I enjoyed the first 2 episodes, and like others have said the effects and visuals have been fantastic. However i am bit disappointed that they are not following the main story arc and his mission to find baby yodas kind- the first started off ok, he was actually looking for baby yoda?s people but that was only the first 5 minutes then he got side tracked with the boba fet armor. The 2nd episode is more of the same another filler episode that did nothing to further the main plot. They better get the story moving along or else its going to feel rushed. Its like they forgot they only have 8 40 min episodes to work with and they already wasted 2 of them

It's as Star Wars as Star Wars has been since 1983 :dunno

No its not that..

Its the sound (Music is usually overly quiet) the overall look..

NBC, CBS, and ABC all had very distinct looks for their networks.. Still do from what I can tell. Same with sound..

This show has that same feel as an ABC show.

It lacks the cinematic feel of the movies.. So in that respect I really disagree with the its as Star Wars has been since 1983.

I dont know how to else to explain it.. its there.

It feels and looks like old school star wars to me but it is a tv series not a movie so i am not so sure what your getting at. It does however get very close to the quality and feel of a cinematic experience more so then any other tv show. Youd be hard pressed to find another one with the visuals and effects of this one. The show obviously has a huge budget the likes of which only the snyder cut of justice league can compete with.

I can understand people feeling this way but saying they only have 8 episodes to tell the main story makes it sound like this is a limited series that's going to end this year. As popular as BY has become even if Mando does reunite him with his kind (i.e., Jedi) by season's end I doubt that their joint story ends there.

Oh i agree baby yoda aint going anywhere-its like his son, mando loves him- but what made season 1 so good, atleast for me was the over arching story it was not just a bunch of disjointed episodes. I would prefer 2-3 episode mini arcs over these one offs

I have always felt that this show had an ABC network feel to it. There are times that it just has a look / sound / feel, I dont know what, ABC TV feel. I mean Im talking straight up Heart to Heart and Moonlighting.. :lol

My friend pointed out ABC was owned by Disney and that the Ewokes movies was an ABC movie.

Im not saying that the show is not better quality.. But there is an ABC tv channel feel to it that those older shows had.. And my still have.. IDK I dont watch regular tv anymore.

I'm fascinated by The Mandalorian having a certain network vibe. :lol

Incidentally, Disney didn't own ABC until about 10 years after the Ewok movies.

I agree to a certain extent but I don't view these as disjointed. He'd decided his best chance of success was to have other Mandalorians assist him, so in Episode 1 he went to Tattoine because he was following a lead, and after that lead didn't pan out in Episode 2 he reluctantly agreed to take on a passenger to follow the next lead. He's obviously been getting a bit sidetracked but he hasn't lost sight of his ultimate goal. Also, you have to admit the adventures that have sidetracked him have been quite entertaining.

Ya they were which is why i said i enjoyed them but i am excited to see the story pick up, the way i see it we have had 2 espiodes that have moved the story/plot nowhere lol. I could do with less frog egg missions even if i enjoyed watching it. I hope the whole season isnt like this, sure ill be entertained but ill also be disappointed lol

Quick question about the episode that i may have missed but why did the xwings immediately go into attack mode after he sent his transmission to them- he is not imperial so why the hostility??

No doubt they have gone a different direction with the music. It is indeed a TV show so yes the format plays out a bit differently than a 2 hour film. I just enjoy the feel/vibe of The Mandalorian universe and that it stays mostly within the parameters of the original universe. I also love the Easter eggs they put into the show without a character overtly or verbally pointing them out. It just feels like a show put together by lifelong fans who probably once owned the Kenner toys.

I get that but speaking of not moving the story forward (and ABC :lol), it wouldn't surprise me if we even got a Lost-style flashback episode at some point to explain how Moff Gideon obtained the Darksaber.

Do you suppose they will do the Fett flashback in the same episode?:monkey3

Has there been talk of a Fett flashback? Regardless, I don't see how those would be readily connected...

They aren't connected, I was joking. I'm just saying that both flashback events seem worthy of a visual explanation. And I think most fans would love to see these events happen on their televisions.

:lol

Gideon's an established character in the show whereas Fett is an outlier, so I'd think there's a better chance for a Gideon flashback as it would be more pertinent to the current story. Now if there's a Boba Fett spin-off show then I could definitely see that happening. How could they NOT show how he escaped the Sarlacc pit?

I don't know there is just something about the show that does not fully grab me. It just feels too much like an older TV show. Much of that has to do with the music. Ive said that before but the music is a big reason for that TV feel.

It feels a lot like '80s TV a lot of the time, but I've always felt that was intentional.

I found my self LOLing at the Mando / Tuskan raider dialogue.. Was that supposed to be kind of stupid / funny :lol

The galaxy's denizens do need to communicate with each other, but Mando honking and grunting (or Mechanic Lady squeaking and grunting at Frog Lady) stretch believability. I mean Han and Chewie I accepted because I was a child and it stuck, but it's hard to deal with this stuff as an adult. :lol ... I would have preferred some alien races requiring sign language or mechanical/computerized translators.

The Marshal telling his story while riding on Anakin's Pod racer parts made me roll my eyes.. I hate when movies and shows act like talking from vehicle to vehicle is just like sitting at a table.

Very jarring. Pulled me out of it instantly. Also didn't feel like they were synching the implied speed with hair, clothing, face etc.

