That's interesting, when I saw it in IMAX 3D the glasses were different and I assume they were active shutter glasses since the staff were eager to get them returned when the movie was over whereas when I saw it in 48fps, they were the standard glasses which come sealed in a bag and they don't really care if you return/recycle them. Either way, I thought the 48fps was great?

The IMAX I went to had regular 3D glasses but they took them back from you at the end of the movie (to wash them or something). If they were shutter glasses they would be thicker and heavier than the regular glasses.
 
How can you tell if the glasses they give you in a theater are standard or active shutter? Is it obvious? I mean the home theater ones are obvious because there's a charging port. lol

It should be obvious, there would be enough room somewhere for the electronics and battery.

Also, fun fact, shutter glasses have a risk of seizures! (blinking rapidly in your face)
