True, but he's still a great figure. Now I'll admit I'm biased and have no problems getting a repaint because it's Faramir (I wouldn't do that for just any figure obviously), but it's not such a wretched piece unless you usually stare at your figures from a foot away gazing into his eyes, in the which case I would recommend getting outside for a while--or getting psychiatric help, as the case may be. :lol

He's not all that terrible, it's just that it's my duty as Faramir's loyal follower to get the single best 1/6 represention of Faramir possible, and that means a repaint by the best. Otherwise I'd be more forgiving.

Well I never expect production resemblance, but like I said earlier in this thread, I've come to have a bar that I measure Sideshow figures against based on the figures I get from them, and of over a dozen production figures I own, this was the only one that fell below that bar

Well, you're in the minority there, count your blessings... over 4 years I can't tell you how many SSC prod piece lemons I got, guessing at least 6 ,maybe more, and they were ALL consistent with the rest of the prod run.

Consistency, that's all I ask yet nothing has changed.

I'm with MaulFan in this though, I have no issues at all with Aragorn (who has my favorite 1/6 likeness so far) even though everybody else hates him. It all depends on taste; I haven't received a bad figure, and this one I view as poor, but not terrible. It's all in what you look for and how you see the figure.

Well, I've gotten these figures:

Jedi Luke
Anakin
Darth Vader
Han Solo
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Mace Windu
Qui-Gon Jinn
Rebel Infantry
Rebel Sergeant
Rebel Pathfinder
Yavin Luke
Aragorn
Legolas
Boromir
T-800
T-1000
Sarah Connor

And without getting into shading and color debate on those, I have to say, everyone of them, but for Yavin Luke's eyes and Aragorn's glossy facial hair, has come through with the same quality of paint application, and what through me off with Faramir was not a matter of his beard maybe being darker than film/proto or his hair, but the overall application of the paint just didn't feel like Sideshow to me, poorly painted eyes, glossy skin and beard, very different from what I've gotten with the figures I've detailed above, that's what threw me off with this figure.

Disagree,

Aragorn's paint apps fell short, the eyebrows changed his entire expression, the beard, thick and shiny, wasn't like the proto and it killed it for me and the majority of collectors, that's why he sells for less than retail now over a year later on secondary markets,

I thought Both Legs and Boromir were excellent!

Here, Sorry Bro.. repaint emergency. That's not Consistent.

I give SSC a 2 out of 4 with LOTR, that's not good at all...

That's all a part of taste though; I thought Aragorn was just as good as Legolas and Boromir. But no, Faramir was not great. It's unfortunate that he needs to be repainted, but after all, nothing less than perfection will do for my Faramir.

Oh, and 2,500 posts! Half of which are probably in these LOTR forums.

Ok, so looking at these side by sides, I see no reason why the paint apps could not have been of the same quality as the toyfair piece. Now that's what I expect from Sideshow! It doesn't look overly complex nor simplified - just a good solid paint scheme.

The costume differences I don't think are too far off. There are some differences in color shades, but some of that can be attributed to the different lighting conditions in the two photos. For the most part the costume looks great to me (with a few minor instances where the toyfair piece looks better).

Although I really don't get why the buckle on the quiver was changed from the correct piece, to the exact same buckle on the the sword belt (incorrect). Mistake, or intentional cost cutter? That bothers me almost as much as the paint job because it is a glaring costume mistake and is one that cannot be corrected unlike weathering.

If there's a better quality head let's see it, otherwise mine's getting repainted.

Well even though I have yet to see one pic that makes this figure look half decent I am still excited to be getting him.

I wont be getting Faramir in until the 27th, but I have no doubt this will be one head that is going off for a repaint.

well got my exclusive and i'm pretty underwhelmed. the head almost looks like a ceramic glaze with some crazy, vacant blind-eyes gaze. the outfit looks good sure but what other figure do i have to put it on that looks like faramir...uhhh, none? boots are on par with the head paint apps and look pretty bad which is to say cheap. i was looking very forward to this figure and out of all the ones i have gotten so far (other than the yavin luke) where i have just wanted to know what ss was thinking. along with yavin luke it's another reason not to pre-order based on the prototype or pre-production model...and yah i know it's a prototype pictured most times and subject to change blah, blah, blah...but this looks nothing like the figure i pre-ordered and the paint isn't even as good as the one at sdcc. it's look like it's bene glazed or something. what kind of standard does it set to say yah, it's a great sculpt and figure if i repaint it? i don't want to have to repaint a figure i just bought.

Looks like you too are in the ever growing group wondering what chrisfromsideshow meant when he said...

Hi All! I wanted to take a sec to follow up on some of the paint jobs that have been posted in this monster thread. As some of you know, the extremely poorly painted examples are not consistent with the rest of the edition.

Some here would still like to know what the rest of the edition looks like so they can be sure before they return theirs for a replacement... 30 days... tick tock...

yah i would definitely be interested in finding out if the one i received is indicative of the rest of the pieces being shipped.

You know, I thought I was going to be REALLY disappointed in this figure. Got him out to shoot him tonight, and he's great...with the exception of that damn paint. The head sculpt is actually very good, but it's hard to make it out through the poor paint.

Still, it's going to get a better overall than I had expected because of the outfit and accessories...review will be up Sunday night.

If you aren't satisfied, then return him for an exchange. If you aren't happy with the replacement then it might be that there is not enough difference in the run to please you.

Mine is a bit better than I'm seeing - as more people post pics we'll see how much variety there is between them.

Thanks for coming here Chris and teasing us with a LotR tidbit!

Today I received the exclusive version. The paint ops on the face is terrible. The mustache is painted on at a slant and does not cover the mustache its self. Secondly, there is a hole burnt into the cloak. Does any one else have the same type of problem? I guess the hole might be intentional.
I can't believe how much of a difference in the quality control between figures. You never know what you will get.SideShows quality is very unpredictable.

Brent-

The hole in the cloak is for the quiver; the straps go through the hole in the cloak so he can wear it accurately, over the cloak, as in the movie.

My Faramir is shipped.

Mine's on the way....

Can someone please post of shot of how the quiver strap is positioned through the hole in the cloak?

And...anybody heard from Chris?

Oh, the disappointment...

I'm not one to hate on Sideshow. I never commented on the 'bobble-headedness,' the limited articulation Buck bodies or any other minor quibbles, because I always thought the sculpts and the accessories and the costumes made up for them. I like all my SS figures, even the ones that are lacking somehow, because they're the best representations of the character(s) to date (SW, LOTR) or the best we'll ever have (Buffy/Angel).

But Faramir... seriously, Sideshow, what is going on? I could deal with the paint job on the hair. The beard is a bit sloppy. Even the shiny gloss on the skin tone is bearable. But those damn eyes... it looks like he has a lazy eye and Glaucoma. And he's been smoking grass to try and be rid of both.

The outfit's great but the boots are REALLY bad. The front rigging strap on my scabbard broke, and his cloak looks great but it's BROWN?! Christ on a moped, how long have we waited for this figure, and they drop the ball this bad?

If the LOTR line is continuing and keeps up this lack of quality, I'm jumping ship.

And the comments from the SS rep saying the paintjobs aren't all bad? Sounds like a company line to me.

I'm just venting. I still have my preorders (though few remain in general) but I'm hoping this isn't a new trend with the company I've grown to love in the past year.
