I've LONG given up on mass produced paint apps. I would rather Sideshow put the money towards a body at least as good as Hot Toys and better tailoring.

Excellent work MaulFan. It's amazing how just changing the hair color and toning down the beard and losing the shine really brings out how good looking this sculpt is. Bravo!

Now....you wanna send him up north for some scenic photography? :lol

(Just kidding....your photo skills are always more than ample at showing these at their best!)

hey how do u put this quiver on? i have it thru the hole and around the chest, over the shoulder, but i can't see where to connect the end of the strap. there's a hole at the end of the strap so i'm guessing it pushes onto a peg or something on the plastic part of the quiver but the only pegs i see already have straps on'em and dont have room for another.

Hey DekDave, who kicked your puppy?

Do you even own a Faramir?

After seeing those pics of the horrific factory paints I'm glad that I don't. Makes Yavin Luke look like a masterpiece and I didn't think it could get any worse than that.

And Maulfan's repaint is exactly how he should have been done in the first place. Why couldn't they at least get the hair color and beard right?

I wonder how many angry Freaks are going to corner the SSC VIP's at ComiCon regarding these atrocious paint issues? It's pretty obvious now that we are not going to continue to accept that kind of quality from them any longer. They have always been deceptive with their pre-order prototypes but the difference here has never been more blatantly obvious. The product shown and the product received are completely different items markedly contrasted in terms of quality and materials used on the costuming and that is called Bait & Switch, pure and simple. Man, the quality this year has really taken a collosal nose-dive. What the hell is going on over there? I'd return my Faramir with a Toy Biz figure switched out instead and see if they even notice a difference. Judging from their (lack of) quality control, they wouldn't.

He's right! The paint issues are a big deal and same with the body.I dont care what most of you say, regardless of cost of a figure,Sideshow has to compete against Hot Toys and Medicom. If they want to continue to survive in the 1/6 world they need to get better.

Great work Maulfan.... and proof that the sculpt is there and just needs to be brought out. :rock

We all know the importance of paint. How many great sculpts have been marred by less than fantastic paint apps? Loads....

Yeah, I still get commissions from these debacles... but I wish I didn't. If it was a great factory paintjob and someone just wanted me to take it that extra mile, that I am happy to do and don't worry about my SSF brothers who won't have that head repainted.

But in a situation such as this, everyone gets one that is not painted right... and only a few will be able to toss another 30 or so bucks into this figure to get the paintjob they want. And that's what makes the monkey cry...:monkey2

I just hope SSC is able to find a way to rectify this in the future, so collectors aren't so wary to press that purchase button on pre-order day. And with a line like LOTR, where the clothing is so top notch... I know they can find a way to get the paint up to snuff. Whatever needs to be done, even if it costs an extra 10 or 20 bucks.... Anything to get this right.

Dittos on MF's paintup and everything else, Josh. I've been saying this all along, consistency, please...

Thanks everyone! I've posted a detailed list of paint brand, colors and coats over in my customs thread if anyone is looking for that information.

Great job Maulfan.

I only just looked in here....what an angry thread! But, I see why. These factory headpaints are not up to spec. No way.

I am only able to do one repaint, for none other than Cap, so you'll see what I try soon enough, but yeah, I agree with all here. If the final results were a closer match to the previewed teaser figures, then there'd be a whole lot less belly aching going on.
Folks get expectations from such images. It's bad form to let them down. Best to up the standards and to try and to keep the happy faces on the customers. :D

Best of luck on these everyone!

I have one coming from Oluf soon... but not yet. I wasn't going to get one, but saw this thread and I really want to have one to redeem, so to speak. :lol

So expect one soon. I am working on Boromir too, as we speak. So expect news on that front as well. I haven't been doing much with my LOTR figures for a while....

Well, I finally took a really hard look at my Faramir. He's not as shiny as the ones shown, although a bit dewy. I can live with it. I can even live with the fact that the beard on one side of his face is disporportionately heavier (more like a full beard rather than light stubbly. What I don't think I can look on favorably, however, is that a single, strong stroke (and not really within the defined, raised stubble) that seems to be passing for a mustache. That's the right hand side. The left hand side seems to be plagued with pox (dotted in two colors). :(
