nothing less.

Exactly

For him films are like magic tricks and dreams

Guess who Leo was playing in Inception :lol

And I said I felt it was contrived. I don't like it.

For me, it's like those people that see the blessed Virgin or Jesus himself in a piece of wheat toast. If you look hard enough, you'll find something in anything.

That's exactly what the Prestige thing is to me. A forced relation. Sure it applies but had a fan not thought it up, it wouldn't have been prominent and fans wouldn't cling to it.

EDIT:

:lol you didn't have to edit your post Zach.

Though I like those gifs better. :monkey3

It's not forced at all though. You could connect the DK trilogy to star wars, or star wars to The Prestige etc.... It's not the "cameo" approach you're taking towards. It's about finding foils to one another throughout films as a whole. Story archs, characters, themes. Universal ideas.

Just because The Prestige and the DK trilogy were directed by the same guy doesn't mean that gif is contrived only to Nolan's films.

Star Wars:

The Pledge: Anakin Skywalker
The Turn: Darth Vader
The Prestige: Accepting oneself, and becoming Anakin Skywalker

TDK Trilogy:

The Pledge: Batman's Beginning
The Turn: Batman's "Failure"
The Prestige: Batman's Rising

Same could be said with almost all trilogies, or even films with a 3 act story (which most are).

Fight Club:

The Pledge: Narrator
The Turn: Meeting Tyler Durden
The Prestige: Narrator accepting he is Tyler Durden

And it's not alway character progression, in fact most of it is the story structure.

It's a universal theme. The fact that it matches up nicely with the TDK trilogy, and is directed by the same person is why people seem to gravitate towards that the most.

And I'm not sure what Post you're referring to that I "edited".

I would say comparing to anything else is forced. But The Prestige is pretty fluid and natural.

If you've read or heard Nolan's thoughts on film.

Look below it. :wink1:

Posts only allow 10 images. So I made a choice and posted the prestige gifs next.

I see 9 gif pictures. all Batman related. Originally there was just 3 gif pictures pertaining to the Prestige.

Below that? Your sig.

Below that another post.

Below that the original prestige gif that wasn't there.

"Rises with pain" sounds kind of odd. "Rises in pain," to me, sounds better. It gives off less of a "crippled old man breaking a hip" vibe.

Yeah that works better. But still... rises with pain? Didn't know Peter Boyle was Batman. :lol

Oh god, zombie grandpa Bats. O.O
