He desperately needs a producer to tell him - "that's just dumb."

Didn't his usual producer at Touchstone tell him just that about Lady and the Water and he pitched a hissy fit and ended up making the film with Warner Bros?

Some people can write, some can direct, some can produce, and some can do all three. Some are good enough that they can even do all three and win an Oscar in all three areas for the same film.

I guess the academy decided to break the trend this year and not bestow that honor on a fat dude with a beard.

I just got dragged to see this by my Wife and Mother in Law... I have been a M Night fan, loved all of the films so far... But this movie...

Well, there is no way to sugar coat it at all. It's a mess. The acting was horrible, save for Leguizamo. The story and the way it was played out was laughable and not in the least way intense enough to really hammer home it's (obviously pro-environment) message home.

The R rating was wasted, hardly any blood at all. The neck wound and the gunshot wounds were poorly handled and unrealistic. And there were some major instances of a drop in logic of the writing. To ask the audience to take the huge leap required to fear what is causing this is one thing, but to have us believe that somehow the wind is being wrangled and controlled by them as well?? That is severely insane and makes no sense whatsoever.

In the end I left the theater shaking my head and laughing. I knew what I was going in to, I tried to take it seriously and see if I could enjoy the film. It failed to captivate me or anyone in the audience, it failed to carry any weight or suspense... It was, without a doubt, one of the WORST films I think I have ever actually seen.

Yeah, I heard the script just wasn't ready, needed a few more drafts to develop the Character dynamics...

It wasn't a large budget at all, I think 60, should still make a profit WW...

If the studios keep turning him down when he brings them a new project, he might change his mind if he wants to pay the bills. He was forced to go to Warner with Lady in the Water when his old friends at Touchstone didn't want anything to do with it. And then he had to go to Fox to get The Happening released.

He's on a roll--each film he makes is better than the next.

Right, but he needs to start listening.

Kubrick never wrote an original screenplay - and never did an adaptation by himself.

As for Spielberg writing CE3K - read Julia Phillips - You'll Never Eat Lunch in this Town Again. It shows how its amazing that a decent film ever got made and how many of Spielberg's friends had input into that script.

did any of you guys ever catch that movie he made of his supposedly own life ?.
It was actually quite entertaining , they tried to make out he grew up in a house exactly the same as the one in signs. He went through ice as a kid , was under for 6 minutes and survived so then could see ghosts. :lol

Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon i know for sure he adapted by himself, others i'm unsure. Plus he did an original screenplay together with Arthur C Clarke, the screenplay for 2001 was created by Clarke and Kubrick befor the book was created by Clarke.

Still he wrote it even if there was input.

If i were a filmmaker i would write, produce and direct.

Anyway it's not really important.

You have to applaud someone that can do it on their own, but it does seem that too often you don't get the necessary reality checks that help balance out one persons vision... with what will be a better overall movie.

I think this was a movie with a lot of potential, but it just played out in such a meandering way that all life was sucked out of it.
