But it also said it's unlocked, so you can actually get service from other providers provided you can put a card into it, whatever type of SIM card it uses.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Are you guys forgetting this? No contract for the 3G plan.

The Apple iPad will come with two 3G data plans through AT&T, one of which is just $30 per month with no contract. You can cancel at any time with no penalty, and use AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots for free.

The other plan offered is $15 for 250MB of data, also through AT&T. You can activate directly from your iPad, which is objectively a pretty great deal given that you generally pay $60 for unlimited data on your laptop. The ability to cancel whenever you want to is also a boon, given how out of hand ETFs have gotten lately.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

You have to take comments like those on there with a grain of salt, like you see here, some people will post rants like something is total trash just because it isn't entirely their vision for it. The key is to sift through and find people pointing out features not included and just determine for yourself if that matters or not.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

No contract is nice, it's just still a debate over wanting to pay fees. Where I'm considering this tool as a supportive piece for my photography as the primary function, the internet, music, movies and other stuff is just secondary.

As well as it should... I don't really get all the hype it's a LCD laptop and it's thin.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Well if I could do Skype with it.. maybe it's worth it. But right now with it not doing Flash - I can wait.

I'm used to the fees. Any iPhone user (or other smartphones like Blackberry or Palm) already sees the iPad's 3G data plan as vastly improved and cheaper than the former.

With my iPhone, I'm paying $60-ish per month for 3G with a stinkin' contract, which now I consider absolutely ridiculous in the face of the iPad's payment plan.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

I'm neutral BTW, I'm not PC nor Mac lover, I just develop software for both platforms including UNIX. Just in case anyone wants to stab me.

I don't understand why most of their newer browser don't support Flash either... it's anything 64bit they are scared to port.

I'm ok with the fees in general, it's more of a debate as to how much do I feel the need for the functions it gains me. I've got a data plan for my cell phone, I pay twice as much a month now as when I just used it for calls, and ultimately, I don't use the net features that much. Maybe I'd try the iPad for a month with 3G on and see how much I use it and cancel if I'm not capitalizing on it much.

I do really like that this can offer me a solution to my photography want, I really didn't want to spend more than $1000 on a device for the purpose, but getting any laptop worthwhile to power heft photo uploads and all would run like $1500 or more, the biggest package for this runs less than $1000 and it'll do exactly what I want, plus integrate with my Mac computer.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Didn't see it mentioned during my quick breeze through but is there a camera built in?

That's probably the best way to go forth. But I hope you're not expecting a similar level of power compared to a $1500 device.

No no, I just mean that if you found a laptop for the same price as this it'd probably be a useless POS.

All I really want to do is be able to load large photos and view them as I take them out on a job, if I'm at a photo shoot or a wedding and have concerns about how shots turned out, plug in the camera, load them, and take a look. I'm a novice with photography, I don't have the experience behind me to just know in my head that I've got the right show without being able to see if I did indeed, and sometimes things look nicer or worse on the in camera display then when you load them into a proper viewing device like a computer.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

No camera at all - which is a big drawback.

And no Flash - means no buy for me. I wonder if the HP Slate can do Flash?

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Still needs improvements!

"No built-in camera (so no, there's no facial recognition that would, for instance, automatically identify different family members and switch to their personalized iPad view). No TV subscriptions (as had been previously rumored). No Flash support for the Web browser. No app multitasking. No haptic feedback for the virtual QWERTY keypad ... and indeed, nothing all that new on the UI front at all."

Dave curious why you would want a camera on something like this?

I am more curious if I can play my BDs on it.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Really this is a cooler bigger iTouch/iPhone. No Camera and no Flash is a let down. I was all excited about this, now I'm not so sure. But since I'm a gadget geek and impulsive, I'll probably get it. :wacky

Serious question: what big advantage will this give me over my current 10.1" Netbook which is only $250.00 with 8 hours of battery life. :huh Other than being the coolest kid on my street. :lol
