As cool as Khev's idea is I prefer that not to happen. It's an important event that he kills him with the black arrow.
Did he actually call those big metal arrows, Black Arrows?

Did/Does Bard lose family to Smaug?
Would add some weight to him being the person who takes out the beast.

Balin I believed mentioned Black Arrow too rehashing the story of how Bards grandfather Girion fought that day....I think...Gonna see this again next week to reaffirm
My question to you gentlemen is, If you had to choose between 48 FPS or the regular 24, Which one would you rather choose?
And, not having to do with money or anything (I know those are more expensive)
But if it was all up to your choosing, which one would you prefer?
HUGE potential spoiler for Smaug's fate in the next movie:
I think that PJ just might be sneaky enough to have Bard load that big crossbow thing with the "black arrow," fire it at Smaug, and miss. All hope will appear to be lost until out of desperation he picks up his regular bow and shoots one of his own arrows into Smaug's heart just like the book.
As for Smaug..
deciding to go destroy lake town and not finish off the dwarves. Bilbo pleading with Smaug not to go there made smaug want to destroy Lake-Town even more. He wanted revenge after the Golden pool. It really isn't that far-fetched.
I can't remembr all of them, but Godzilla, Interstellar and Edge of Tomorrow stick out.
Edit - Oh yeah, and ASM 2, which was preceded by a short intro by Emma Stone letting you know the trailer you were about to watch was of Spiderman, this intro illicited much unintended laughter in he theater.
just watched it, and all I can see is
anyway, the CGI in this movie not so smooth, eh? I mean, it's like bad-edited-CGI
The last person who dared say anything about the CGI in The Hobbit films was banned. He was also a veteran member here.just watched it, and all I can see is

So, be careful.

Of course it wasn't. The real reason he was banned is because a mod or two didn't like him. Despite the fact that he was only in the thread to discuss the film. That's not why he was banned and I believe folks were told it was time to move on from the discussion.

But whatevs
I understand why they made the Black Arrow a big iron projectile. When your dragon is the size of a 747, it just seems more plausible that you'd need something more substantial than a conventional longbow and arrow. I don't think Tolkien gives Smaug's exact dimensions, but I'm guessing the movie has probably up-sized him somewhat.
That said, I really like Khev's idea of firing the Black Arrow and missing (or maybe knocking away another scale) and then having to bring him down with a conventional arrow(s). That could make for a very cool sequence.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if either Legolas or Tauriel killed Smaug. I fully expect it to be Bard with his Black Arrow but all I'm saying is it wouldn't surprise me.
