And don't forget...Grogu is ADORABLE.

Me: Now Grogu's gone I can finally start watching Mando.

Well ... I'm a solutions-oriented kinda nerd:

(There is a second part in this series but even I thought it was too dark.) 😬

... or is it? 🤔

This season is very obviously about Din reclaiming his place as a Mandalorian and perhaps having to come to terms with some unfortunate truths about the ‘cult’ he’s been brought up in. This arc does not require Grogu. Grogu’s arc in this show was concluded in Season 2. Now he’s just here again because of the fears the writers had that Din couldn’t maintain the interest in the show alone (and also that sweet sweet merchandising money). Unless this changes, and Grogu’s existence has actual plot significance, I’m going to continue to be firmly disappointed in this decision as it is holding the show back in my opinion.

The N-1 parts were pretty cool. The Bo and Din scene at least included some intriguing dialogue. That’s about all I can say for the positives. I certainly disagree with re-launching with a 35 minute episode that abruptly ends. But hey, only 1/8th so a lot of time to improve…

I hope.

What does Bo-Katan do all day?

Day drinks wine in her big empty castle with nothing but her cat-droids to keep her company, bitterly wondering why her sister with a husband and three kids seems so happy. Isn't she the "queen?" Didn't she go out and put her career first? It's not easy to make it in a man's universe, but she did. She had it all.

So why does she feel so empty?

That whole intro scene got me thinking... was that the son of one of the members of that clan? If he is, is there an exemption to the helmet rule? Like.... do they make babies while wearing helmets? Are they allowed to remove their helmets within their main families? Do they have families or do they just steal children off other people? :lol
Thought the kids were all orphans. Foundlings. Every now and then I wonder about the fails. Like if you're a $#;* warrior and just run away do they turn you into housekeepers or lackeys or kick you to the curb. Failed Jedi trainees too.

Not say Mandalorians don't make their own babies but not gonna go there:lightnin and anyway with these "gene farms" mentioned by Kuill not sure the SW world procreates according to Earth rules. Maybe it's like Amazon you can just put an order in.:monkey3

Just watched episode 1 and damn, this episode felt more in line with BoBF than Mando S1 and 2. I’ll still give it a chance to improve but bloody hell, that was a rough start.

For me, nah.

More or less what I expected, in that the Mando episode in Boba was kinda bleak, at the start. Hero's journey and he's at a low point - wounded, an ancient weapon he doesn't want, no ship, no child, and then no identity. But he starts rebuilding, with the help of "lowly" friends he's made. He doesn't get help from the very "family" he swore loyalty to, but from random strangers (which is interesting). Not to mention, that same family historically blew off Mandalore, then and now. So who is more "Mandalorian"?

So this episode was putting the pieces on the board. Like, it's good he told the other Mandalorians what he was doing (and, assuming the other Mandalorians are remnants that fled the slaughter on Nevarro, it was great to see them in DAYLIGHT for the first time). Better than down the road, Din D'jarin just showing up and saying, "hey, I retook Mandalore with my new buddies, and I'm king now, yah? And BTW, do what I say or my Mythosaur will eat your heads rolling in the sand that I took with this really cool lightsaber, helmets and all. Also, my bro Boba is gonna turn your cave into a smoking crater we'll fill with water later and turn into an indoor spa".

And personally I'm glad Grogu is with him. Was never happy about the Luke insert so early in the series. Lol bad baby. 😁 IMO there's some nice continuity touches like the thriving Navarro vs. the slummy streets while the Empire remnants were there. Empire=bad, Empire gone=happy rich people and street mimes.:monkey3 The crocodile/ankylosaurus? was cool, rolling like a crocodile would (to tear off flesh); respect that the show is pulling from nature/prehistoric animals, so someone is doing their homework instead of random designs.

