Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I don't think there's anything disrespectful to Ledger if someone played the Joker, but hasn't Nolan come right out and said he's not casting a replacement?

As much as I would love to see Joker return, I think it would be a bad move because of all the comparisons. Personally I'd like to see him play Black Mask, but I have a feeling he won't be playing a known character.

It's been pointed out earlier in this thread numerous times Nolan has said flat out no. Even recently in an interview he was asked the question and he seems to still be deeply saddened oven Heath Ledger.

There was also a rumor that unused footage of Ledger would be incorporated into 'Rises', and Nolan was quick to put down that rumor.

Ledger was an actor and would have understood you do what serves the story. But I don't expect Nolan to go there.

Perhaps it is the ultimate compliment to an actor how much we all would love to see more of what Ledger created.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

If he isn't Alberto Falcone, I could see him being Roman Sionis. I would love to see Black Mask as he was when he first appeared in the comics. Someone who is targeting Bruce Wayne without knowing he is Batman.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Yeah the latest rumours are that he is playing Black Mask.

Rumor: Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt Playing 'Black Mask' In The Dark Knight Rises?
Yes, I know...It looks like we will never get a proper confirmation. But now another new rumor has surfaced saying that Joseph Gordon-Levitt might play Roman Sionis, also known as Black Mask. More after the jump!

Remember those spoilers we got that sort of revealed the plot of The Dark Knight Rises? Yeah, well, even though we didn't get a confirmation that Black Mask is indeed in the film, it looks like that something is going on regarding the character. Since we don't know for sure if Joseph Gordon-Levitt is playing Alberto Falcone, or some other character Batman On Film posted something interesting:

"I had heard JGL was definitely playing ONE of the following characters: Black Mask or Alberto Falcone. Honestly, I REALLY thought he was going to be Black Mask and I wasn’t too thrilled about it. I did figured [sic] one of these was a red herring and I’m glad the decoy was [Black Mask] and not Alberto."

Many thanks to Batman-News for the heads up and also they were following that post from BOF, saying that:

"Now this is where things get even crazier. Earlier today after Entertainment Weekly published their article, BOF edited their original post — replacing all references of Black Mask with “Xxxxx Xxxx”. Did BOF make the change to protect their relationship with Warner Bros. in an attempt to not give away Gordon-Levitt’s character? Perhaps.

So, what do you think? Could he play Black Mask? Or maybe there is some other character in the game that we don't know about?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I've been saying all along Sionis makes the most sense as a villain.

Replace the dying mafia with a secret society of Gotham's elite billionairs headed by Roman as the Black Mask and you get a problem for Batman and Bruce who will have to turn them down and risk his identity or accept to get on the inside. Also Roman and Selina have a great history.

That would be a very interesting plotline. Maybe accept, get on the inside, sully the Wayne name, but redeem the Batman?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I still think, if Joker's to come up at any point in this movie, have it be the end like Begins, have something like an explosion at Arkham as his escape with some Joker cards falling like blowing up the judge in TDK and use some of Heath's laughing from TDK to make it like he's laughing as he runs away.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

How about the joker poster as a cameo? Bats passes by his cell in Arkham which is all fogged up and we see a finger trace "Why so serious?"

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I hope he at least makes a cameo if they do the virals again. I also hope he eats a cockroach.

I agree except for the part about saving it for the ending. Bad idea. Especially since this is supposedly the last Batman film from Nolan i.e. that scene would be setting up a sequel that would never happen.

Imagine BB's ending without The Joker in TDK. That would've sucked. :lol

They could do something simple without ever showing Heath like you suggested to just let people know The Joker is still alive and FREE (Maybe the aftermath of an Asylum Escape with the cops mentioning Harley Quinn by her real name as the mastermind of the break).

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Nolan could do a nod to Ledger without contradicting his earlier statements. You could have a breakout at Arkham. Batman finds a Joker card held in an open door by a knife.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

At the end of the movie when Bruce learns something about himself, the ghost of Heath Ledger shows up dressed as the Joker.

He smiles and nods to Bruce. "It was all part of the plan".

Bruce Wayne smiles back and they both have a hearty laugh.
