Saw it last night at an advanced screening. Loved it. Loved the elves, LOVED the dragon, thankfully Smaug is in it for more than just 5 minutes. Probably about 30 minutes.

And how they ended it.......loved it.

Can't wait till next year.

Oh and ps. fat dwarf in a barrel. Just remember that. hahahahahahahahahahah

Same. Thought it was better than the first (hobbit). I'll see it again, when it hits BR, the extended version.

Edit: which was my opposite with LotR; were I thought fotr was better than tt.

Is it sad I'm rooting for the Dragon?

And I'm pretty sure he'll lose...

(no I haven't read the books nor have I seen the first Hobbit in it's entirety)

what the hell... this pisses me off

Well, that's a shame. I was looking forward to seeing him.

Can't say that surprises me though. I really want to know what was going through Jackson's head with this CGI stuff. He didn't think his practical effects in LOTR were good? Those Uruk-Hai, Moria Orcs, regular orcs, Goblins, etc. were fantastic.

that really really pisses the hell out of me... I specially hate the "This sucks because it is just a Guy in a suit" Argument. These creatures are bipedal with two arms, OF COURSE they are going to be a guy in a suit....

that argument drives me crazy. What's so wrong about a guy in a suit? Specially when CGI creatures still look so fake most of the time. What is So bad about having a guy in a suit playing a monster?

Same bashing that Alien and Predator get from stupid people sometimes. "Oh it's a guy in a suit so it looks dumb" :slap

The main problem with "Guys in the suits" today, and I think one of the main reasons Jackon relies on CGI so much this time, is that 48fps and digital cameras make even best make up and rubber suits look cumbersome and fake. Some filmmaker commented on this before, that today even the best prostethic art rarely lives up to the scrutiny enforced by the newst HD filming techniques. Plus a guy in a suit, doesnt have the same vitality of movement that a director could squeeze out of a digital model.

I agree that there's definatley too much CGI and green screen in this trilogy. But when it comes to orc characters - I havent yet seen Bolg - but I was perfectly fine with Azog. He looked realistic enough, but most importantly the actor performance showed through.