Only thing I find mild irritating is why the *&^% doesn't Mando go back to Arvala-7 and rummage around Kuiil's place for parts. Maybe the place would have been take over or stripped by now., but who knows. Like maybe Kuiil kept parts and backups.:hammerhead:

^%$*. Show just started and I'm too involved.:lol I'm gonna get slapped again at some point, probably when another show is taken over by the unkillable Ahsoka just so Filoni can get her into the minds of the *general audience* and keep those Disney stockholders happy. But I will forgive all if Bill Burr makes a reappearance.😁

One thing I liked was this protocol droid. It looks like 3PO's exact body and color scheme, but with a toaster for a face. Gives me "Mongo Beefhead Tribesman" kitbashing vibes.

Not a bad summation. I mean -- I'm well aware of the episode's weaknesses but I still don't think it's BoBF or Kenobi levels of bad, it was never meant to be Andor, and this series has always been really uneven from the beginning.

Regarding your comment above: so ... you don't want Grogu ... err ... deal with??

Late to the party sorry.

For anyone who just compared this to BOBF shame on you go buy some glasses and I mean shot glasses lol

Look I think we got a pretty damn great balance going on between Sour Andor and Swashbuckling Mando!

I’ll take BOTH AS THEY ARE both are providing everything I need from SW!

For those that are complaining that the clan should’ve just ran away like little wimps into their cave or fly away like little scaredy cats away from the giant alligator well NO!

I like my cult clan to be crazy, stupid and brave commandos of course they’re gonna be stubborn and stupid that’s what cults do that’s why cults drink poisoned Kool-Aid!

Regarding Grogu freaking STILL LOVE HIM deal with it! I mean come on my freaking heart just melts as does my wife’s lol

Regarding the goofy pirates they worked for me because goofy pirates do goofy things that wins them goofy prizes and that was a spectacular space chase scene!

Regarding Babu Friks they were perfectly utilized here unlike TROS.

Regarding brooding Bo loved it Yum Yum i’ll take that manly woman home and make a Rey with her!

The episode worked because it left me wanting more, WIN!

BOBF are you fracking mad there was nothing here even close to those silly biker kids or Fett’s rabbit epiphany!

This is actually pretty accurate. I bet a lot of this stuff happens.

I hope Boba DOES realize that Tattooine sucks and he leaves.

Bo may well end up trying to kill Din. I think she's going to end up doing other activities with him tho. Other... yeah. One could say:
WHY NOT BOTH. She is mad as hell at him, meanwhile this boi is 🔥

A chance to see a shirtless scene at the living waters of Mandalore site is one of the things that would spice up this show, ngl 👀

Here for any and all Mandalorian flashbacks.

Din realizes his ship doesnt have enough room, LOL. Hell even Grogu knows that much.

Will Paz make trouble for Din? You betcha.

The most interesting interaction was in Bo's empty throne room, imo. There was a lot of tension there. Bo has reasons to really resent Din. I think right now its very much "I hate myself for loving you" with Bo. I'd much rather they bore down on scenes like that, and went much easier on scenes like Babu Frik's family reunion.

This means that the Kitchen Droid is incoming.

Mandalorians absolutely can and do have their own children. They're actually very set on it, its in their creed iirc. They view it as a cultural duty to procreate. Adoption is seen as a valid policy too, though. Not only are they warriors, they're very nurturing in their own way. Din's instant adoption of Grogu is absolutely The Way, in that respect.

Not all Mandos are warriors, they actually have a word in their language for Mandos who are not warriors. Not everyone CAN fight. But everyone can do their part.

Mandos are actually so set on children that if a man is off Mandalore for an extended period, if his wife has a baby while hes gone no big deal. The child becomes a member of the husband's clan and is a member of the family with absolutely no grief or stigmatization. Mandos are realists in this respect, both parties understand that if someone is off on a mission for months or years that people are people and stuff is gonna happen. No one is blamed.

Thank you for coming to my Mandalorian Reproductive Matters TED talk.