While I do not mind this.. People that love the show should not complain about any fan service in the ST / PT / or spin offs.. I mean R5-D4, Gamorrean Guards, Anakin's Pod racer engine.. I dont mind fan service.. It always makes me smile for the most part so I never understand why people complain about it. Well except for the Pando Baba and Cornelius Evazn in RO... Ugh I hated that one.

The R1 cameo didn't bother me as much as the near-constant 'small galaxy', 'all roads lead to Tatooine' vibe of this show. To be honest it doesn't kill the enjoyment for me but I'd prefer it wasn't there.

I cant help but think of The Holiday special and Bea Arthur every time Mando meets up with that old lady on Tatooine.. She just feels so out of place.

Freaking hate that character. Like every cheap NPC from every lame game I've ever seen. Sucks the cool out of the show instantly.

I think if I was a bigger fan of Mando as a character it would help. Not ever seeing his face does not help. Hard to warm up to him as a character. He's OK but I would think after 9 episodes I would be more invested.

The show is *very* entertaining, but I feel it's uneven and Mando's character development is on par with cartoons for the most part.

Its an easy enough watch as I love the SW Universe. I just don't get the huge amounts of love that it gets.

I love it but in order to do so I keep reminding myself they're still aiming at kids.

[...]I can't put my finger on it, but much of the dialogue for secondary characters feels very lazily written and too contemporary, or inorganic to this film world. Not that the PT dialogue was better, it wasn't, it was atrocious, but it fit more.

Bad dialogue is a Star Wars tradition since 1977, but it needs to be bad in a specific way. :lol ... I think you may be spot on about 'too contemporary'.

The Child was a real ******* in this episode. Murdering all those eggs of a nearly extinct species. Was that supposed to be cute?

Maybe he really is a Dark side user....and Mando's final test is going to be putting him down once and for all.

Nah, I think they're just leaning into the child being ... well ... a *child* and extremely troublesome. He's also growing up in a very unstructured and generally violent environment and his origins are murky, so ..

[...] It was a little weird to hear Mando call her a frog though. I believe that may be the first utterance of an Earth animal's name in SW.

THAT'S THEIR WORD YOU INSENSITIVE CLOD!! But seriously, yeah...closest thing we heard was Womp *rats* but I feel using 'frog' was a very bad call.

He's a baby, he has no moral compass, it's made clear that Mando isn't the best person to be caring for him, which is why he is trying to reunite him with his own kind.[...]

Yep, kids are ****s.

[...] The only thing that made me roll my eyes was Filoni cameoing *again* as an X-Wing pilot. Okay do it once as a fun little wish fulfillment Easter Egg. But gratuitously insert yourself into multiple scenes in multiple sectors? What are the odds that Mando would run into the same pilot in back to back encounters in different parts of the galaxy. Come on dude, you had your fun once now don't become the next M. Night Shyamalan.[...]
.

I'd buy it if he could act or had more of a pilot vibe. I don't like where Filoni takes Star Wars in general, though, so I may be biased.

What a waste of an episode. Good to know it is skippable on repeat viewings of the series. A bad example of filler. Nothing of importance to further the narrative during the entire episode. Was surprised to see Favreau was the writer as the credits rolled.

Game of Thrones (before the final season) this ain't.

I guess one of them ran his plates, switched to a closed channel to suggest they get ready to light him up. S-foils in attack position is a dead giveaway so they almost didn't need to bother trying to be private about it. :lol

Republic cops are ****s. After all was said and done they left him on that planet to freeze. Make up your minds, guys.

I was wondering about that... So I dont know why it has an ABC vibe to it.. but it does.

That's cool.. In no way am I trying to ruin anyone's enjoyment. Its just not hitting all the right spots for me still. Part of that is that for me it has that ABC look..

Next episode Filoni flys a B-Wing :yess:

:lol :lol

THAT'S THEIR WORD YOU INSENSITIVE CLOD!! But seriously, yeah...closest thing we heard was Womp *rats* but I feel using 'frog' was a very bad call.

Don't forget the Falcon!

Yes they did use the words rats and falcon. I guess because they were connected to other words (womp/Millennium) they don't come across as blatant Earth colloquialisms like just saying the word frog on its own.

I don't know, it's hard to put my finger on what is and isn't appropriate speech in SW. Mother, father, brother, sister? No problems at all. But for some reason when young Owen Lars called Beru his "girlfriend" in AOTC it just sounded very jarring and weird to me to hear someone say that word in a Star Wars movie. What's even weirder is that the use of the term "younglings" showed that they can actually go too far in the other direction as well.

It feels a lot like '80s TV a lot of the time, but I've always felt that was intentional.

Well they are nailing it :lol

It worked with Chewie and Han because they could understand each other. They didnt try and talk like each other (Except in SOLO and that was dumb)

I forgot about the annoying lady talking frog talk.. Ugh...

Very jarring. Pulled me out of it instantly. Also didn't feel like they were synching the implied speed with hair, clothing, face etc.

Strange scene indeed.

I don't mind Easter eggs at all for the most part. I don't even mind that they keep going back to Tatooine... I like that sort of stuff.. I just laugh at those that complained about it in the films but have no issues now.. But that is probably because they are enjoying this show so it does not seem as desperate to them.

Freaking hate that character. Like every cheap NPC from every lame game I've ever seen. Sucks the cool out of the show instantly.

Nail in the head.

I love it but in order to do so I keep reminding myself they're still aiming at kids.

This is a great way to look at it.. Perhaps that is how I need to keep my head at from now on.
