Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Yeah, and I don't like viewing films as a trilogy anyway. I usually judge and view each film on it's own. I honestly prefer The Fellowship of the Ring to the other two. I love Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. Plus, I'm not one of those marathon guys so there's no way I could possibly watch each film in consecutive order, EVER. So why bother viewing it as such?

When it comes to Batman films, I do the same thing. I'm not thinking of it as one big story, just single films. Begins is fantastic, The Dark Knight is great. If this next one is superb, I'll be thinking, "Oh man, The Dark Knight Rises is ____ing EPIC, what a great film", not "OMG, THE NOLAN TRILOGY IS THE BESTEST".

If we viewed all films with sequels/prequels as one, then damn, Godfather sucks, Jurassic Park sucks, Robocop sucks, Terminator sucks, Alien sucks, Predator sucks, Star Wars sucks, Indiana Jones sucks, Batman sucks, etc. etc.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Well I do like to view intended trilogies as trilogies. I do think Nolan had a general idea of what story he'd like to tell over 3 movies.

I love the LOTR trilogy - to me, story wise, that is the best trilogy i've seen. Godfather comes second in my book - the third movie i enjoyed but it was nowhere near the level of the first two. But overall i'd still consider it better than Star Wars.

Star Wars is third for me (the prequels just to be clear).

Begins and TDK are in my top 10 movies ever. Of course that is my own opinion. If Rises is also in that list, then to me it'll trump LOTR, Godfather and Star Wars.

Regarding Oscars - who seriously thinks Slumdog millionare deserved best picture over TDK? Really? That was a joke.

Regarding Nolan's status. Yeah I agree he is not at the level of the Speilbergs and Coens etc but another 2-3 movies of the calibre he's been putting out, he sure will begin to be accepted in that category.

I reserve the right to pick and choose favorites out of any film series.

There's really only two Star Wars films that I love, Star Wars and Empire. Jedi is entertaining but doesn't feel like the ending I was hoping for. The PT is shiny but that's about all.

Godfather 3 is the weak link in that series. The shame of it is there's some pretty watchable stuff in part 3. Then there's Sofia Copella. And Al Pachino at the end who dies and throws himself at the ground. There's really only 2 Godfather films.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is so much better than anything that followed, including Last Crusade. I only own the first movie.

BTW - Is Morgan Freeman official yet for Rises?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I wanna say that Morgan Freeman was in the clump that was already signed for three like Michael Caine and Christian Bale and I want to say Gary Oldman as well but my memory might be off on that one.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

From a comment on an article I read on the internets:

In Batman: Dark Victory (which follows The Long Halloween, from which The Dark Knight took several cues) Selina Kyle is revealed to likely be the illegitimate daughter of Carmine Falcone. Dark Victory also opens with Batman brooding about how he failed to prevent Harvey Dent turning into Two Face. Couple that with Bane becoming a member of the League of Assassins and R'as Al Ghul's new right hand man in "Bane of the Demon" (they team up to unleash a plague on Gotham - sound familiar?) and Nolan's decisions begin to make more sense in terms of tying up his supposed trilogy.

Very good points and would be really cool to see the whole trilogy tie up neatly somewhat along those lines

I thought Dark Victory was like When In Rome, where they alluded to Selina being Falcone's daughter, but didn't confirm it.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Another actor who I would have loved to see again is Rutger Hauer. Earle seemed like the kind of guy who would eventually return as a villian. With his knowledge of 'special projects' I could see him exposing Bruce's identity.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

IT would be a crying shame if any of Caine / Oldman / Freeman were to not return!

I have no doubt all three will reprise their roles

Well yes they do not confirm it but they make a compelling case for it between Dark Victory and When in Rome.

Either way, it could well serve as a plot point in Rises

Umm....you and I must be twin brothers because everything you said about these movies I agree with :lol

SW and Empire masterpieces / Jedi Good
Raiders masterpiece / 2 and 3 Good but not worth owning for me, 4 is garbage (I only own Raiders as well)
Godfather 3 definately weak link

Also agree with you about Earle

:clap :clap

Yeah, for me it's confirmed "enough", where I consider her his daughter.
