Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Is Talia al Ghul the villain – or a villain – of “The Dark Knight Rises”?

it would seem so! At least one of the villains anyway…

You’ll recall that Aussie actress Teresa Palmer (“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”) was set to play the Gotham City rogue in the ill-fated “Justice League of America” movie – that George Miller was set to direct before it was canned a month or so out from filming – and today, when asked by Movieweb about the role, Palmer said she’s had her people let Christopher Nolan know that she’d be keen to play the part in “Dark Knight Rises”.

Back Up. What, you say? Yep, it’d seem Ms Palmer just confirmed that Talia al Ghul, the now-estranged daughter of the supervillain Ra’s al Ghul, is a part of the new Batman movie.

“I’ve definitely put the feelers out there with my agents and that would be something I would be really glad to have happen,” Palmer told the site. “I doubt I would be one of the actresses high up on Nolan’s list. I think they are definitely going after woman with a much bigger profile than I,” she added.

“It is the longest shot in history for sure but I’ve put my name out there with my agents and things. So we’ll see who ends up doing that role. My managers made the phone calls but I’m pretty sure that they will end up going with a big name girl.”

Speculation has been rife what villain/s Nolan is planning in the superhero blockbuster with most predicting Catwoman, The Riddler or Talia al Ghul – or a combination of the three – would be clashing with the cowled one.

I'm still not sure that means Talia is in, but her or Selina are who I'm hoping for.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

That's not a confirmation at all.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Wow, hope not. Id hate for the followup to Heath Ledger's Joker to be some cheesy revenge driven tough girl cliche played by the teenager from the Sorcerer's Appretice.

Not only would she be a competly uncompelling character, but she would be way too young to be taken seriously as a villian and be not creepy as a love interest.

There will be no follow up super villian. The focus will be Batman. Not his villians.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Agreed, I think the role of the villain this time around will be more of supporting the Batman story.

Joker was very much his own character and part of the film in TDK, where Ra's was more a background element that was key into the overall plot but he himself was a small part of the movie. I think the villain will be smaller again, and not out of some, we can't live up to Heath's Joker motive, but just that, again, the focus should be back on Bruce/Batman and the development of that character.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Yea, but there has got to be some villian. Ras might not have been near as cool or iconic as The Joker, but he was still effective and stood out.

Little blonde warrior girl avenging her dad is not going to cut it for this series.

No kidding... there is NO WAY I want Ras's daughter in the next one.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I think it would be interesting to see one of Bruce's trusted inner circle turn on him. If someone like Lucious or Gordon thought Batman had crossed a line and needed to be stopped. What if the villain in the next movie found out a few things about Batman's allies and set them all against each other?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I guess Gordon is could to turn against him in some way, and he has done so in the past to some extent in the comic books, when he sees Batman to have overstepped his fine line.

Alfred or Fox would be more unlikely, but then again Fox gave the indication that he had a moral line as well in TDK with the sonar device thing - and that he would step down from his post at Wayne Enterpises if Batman continued to use that device, but that particular episode ended well. SO i guess if Batman goes to some extreme potentially he could find Gordon and Fox unsupportive - Gordon more likely to go out and out against Batman, with Fox just likely to withdraw his support in such a situation rather than actively act against Bruce/Batman.

Alfred... 'Neva'

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I don't want to see any of those guys turn on him.

If Gordon turned on him it would totally diminish the awesome end of TDK.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I don't want to see it either, but it could happen in a feasible way if the story went in that direction. Obviously at the end of it Batman would have to be redeemed in Gordon and everyone else's eyes

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Gordon is going to have to play the role of enemy to Batman, and it would be cool to see him end up confused and conflicted. It would not be cool to see him conclude that Batman is the problem. That's not Gordon.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

The end of the last film put Gordon in the role of hunter. Even if Gordon is playing a role as part of a conspiracy, over time his POV could change.

I always think back to one of my fav Batman TAS episodes "Over the Edge" and how cool something like that would be.

Of course Batman would have to redeem himself, but someone like Gordon at least represents a credible challenge.
