You know, I'm a big lover of Sideshow figures and I see the occassional fault or two in a figure, but no fault in any of the figures I own has ever affected me ability to enjoy the figure to the fullest. However, Faramir just got to me, and ya, if I put him high on a shelf and looked at him from accross the room, he'd look fine, but I like to play with my figures in various poses and accessory combinations as well as photgraphing them, and when you get up close and personal with him, it's ground for dissappointment. Mine had eyebrows painted on that looked like they were a makeup job on a drag queen, his eyes weren't painted looking in the same direction, one pupil was on the outer edge of the iris from from centered, the skin tone was very shiny, part of the neck skin tone paint was chipped away, the beard was very dark and glossy, and the skin tone added to the beard to thin it out looks like pink compared to his tan skin tone paint. From a distance that could all blend to hardly noticable, but looking at it in your hands, it just leaves you feeling like a lack of care went into painting this head, and again, I'm judging him by other Sideshow figures, and I've only been collecting ones made in the last year, so in theory, the factories should be the same and the quality should be the same, yet Faramir lefting me thinking "what happend?" Perhaps this glossy beard syndrome he and Aragorn had reflect a particular factory (if Sideshow does have multiple sits overseas) and if so, this particular factory really needs to be scrutinized because it's poorly representing Sideshow.

And Maulfan, at least you have the talent to do something about it and take a brush to him.

He is looking good-in-progress BTW....looking forward to the end result.

I'll wait until have him in-hand--- however some of these pictures are really not making me too anxious to get him.

I hate to say it, but this one figure where I don't think photography can make or break the deal. I didn't photograph him before I took his head apart, and I don't think I'm the best photographer around, but some of you have commented that I have a tendency to show off these figures better than other photos, and I don't even think my style could save this one. Typically, photography comes into play relative to sculpt, shadows aren't there or too much light and what not, so the sculpt gets lost. The sculpt on this figure is pretty good, though on mine at least, his right eyebrow wasn't too sculpted and his right side beard is a bit less defined. Faramir is a case of tragic paint apps, and no camera is going to heal that unless he's shot in super bright or super dark to the point of the photo being useless, and in any case, the photos will be lies, in hand is the truth and it's an ugly truth.

There are far more people with it in hand that say it's okay than those who don't. The close-up flash pics aren't at ALL representative of what the figure looks like.

Some are determined to find as much fault as possible and they aren't likely to be happy about anything.

Funny, I thought it was the other way around. If anyone is actually happy or satisfied with this paint application, then I have yet to read about it in this thread. Heck, even Captain Faramir and Josh have admitted that it's quite disappointing. That alone speaks volumes... ;)

Those close up pics are EXACTLY what I see when I look at my figure in hand. Keep in mind that most everyone does agree that putting the paint apps aside, the figure is fantastic.

I got it yesterday, From the pictures he doesn't look so good but to be honest in hand he looks quite awesome. I was surprised how much better he looked in person.

Mine too, guess I got a decent one... maybe some of these were painted at a different factory or by different/better painters at the same factory...

But it seems most weren't painted well... maybe we got the same painter...

It is a little bit of a let down as I said yesterday. I still like the figure but it's not as good as I had expected it 2 be that's for sure. It's an ok figure.

Here's the good news for those of you who love the trilogy and this character, it only needs a repaint IMO and you'll be very happy...

That's true I suppose. I love LOTR enough that Faramir will fit right into the collection and just be another cog.

I do have to say that mine doesn't have the patchy paint in the beard as is seen on some of the photos. But I will probably be repainting him too, just to lighten the hair and beard.

Exactly, but the reason for the semi uproar is that the aspect that truly defines the character and takes it a step away from just being some action figure, is the part that didn't come out quite right. The outfit is spectacular, I can't wait to finish painting so I can actually soak it all in, I was just so flabbergasted by the head that I put everything down to start painting it.

Just to make my position clear, I still give this figure 8 out of ten stars. 1 point lost for the paint, another for the weak shoulders and boots. Everything else is PERFECT--perfect!

I imagine once Les has repainted it I can give it . . . oh, I'll say 5,578,923 out of 10 stars.

You WILL be in LOTR heaven when that happens...
