movie wasn't terrible...had its Fun moments...too bad we didn't get more of the last 20 mins of movie

Tonto also had alot of "Jack Sparrow" moments

I'll see this movie just not at the movies. It just feels like POTC on land. I'll enjoy it once I see it, I just won't love it.

I plan on going to see this probably on Sunday. I love how the media is calling it a bust after one day. Most people are working up to the holiday and not doing much before hand.

Just got back its a lot of fun this is the second time I almost let the critics sway me from watching a movie the first being man of steel sometimes you just have to trust your gut

The final one-sheet is a pretty good example of why most movie one-sheets suck today. Seriously, this should be the "poster boy" (heh) specimen of how NOT to do a one-sheet:

Good god, everything about that is terrible.

Going to need eye bleach after looking at that.
This what you get when you put a computer with photoshop on it in a room full of monkeys and let them go at it with input from the stars agents jockeying for position.
No artistic merit what so ever.

But if you make a good movie, people will come, regardless of the genre.

Yes but not in the same way. Genre has a lot to do with stuff nowadays even more than the old days. The western especially is disliked by many especially youth. Not enough action or special effects, who knows. A good movie alone doesn't mean it will make money. Some will come yes but it just doesn't mean box office numbers. A profitable Western means today getting a not so expensive film out there. You gotta admire Disney for taking their chances but this will fail in the US. Maybe worldwide it might do better, but I don't know. The western has a huge place in my heart and a bit of me has been saddened by its demise. My youth was so full of Westerns both on film and tv

Django while a western and a good one at that was to me a crazy western and sure as hell was different. If that is what it takes for a western to make good money then it is still somewhat of a tragedy to me because the traditional slower paced western would be endangered(it is now IMHO)

I don't like Westerns because most of them just don't work for me. I don't know why. Hard to pin point.

That being said, if your film has a good story to tell (Tombstone) ill watch it. It's about the story, and the characters as well.

Tombstone was good but I preferred Costner's Wyatt Earp film myself. Agreed some will come like your self but it just doesn't mean it'll make money and many studios pretty much disregard the western. You say you dislike most westerns, have you seen some of the older ones by John Ford and Peckinpah for example?

And the largest character on the poster is Helena Bonham Carter. Seriously??? This looks like something TheOnion would put together as a joke.

:exactly::rotfl

I mean, I like HBC, but there's a reason she's not starring in movies. Yes, the state of movie posters is sad indeed. Just the amount of bad Photoshop that happens in them is just mind blowing. As an art director myself, I'd be close to firing people for some of the stuff that goes on. The lack of any discernable point of interest, clashing visuals.... UGH!

Seeing this tonight. Going in with zero expectations so hopefully I like it
I'm going in with completely low expectations. Much safer that way. :lol

That's what I'm going to do. Might go tonight. We'll see.

Another thing about the western myth. As a period piece taking place for the most part 19th century it fails nowadays at the box office but make the western into a futuristic/ apocalyptic/ sci Fi flick it has a better chance at success. Many films made have a western quality about them

You have to force me to watch a western film. Like I said, I don't know exactly why I don't like them, but I just...really don't.

I like The Quick and The Dead though. It's like, Evil Dead 2: The Western. I wanted to see this because of Verbinski, and because he knocked Rango out of the park. But the movie sounds awful, so I'm gong to pass.

Q&D another western that was good but also sure as hell different

Western is one of my favorite genre of films. It is a shame that we get a good one only now and then. We have had a few over the last 10 years...

Appaloosa, Open Range and True Grit come to mind.

3:10 to Yuma was watchable but a little too "Hollywood" for me.

I also enjoyed Django very much even though it wasn't your traditional western. I want to see Lone Ranger. I really hope it does well so it doesn't hurt the western genre since we don't get many anyway.
