Scenes like Sauron toying with Gandalf and seeing the Ring's affect on Bilbo put DOS easily over AUJ for me.

I liked DoS way more as a film as well; are the people that liked Journey better because DoS seems to get way off track with the book or do you just enjoy the film itself more?

Round 3 was last night for me.

Nice! I will get at least one more viewing in before my Christmas break is over.

I was thinking about the rings effect on Bilbo today. I like this addition and it makes sense he would feel some effect of it just like Frodo did. Heck he's using it way more than Frodo did so in some ways he should feel things sooner.

I'm very torn to be honest. I very much have enjoyed DOS and most of the changes don't bother me but I do love DOS because it does bring plenty of the book with it.

I felt like AUJ took it's time way more and tried to actually tell a story that mattered about something. DOS is great but it feels far more like a straight action movie, which is I guess what people wanted. I'm one of the few that actually LIKED the slow opening of AUJ in The Shire with the dwarves. DOS is all like "Let's go son!" and I'm all like:

I felt things mattered more in DOS. there was a real sense of urgency right from the opening and since this is the middle part of a story it should be the rising action to the Climax of act 3(TABA)

Yes, that was a nice touch. The only thing that makes me think is in FoTR when Bilbo puts it on at his party It didn't seem like anything was going on in the "Void" where as Frodo saw Sauron each time he put it on in the same time period.

Hadn't thought about that. Just one of those things I guess. :lol

The book was much more subtle about the Sauron's ability to see the ringwearer. Jackson took some sizeable creative license there in LOTR, but it was one of those times that added to the story imo. You could find some reasoning for cinematic continuity; it may have depended on the wearer's awareness of what the ring actually was. Frodo was always fully aware of the ring and it's true significance. Sauron might have been magically compelled to drop the pretense.

I assumed the power of Sauron at the time made the difference in intensity while being used, but the new movies kind of blow that idea out.

Is it diferentitated between the Hobbit and LotR series in print?

I liked it all and I didn't feel that AUJ was slow like a lot of people because I understood why it was that way. I feel both movies are great and the last one will be the best of the lot.

Richard Armitage has said that PJ is very interested in visiting Middle Earth again, so maybe something is up?

He also said that he and PJ have discussed remaking Metropolis! :yess:

Also what I have always thought about is Bilbo brought the ring close to Sauron. Sauron I bet felt it and became stronger for it. Bilbo wore that ring a lot and even maybe for days before taking it especially in the Elven tunnels . In the book he spent weeks I believe trying to figure out how to rescue the Dwarves. Sauron no doubt in my mind would have felt the rings presence just being in Dol Guldur a little further south than the elf kingdom. Saruman I bet felt it too and decided at that moment to drive Sauron out of Dol Guldur. Just my theory
