Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I'll be curious to see how much of a punch in the gut the Avengers is to TDKR. What I mean is the Avengers has set the bar so high will TDKR be able to actually get up to that level? I look forward to see it but I'm now not sure it can reach that level for me.

I think it may just be one of those films that has to be watched in full to appreciate how good (potentially) it is.

Very possible. I am looking forward to TDKR and have really enjoyed the TDK series so I think this one will be fun. However, the bar has been set high by just how good the Avengers is.

Don't worry, there's still over 2 months to go before it's out. Best just enjoying how good The Avengers is now, see that afew times in the cinema and then we'll be ready for TDKR.:)

Very true. I take it one good movie at a time and I'm glad there are plenty coming that will get me to December for The Hobbit.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

The time where Bruce has a beard, has anyone thought that it might be during flashback scenes when he was training in the LoS and not actually be in the context of the film itself but more of a memory scene?

Do you mean a flashback to his training with the LOS in Batman Begins? If so, I'm going to guess it's not that. His beard in the trailer looks more groomed, and he looks like he's leaning on his cane.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

No trailer at my showing of The Avengers. Same thing happened to me with the teaser. :(

I overheard a few people that were looking forward to it. I'm glad they released it online early, would have sucked even more not seeing it. But I still wanted to see it on the big screen.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Saw the trailer in IMAX 3D today before The Avengers. No slow clapping here, I heard people say "What the hell did they do to Batman?" and "This is the same string of movies?" even one that said "I'm confused, is this still supposed to be a comic book movie"

For some reason I doubt that the average movie goer would say these things.

I did wonder something though:

Plunty of speculation about these moments. I personally

think that these are scenes (him training, pushups etc) are him building himself back up to climb out of Bane's prison.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Laud? TDK was an enjoyable movie that's been stuck on a pedestal because of Ledger's death.
It's about as cerebral as a video game.

It seems like a postgrad thesis because of the mega-cheese that constituted previous Bat-flicks.

Superhero flicks should be fun, not like sitting through your grandmother's funeral . . . where the service is spoken by a Cookie Monster with laryngitis.

Nolan is very talented with a crackerjack crew, so TDKR will undoubtedly be of high quality.

But The Avengers just set the bar for this summer, though! :peace

____

It depends on what your criteria are for "setting the bar":

If it's what's the most "fun", then congratulations to Avengers, it may be the most "fun" superhero movie this summer. It is a very good movie...for what it is.

But to say that superhero movies should be fun, is to put them into a box that is not fair to the writers, directors and actors who attempt to transcend such a simple and cliched notion. We can argue all day about whether Nolan was successful (and it's pretty clear you think he wasn't-- "It's about as cerebral as a video game")....but that is not the point here. Why should superhero movies be "fun", why can't they be serious in tone? Do you read superhero comic books? Only the "fun" ones? What about novels/TV/other (non-superhero) films? Why should we restrain the superhero film genre to "fun"? Can't it be something else? Can't it be something more?

And the other option is like sitting through a funeral? Does it really have to be "either-or"? And did you really think TDK was that somber? If so, why would you think "TDKR will undoubtedly be of high quality"? A high quality funeral service?

Sounds like a bunch of morons.

The Dark Knight Rises shouldn't be like The Avengers... and The Avengers shouldn't be like The Dark Knight Rises. But I can enjoy both.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

They were. Then again they paid IMAX prices for The Avengers and I'm sure WB wants them and those like them to pay for TDKR as well. They didn't even stay for the mid-credits scene, let alone the post credits, so they aren't diehard but obviously went to the last one so who knows.
