The Lone Ranger movie

Movie was pretty average. I'd say about 30 mins too long and took too long in Reid's getting into being The Lone Ranger.

That's my whole problem with it. It was like they almost tried to ease him into it, and then he just regressed, and then, he didn't come into his own until the film was almost over. It just saddens me that we probably won't get to see more of the Ranger that we saw at the end, due to poor box office performance. However, I'm going to cling onto a little bit of hope and say that I'll wait until we're past opening day.

What did your dad think of the movie?

He thought it was average. He loved Depp but thought Hammer sucked. He like me felt like it was 30 mins too long. He'd go see a sequel if its more like the last 15-20 mins.

Hammer's treated in this film the same way Routh was treated in Superman Returns. A lot of potential, but he didn't have enough good material to shine.

Give him what we saw in the last 15-20 mins and he's probably ok.

A shame. He's a good actor and would be great in the role in a proper Lone Ranger film.

He really is, and, like Josh said, the last 15-20 minutes are great. It ended on a high note, but seeing the giant XD theater I was sitting in filled with only myself, my cousin, and a few others kind of broke my heart. The few people that I did see were baby boomers and an older couple, and it makes me think that, while it's awesome to see stuff like Superman get a great response, it's really sad to see some of your favorite characters be forgotten. The original television series and everything that came before it were way before my time, but my grandpa got me hooked on all sorts of westerns and comic books, and, like Jonah Hex, The Lone Ranger was sort of "the bridge" between both worlds.

Dad and I did AMC Fork and Screen tonight. It was a 75 seat theater since that is only 18 and over. If I'd say there was about 30-35 people there for a 7 PM showing.

Yeah, we went to a 7 PM showing, as well. Part of me wonders if, perhaps, it's just people being uninformed. Not having to go out at midnight on the day before it officially opens is still kind of a new concept to me, anyways.:lol

I've noticed they've been doing that this summer. No sure how new it is but it's new to me them doing this on a regular basis. I'm used to midnight being the opening early.

I will say I do like it though. More jerks seem to be coming to midnight releases so I can go to these and not deal with that crap. If not I just wait for that Saturday and go see it around 1 and get the same effect.

Yeah, I definitely like the 7 PM shows better; much more mellow. If only they'd have done these when The Avengers came out; it'd have been so much more low key (sorry, I had to).:lol

Many folks are not fans of westerns nowadays unfortunately. Disney took a chance filming this. I think it will bomb just because it's a western. Too much competition will kill it. Just Despicable me and Pacific Rim alone will take much of the box office away even with Depp and POTC makers. The western sadly and tragically is very unfortunately dead especially with young under 30 filmgoers

Even the Pirate films were dead. Disney took a gamble with POTC and did well because of the ghostly stories and interesting characters involved. I did not know about the story when I saw it in theaters and was genuinely shocked at how great it was and was so hoping that Lone Ranger would have those same elements. It did to some degree but not enough I think. I still enjoyed the film but a big part of that enjoyment for me is that I love westerns

It will bomb because it's not very good. If Disney took another approach, they could have revitalized the genre for a new generation.

I love Westerns. But nothing in this films trailers looks like Tombstone, Unforgiven, True Grit, The Dollars Trilogy, or even Django Unchained. I would gladly pay to see a Lone Ranger movie taken seriously. This doesn't look like it does that.
