I always thought "The Jedi" in ROTJ is Anakin Skywalker. After all, he was the one who turned back from the dark side.

I wonder how many Jedi we'll learn were running around during the time of TLJ, lol.

Meanwhile 2 planets over from Canto Bight...

Exactly. If you interpret it that way it makes sense. It?s also problematic that Jedi is singular AND plural. So were we seeing a return of a single Jedi ? Or the rebirth of the Jedi order?

I honestly always took it to mean the Return of the Jedi religion, not a particular person. Again many people made the entire OT about just Luke, when clearly GL wanted it to be more about Anakins fall/redemption.

So yes, it works that the purge did not eliminate all force users but eliminated the Jedi as a functioning religion in the galaxy.

It?s akin to the position the Dali Lama is in right now. Tibetan Buddhism is outlawed in his former country , and his ability to practice in his home land wiped out. So in that country , there are no more Tibetan Buddhist , but he is still here and practicing his abolished religion.

Young George wanted it to be all about Luke and I think that's actually pretty clear. But since he was making it all up as he went along, Uncle George decided on the Anakin thing when he unleashed the PT.

It's one of the reasons I can't take any of it too seriously and default to the OT -- which is also inconsistent and held together with tape and excuses, but it was first.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter how many other Jedi were alive during the OT, because none of them could have caused Vader to turn like Luke did, not even Ahsoka managed to succeed in that.

Exactly. Airtight continuity is not a requirement for me to enjoy Star Wars. I don't even mind retcons to the OT...if they're done well. Sure I cry foul at ESB Boba's new voice but if we lived in an alternate universe where somehow Pedro's Mando was actually PT Fett and then George went and had Pedro re-record ESB Fett's dialogue and he actually sounded cool I probably wouldn't have even cared or hell might have even preferred the change.

But break continuity or retcon something to make it *lamer* like tying ESB to kid Fett and TM's utterly half-assed line readings? That's when I start to compartmentalize and get into my own personal/head canon on what is valid and what isn't.

So the Mando series implicating that Ahsoka or other Jedi might have been alive during the OT isn't entirely out of bounds for me if the net result is a positive. Same with Palpatine's return. I know you hate the ST so this will fall on deaf ears but the manner in which Palps "died" and the payoff of his return *are* a positive for me so I'm fine ignoring or handwaving away the minor (IMO) silliness that you need to accept for it to get there.

Vanity Fair has a Filoni article out where he says Favreau told him the name in season 1, so I guess I can't blame Filoni for giving Baby a name that sounds like something you make from sauerkraut and Spam.

I HIGHLY doubt they are going to connect this series with the ST. They are trying there damndest to move away from it

Agreed, as long as they don't overtly contradict something from an existing property, they are just going to borrow what they want and keep making content.

Its not unlike the clone wars show, where they just spend a couple of years filling gaps between movies. Here they have basically decades to fill in between the ST and the Kennedy Pooptilogy.
