Yeah, people just like digitally animated movies.

LONE RANGER is a highly problematic film, but it's at least better than the last 2-3 PIRATES movies. But people still flock to those pieces of crap, and we're getting at least 2 more of those. Ugh.

True. But they seem wholly reluctant to change the formula. If anything, they're just getting weirder and more convoluted. I'd like to see them return to the more pure swashbuckling of the first movie, but I don't see that happening.

maybe they'l get better- as you said where do you go after rock bottom?

they might not have a choice-- JD needs a big hit after DS and probably LR....the odd storylines might not be so opened-armed embraced by audiences any longer

OST is better than 2 and 3 for me if for no other reason they had the ability to show restraint in CGI and from going full retard with Jack's abilities. Something most hollywood directors can't do in sequels for whatever reason. It's the same kinda thing that ruined Indy.

You have a story arc where you can believably bring back Barbossa from the dead using magic, fine. Curses make them zombies, fine. Death made em Sea Urchin Ghosts, fine. A normal human Jack can swordfight on the top mast of a ship thats like 3 inches wide, soaking wet, being poured rain on, and sucked into a maelstrom is completely retarded. Running around on that wheel, etc theres way too much of that in 2 and 3 which is why for me, they are crap. They destory the believablity of Jack himself. 4 may not have had the cinematography of 2 and 3 but they didn't **** up Jack's character either which is fairly impressive and didn't get sucked into trying to up the action anti to the point of making it completely impossible.

All 4 needed was less or no Penelope and that time focused on Blackbeard instead. McShane was criminaly underused. Penelope was pregnant, alot of time her sister stood in, and Depps worked with her literally a bajillion times and when he's worked with the same actor that many times it's always, always stale. Helena, Penelope, Tim Burton, even the guy that plays Gibbs. He's not acting in Dark Shadows or Lone Ranger, he's doing his Jack Sparrow, which in reality is just his Hunter S. Thompson, I mean just watch the hand movements.

I couldn't agree more with the statement about Mcshane. My first thought when I heard that bit of casting news was "Hell yes! This has potential!" After I'd seen the film, all I could think was "DIS-A-PPOINTED!" I don't know; perhaps I was just expecting too much after watching him play one of the greatest, most compelling antagonists on modern television.

As for The Ranger, I'm not surprised, but it still hurts. I'll see it one more time and make sure to enjoy those last 20 minutes that much more.

Saw it with my wife and daughters. I enjoyed it for what it was. A good summer movie. Nothing spectacular but not bad either. Grew up a Lone Ranger fan and heard the same critcisms of the 80's Legend of the Lone Ranger. No one will ever top Clayton as The Lone Ranger but it is fun to see LR in some form.

The Lone Ranger does. And always has. Except for now, because apparently modern audiences are too lame to adapt their sensibilities. These movies have to be so cookie-cutter now, with everything spelled out. And of course it just HAD to be an origin story, wasting 2 hours of screen time. F that. Have fun. Let the Lone Ranger be the Lone Ranger.

****ing A. Embrace the cheese.

Couldn't agree more.

There may have been a movie where "Hiyo Silver, Away" said in earnest would work, but that's not the movie they made. For better or worse, in this movie it would have been very out of place.

Then don't say it at all. Using it as a silly joke and pissing on the source material was about the worst possible option.

Well, I laughed. Then again, I don't care about the source material.

Like I said, I wouldn't have been so disappointed with it, had two hours of the movie *actually* respected the character, instead of turning him into a buffoon.
