Have to say I find rewatching this movie more interesting than TDK.
If I could get an edited highlights version of TDK with all the Joker scenes, the bank heist and the bat pod stuff, that would do nicely (but be around 8 mins long!).
I dunno, to take it to a very base level, this one has more entertaining stuff happening for longer. Sure a lot of the plotting and structure is flawed, but I love Catwoman,
I love the score, I love some of the Bat scenes. I love Tom Hardy, Bane is ok. The script has more humor in it. It's just lighter I guess.

If this movie had been mixed with TDK, and we had the Joker instead of Bane with Catwoman it would have been as good if not better than Begins...

Speaking of joker with catwoman I often think about what could have been had Heath been around and how the third movie would have been done, and can really imagine catwoman fitting into the world of the dark knight, interacting well with the joker. Not that I don't like TDKR or bane but just find it interesting to think how things might have gone differently.

I agree. I recently watched BB for the first time in over six years and must say that I now rank them accordingly:

TDKR
BB
TDK

BB was spectacular! I'd forgotten how crazy good of a "Batman" movie it is, with the Gotham City atmosphere, origin, original costume, Arkham Asylum, Batcave and Wayne Manor.

TDK lost all of the "Batman" atmosphere (save the title character and his vehicles) and replaced it with the backdrop of a traditional crime/mob movie. Bold move, and it works, but I too find myself less interested in watching it from beginning to end. There's SO much Harvey Dent/Gordon/mob/Hong Kong crap that just doesn't hold a candle to the Joker sequences. Its still a great movie but I really have to be in "crime/mob movie" mode to watch it in its entirety.

TDKR continues with the reduced "Batman" atmosphere of TDK but still brings it back slightly to BB by re-introducing Wayne Manor, the Batcave, sewers, and well, live bats. But for the first time we finally have well cast truly engaging female characters, a Darth Vader-esque threat and finally a movie where Batman flies his "Batwing" for more than five seconds.

I agree with everything here about the three movies, especially with regards to begins, it'd easily my favourite of the three for all the reason you listed, Arkham Asylum, Wayne manor, a proper bat cave, an awesome car chase with the Batmobile, the dingy grim Gotham city constantly covered in rain, the narrows, the big animalistic monster of batman.

That said, I love TDK for being the opposite, the bunker is awesome and the penthouse reminds me of the comics where Bruce lived in the penthouse in the city while Grayson was at uni, the batpod is awesome and the streamlined bat suit looks fantastic, but agreed it looses a lot of the batman feel. TDKR kind of started to get a bit more of a batman feel back but then he wasn't around for most of the movie which does put me off the idea of repeated viewings. But I do think it has the best score of the three.

Speaking of which, thanks again Umair for the files. Been through the whole thing and it'd great hearing the score like that, all together, pretty much telling the story of the movie in music form.

I'm trying to avoid rewatching any of the 3 for as long as I can.

Just so I can enjoy them a lot more the next time I DO end up watching them. I love when you go back to a movie you love after years. I did that recently with the LOTR trilogy and it was amazing. I've seen these far too many times over the last few yrs :lol

I often think this too, I've watched all three (though mostly the first two) so many times I think it would be good to have a break. But I find that I sometimes just want to put them on in the background so I can dip in and out and watch the cool stuff, the fight scenes, chase scenes, cool speeches etc. I do think it would do me good though to stay away from them for a while so I can appreciate them all the more down the road.

Batman Begins is still my favorite, although I love The Dark Knight.

I saw TDKR once in the theater, then tried to give it a second chance on Blu-ray and turned it off about halfway through. It will probably be a long time before I try again. I'm happy for those who enjoyed it, but it was just not my cup of tea.

"Well Imax is very expensive so we could only do one take and...."

Seriously directors should avoid IMAX like the plague if it means you only get a single take. Especially when you build your reputation on being so techincally proficient. That to me is the biggest problem with TDKR, it just feels so sloppy compared to everything else he's done in virtually every facet.

It's not so much they get a single take, it's just...more takes cost more money.

Which is why IMAX shouldn't be used for scenes like that. Just big explosions and action scenes. When actual acting is required, other then screaming, stay away.

Yeah TDKR is definitely my least favourite of the three, its the only one that I've had to switch off because I was bored. I was watching it once and got to the point where Blake was talking to Gordon on the roof top and just thought " I'm bored and really not in the mood for this." I've come to the realisation that I really dislike Blake and find him the weak link in the film/trilogy. I can still watch rises and enjoy it but think I have to be in the mood for it, whereas the other two if I start watching them I just can't turn them off.

Nah, you just didn't comprehend the story metaphors and parallels, the movie was great, you failed. :lol

Yeah I actually agree with that. TDK now suffers "need to be in the right mood" syndrome because its the least "Batmanish" of all three films but I still applaud the effort and end result. I do wish it had a more satisfying climax though.

Batman doesn't appear as much in TDKR but when he's not on screen its usually because we're seeing something with Bane or Selina who are equally engaging IMO. As opposed to TDK where if Batman or the Joker aren't on screen you've got Dent, the mob, Rachel, Gordon, etc., for long periods in between.

Begins is just awesome though and it appears we can all agree on that. The atmosphere and his menacing presence (without the exaggerated voice no less) are just fantastic.

I love the IMAX quality but I think one of the biggest missteps of both TDK and TDKR are the shifting aspect ratios. They are very distracting. It would have been so easy to just film the 35mm sequences in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio like the entire Avengers movie. That way the 35mm and IMAX footage could integrate so much more fluidly.

I'm glad I saw both TDK and TDKR in standard 2.35:1 35mm for my first viewings of each. I wasn't taken out of the movie every other second with "whoa IMAX!" and "not IMAX," "whoa IMAX again!" etc.

Batman Begins actually gets a few extra points for the seamless artistry of its cinematography because of that.
