I don't know there is just something about the show that does not fully grab me. It just feels too much like an older TV show. Much of that has to do with the music. Ive said that before but the music is a big reason for that TV feel.
It feels a lot like '80s TV a lot of the time, but I've always felt that was intentional.
I found my self LOLing at the Mando / Tuskan raider dialogue.. Was that supposed to be kind of stupid / funny
The galaxy's denizens do need to communicate with each other, but Mando honking and grunting (or Mechanic Lady squeaking and grunting at Frog Lady) stretch believability. I mean Han and Chewie I accepted because I was a child and it stuck, but it's hard to deal with this stuff as an adult.
... I would have preferred some alien races requiring sign language or mechanical/computerized translators.
The Marshal telling his story while riding on Anakin's Pod racer parts made me roll my eyes.. I hate when movies and shows act like talking from vehicle to vehicle is just like sitting at a table.
Very jarring. Pulled me out of it instantly. Also didn't feel like they were synching the implied speed with hair, clothing, face etc.
While I do not mind this.. People that love the show should not complain about any fan service in the ST / PT / or spin offs.. I mean R5-D4, Gamorrean Guards, Anakin's Pod racer engine.. I dont mind fan service.. It always makes me smile for the most part so I never understand why people complain about it. Well except for the Pando Baba and Cornelius Evazn in RO... Ugh I hated that one.
The R1 cameo didn't bother me as much as the near-constant 'small galaxy', 'all roads lead to Tatooine' vibe of this show. To be honest it doesn't kill the enjoyment for me but I'd prefer it wasn't there.
I cant help but think of The Holiday special and Bea Arthur every time Mando meets up with that old lady on Tatooine.. She just feels so out of place.
Freaking hate that character. Like every cheap NPC from every lame game I've ever seen. Sucks the cool out of the show instantly.
I think if I was a bigger fan of Mando as a character it would help. Not ever seeing his face does not help. Hard to warm up to him as a character. He's OK but I would think after 9 episodes I would be more invested.
The show is *very* entertaining, but I feel it's uneven and Mando's character development is on par with cartoons for the most part.
Its an easy enough watch as I love the SW Universe. I just don't get the huge amounts of love that it gets.
I love it but in order to do so I keep reminding myself they're still aiming at kids.
[...]I can't put my finger on it, but much of the dialogue for secondary characters feels very lazily written and too contemporary, or inorganic to this film world. Not that the PT dialogue was better, it wasn't, it was atrocious, but it fit more.
Bad dialogue is a Star Wars tradition since 1977, but it needs to be bad in a specific way.
... I think you may be spot on about 'too contemporary'.
The Child was a real ******* in this episode. Murdering all those eggs of a nearly extinct species. Was that supposed to be cute?
Maybe he really is a Dark side user....and Mando's final test is going to be putting him down once and for all.
Nah, I think they're just leaning into the child being ... well ... a *child* and extremely troublesome. He's also growing up in a very unstructured and generally violent environment and his origins are murky, so ..
[...] It was a little weird to hear Mando call her a frog though. I believe that may be the first utterance of an Earth animal's name in SW.
THAT'S THEIR WORD YOU INSENSITIVE CLOD!! But seriously, yeah...closest thing we heard was Womp *rats* but I feel using 'frog' was a very bad call.
He's a baby, he has no moral compass, it's made clear that Mando isn't the best person to be caring for him, which is why he is trying to reunite him with his own kind.[...]
Yep, kids are ****s.
[...] The only thing that made me roll my eyes was Filoni cameoing *again* as an X-Wing pilot. Okay do it once as a fun little wish fulfillment Easter Egg. But gratuitously insert yourself into multiple scenes in multiple sectors? What are the odds that Mando would run into the same pilot in back to back encounters in different parts of the galaxy. Come on dude, you had your fun once now don't become the next M. Night Shyamalan.[...]
.
I'd buy it if he could act or had more of a pilot vibe. I don't like where Filoni takes Star Wars in general, though, so I may be biased.
What a waste of an episode. Good to know it is skippable on repeat viewings of the series. A bad example of filler. Nothing of importance to further the narrative during the entire episode. Was surprised to see Favreau was the writer as the credits rolled.
Game of Thrones (before the final season) this ain't.

Quick question about the episode that i may have missed but why did the xwings immediately go into attack mode after he sent his transmission to them- he is not imperial so why the hostility??
I guess one of them ran his plates, switched to a closed channel to suggest they get ready to light him up. S-foils in attack position is a dead giveaway so they almost didn't need to bother trying to be private about it.
Republic cops are ****s. After all was said and done they left him on that planet to freeze. Make up your minds, guys.
