Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I can't really imagine JGL as Hugo Strange though, maybe some other role that we have not considered?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Max cort. While i didnt like the name night scourge, i liked the character.

The only thing I didn't like about the character was that he was instantly turned into a ninja when Hugo gave him the outfit and gear. Sure they showed him working out and being hardcore and the like, but swords and a purple suit doesn't transform someone into Snake Eyes.

Yeah i know what you mean. That did bother me a bit too. I suppose there could be the excuse, just because we didnt see him fighting before doesnt mean he didnt already have that training. Does seem like a bit of a plot hole though. Still a great story though and one of my favs.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Don't know if this has been posted or not, but I don't feel like looking back the last few pages.

TDKR script has been completed and from the inital reviews, it's "phenomenal."

Every time we hear from Chris Nolan's Director of Photography (aka cinematographer) Wally Pfister, it's very good news. Today is no exception. Pfister went on the Kevin and Josh Movie Show (via RopeofSilicon & NolanFans) and mentioned a couple of juicy tidbits about The Dark Knight Rises, which Nolan is to start shooting sometime after the Oscar ceremony, with Anne Hathaway playing Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) and Tom Hardy playing Bane. Pfister was asked how Chris could top The Dark Knight and he responds with very intriguing thoughts. "I asked the same question," he says. "I read the script 2 weeks ago, and he's done it."

Plain and simple — he's done it. It's a phenomenal script. He's still in the process of cutting it back because it's a very long script right now, but it's really phenomenal. And he actually had me go back and wanted me to watch, in IMAX, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight again. When I watched those I had read the script for The Dark Knight Rises and was like, 'dude, it is a perfect trilogy.' I think that was his intent, to work of those two pictures — and they are very different pictures. And it's funny, we all had different opinions about which picture we like better."
"

Yes, this is just pure hype, plain and simple, but it's damn good stuff. We're less than two years out, and I'm already foaming at the mouth. We've heard a lot from Pfister in the past and he's not one to usually get too excited unless it's really necessary, as this is the guy who shot all of those glorious IMAX scenes in The Dark Knight anyway. Speaking of which, how 'bout some IMAX in The Dark Knight Rises? Like maybe... all of it?

"Our goal is to shoot as much in IMAX as we can. We're going to put in on the screen, and put it on the screen big. And I really encourage everyone to see it in IMAX if they can because we're really going for it this time. In terms of the action, we are all scratching our heads right now trying to figure out how we're going to do it; how we're going to do it in the amount of time we're going to do it in. The opening scene of the movie will blow your mind."

Does anyone else remember their experience going in to see I Am Legend on IMAX back in 2008 and seeing that breathtakingly awesome 12-minute opening prologue for The Dark Knight featuring the Joker robbing one of Gotham's banks? Yea, apparently that's got nuthin' on The Dark Knight Rises. That movie's opening, whatever it is, "will blow [our] mind." Pardon my French - but f*%king awesome! Everyone has extremely high expectations for this and all Pfister is doing is raising the bar even more, so let's hope we can still keep our cool. As for Hathaway's casting, Pfister also mentioned that, of course, "she looked phenomenal in the wardrobe," but I wouldn't expect anything less. As always, we'll keep you updated on The Dark Knight Rises.

Joseph Gordon Levitt in Talks For Dark Knight Rises

Joseph Gordon-Levitt had been rumored for a role in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, and now Deadline is confirming it.
Offers the site, "I'm not sure what role he'll play, but I'm told that he will be in the movie when Nolan starts production this spring. Gordon-Levitt will be done shooting the Rian Johnson-directed Looper with Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt by then. Gordon-Levitt has the indie Hesher coming out this spring, as well as Live With It, the Jonathan Levine-directed pic about a 27-year old who tries to overcome a cancer diagnosis.... Nolan keeps his films shrouded in secrecy, though he did lift the veil recently to disclose that Anne Hathaway would play Selina Kyle (Catwoman) and Gordon-Levitt's Inception co-star Tom Hardy will play Bane. What role fits Gordon-Levitt?"

