When it comes to film, im almost as much of a fan of Nolan as I am of Batman

The man makes awesome films (for my taste anyway). I was me never much of a Burton fan. 89 Bats was good no doubt, Returns, not so much for me. And I only like 2-3 Burton films other than that

After TDKR I'll probably be about equally excited for whatever Nolans next film is as I will be for the Batman reboot

:goodpost::goodpost:

If we were getting a different Nolan film this summer instead of a Batman film, I'd be just about as excited.

inception sucks bro.

You really think so?

Must have been to confusing for you.

At least people like DiFab understood it and had good points about why they didn't like it.

I'm in this for Batman. Been that way since the beginning. I have no problem saying I didn't know who the hell the director was in Batman Begins. It wasn't until the DVD special features that I started to know more about Nolan.

If it wasn't for Batman these guys wouldn't be successful and couldn't make their little expressive films with their sensibilities and styles. Burton and Nolan. Not picking on them or ripping their work but Batman is bigger than both of them. A character with 73 years of history under their belt will do that.

Completely agree. :goodpost:

Yeah agreed and I have no problem admitting I only found out who Nolan was after Begins

I had however, already seen Memento and Insomnia before Begins (not knowing they were by the same director) and really enjoyed both. Memento far more than Insomnia though

Oh I understood it. It's not rocket science. I'm not putting you down for your opinions either. Just disagreeing. So let's not let it come to saying I'm not intelligent. People are capable of not liking things and still having a grasp on reality.

But for me the top is still spinning.

I guess what I don't like about Inception (if you really want me to explain it) is not the complexity of the plot. A lot of people say "oh the people who didn't like Inception didn't get it." No I got it. The layers of the dreams, you need the kick to bring you back to the previous layer. Yup. I got all that. The movie isn't well paced. It's boring and there's not very much action. The action that does exist is cut badly. I know it's not supposed to be an action film...but if that's the case then why is there some call of duty scenes with them rolling around in the snow? I think I was on the fence about Inception as I was watching it until they reached that part with the snow. That was just awful. That's when I realized the movie was simply too long and drawn out. You can't understand a damn word Ken Wanatabe says. You never care to know if Leo gets back with his creepy children or not. I guess that was sort of the "theme" of inception for me is "why do we care?" None of the characters, NONE of them are fully fleshed out or emotionally developed. I guess because they said he had a life with Mal in the dream we're supposed to feel bad for him? Yes especially since she was such a _____ that she framed him inside his own dream too. I went in with an open mind on the first day for the same reason you did...I liked TDK. I left thinking "well that wasn't batman and lesson learned." What was my lesson? I don't care what the guy makes other than Batman. If a good movie is good, it's just that...a good movie. Regardless of who makes it. Even Michael Bay has made a couple.

So has Tim Burton.

But would you have been as gay for him if he hadn't done Batman? :huh

Of course not

His take on Batman has been the greatest thing I've ever seen on screen, that's where my appreciation for his style comes from. He took my favourite comic book character and did him true justice on film IMO

Then I saw Inception and thought yeah, this guy makes films I can really connect with. Add to that Prestige and Memento which I thoroughly enjoyed

So here we are

As soon as I saw Memento, I paid attention to Nolan. Then I saw Insomnia and was let down but it was still a decent movie, just not Memento level. Then I saw Following and saw that Nolan is truly a master at building puzzles. I was hyped for him tackling Batman like no other. He just seemed a good fit for bringing some complexity to the character not seen before on screen. BB is still my favorite of his films but Memento follows closely. I am surprised some of you haven't seen Following yet. For a film made on weekends while most involved had full time jobs during the week, it shows how crazy talented Nolan is as a film maker. I drank the Kool Aid a long time ago!

I'm a Nolan fan, myself.

Came to know his work through Momento, back in 2002. When I heard he'd done Batman Begins (didn't know until after the movie was released into theaters and out of theaters), I figured it would be good.

I own and love The Prestige and Inception. Storywise, I think Inception is probably his masterpiece. I need to get The Following, liked that one too.

I'll follow his directing career after Batman for sure.

I just wish Nolan tackled more zany villains like Clayface or Mister Freeze; they're both really interesting characters and I think he could have done them justice.

You've done it again. :lol

EDIT:

Just noticed Brian Douglass. Hahahaha

We've seen from the animated series that Mr. Freeze can be done seriously and can be an emotionally gripping sympathetic character. It's weird to think that he just wrote them all off like "UNREALISTIC. NO WAY." I did like what he said about Riddler being a Joker rip off though in that Empire article from the fall.