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I just can't see Nolan replacing Ledger, but that is an excellent photoshop. I wouldn't rule The Riddler out just yet either, despite what Nolan has said.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

JGL would also be a great Black Mask. Still pulling for a Black Mask running the crime scene using a secret society of Gotham's elite billionaires. That would provide a great oppurtnity for Wayne to interact with him as well as Batman.

He also has great history with Catwoman.

He's Robin.

Ironically there are a ton of rumors going around that he is being casted as ____ Grayson but instead of Robin that they'd go Nightwing to help "assist" Bruce in this and then moved to Bludhaven (spin off?) so who knows....

Yeah. I'm hoping we get to see some freaks running the show.

Nightwing would kinda be a cool addition on screen.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Well if nothing that had been said before changes two things are already known:

1: Bale said publicly that he'd leave the franchise if they tried to stick him with a Robin and Nolan backed him up by saying that he'd never do that to Bale and that ____ was a baby somewhere in a crib by the time BB was going down. Considering the lapse of time (not counting the continuity errors with Gordon's kids) is current he'd not be much older by TDK and by default TDKR.

2: Nolan has been quoted numerous times saying that he would not recast The Joker and that he'd honor Heath's memory by leaving the character intact within the confines of TDK. Goyer even went on record in saying the original arc to have The Joker continue past TDK was thrown out in it's entirety by Nolan when TDKR was being written.

So that leaves two assumed facts: J G-L will not be either Robin or The Joker. Now the Nightwing rumor kind of leaves a small window but since Nolan was pretty adamant about now Robin at least in 2008 I would imagine not much has changed and that WB isn't pulling an Avi Arad and pretty much giving him a blank slate and a blank check.

My guess is that he'll either play a supporting character like a Max Cort although without Hugo Strange that character's inclusion makes no sense and fitting both Bane and Catwoman into that storyline would be hard enough as it is....he could play a Harvey Bullock kind of character though no problem. Or that he'll cameo as a villain but not be an integral part of the story. I don't see Nolan making him The Riddler for example and not using him. I don't see Nolan casting him as a major villain for another director either.

Bale hinted that he'd return if Nolan did and that if Nolan had another story he said he'd return despite saying he'd only be in for three so Nolan might just be opening a window in case he changes his mind and comes back for a fourth but whatever Nolan does do I don't really see it sticking last his tenure in Gotham

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Ehh..just save JGL for the reboot in a few years and cast him as Riddler or Joker.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I would actually LOVE to see JGL play Grayson/Nightwing.

I have a sneak feeling..

Act 1 - Bane breaks Batman, against our expectations
Act 2 - Wayne is rehabilitating in Asia while JGL fills the void in the meantime, but he isn;'t nearly enough and the time has come that Batman is 'the hero Gotham needs right now'
Act 3 - Batman/Nightwing with potentially semi-help from Catwoman bring Bane and whatever other threat there is down and Gotham realizes Batman is their saviour and 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

nolan said a while ago of robin or any sort and if they were to put nightwing you have to explain his story first which isnt happening in the third film

You don't HAVE to explain his story per-se.

But I see what you're getting at.

Gah, need more info!

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I hope it's not and I don't think it will be Robin. Not because of the character (I dig the Grayson Robin) but because Nolan obviously doesn't want to do it.

And why should he? These films are about the early years of Batman/Bruce Wayne where he's solo. I totally buy the fact that Grayson/Robin is still a kid, somewhere in Gotham.

Shoeing in Robin would be a disservice to the Nolan films, as well as the Robin character. You need that "parents killed by crime, orphan seeking vengeance " dynamic for the character to work so Wayne can relate to him. Just throwing Robin or Nightwing in there without any other tie to Batman/Bruce Wayne is pointless.

1.) He needs to be shown as a kid, around Bruce Wayne's age in Batman Begins.
2.) Wayne needs to take him in.
3.) He needs to be trained/taught similar to the way Bruce was (Bruce Wayne/Alfred, Bruce Wayne/Ras Al Ghul).

I think we'll see Robin done on the big screen again in a great way someday, just not with these Nolan films, and rightfully so.
