Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Question for people with iPod Touch and iPhones, if you want to use them like to listen to music or watch a movie on a plane, I assume there's a way to disable the Wi-Fi and 3G connections because you can't use cell phones in the air?

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

I ____ing want one. I don't give a ____ about naysayers it's going to be the next best thing.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Probably won't be until summer before I get mine, but I do plan on getting one, I think it'll be a very useful thing to have.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

but I still want one just for the Ereader feature....everything else is a nice bonus!!!

Bingo. I was going to buy a Kindle which is already close to $300. This at $500 is definitely worth it to have color and an interface I already love. Everything else is just gravy. Honestly it looks like the folks who wanted a touch screen laptop are disappointed but the folks who were looking for an eReader are over the moon. The rumors like always get out of hand and sets people up to be disappointed but I can't wait to get mine. I'm hoping to have one by the summer.

Yeah I'm not sure what I would use this for. I want one just because it looks fun. But since I don't have a reason to use it would probably go to waste after a week or so. I have my Imac not sure why I would need this. I travel once a year. I also have my BB Tour that I use at work and when I want to web browse. And that fits in my pocket. Damn this think is cool though if you can find a way to apply it.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

It seems like some of Apple's creations like this get mixed receptions because they're more advanced than another maker's version of something, but at the same time, come close but not enough to also being something else.

From what I gather, people using something like this for the functions it can do like it better than the competiton and think it's got better functions, but for some people, it's almost on the edge of being a next gen laptop too, but didn't go that far, and it's a bummer item.

If Apple just made their equivalents of other products, they'd be viewed that way, but they usually push past the competition but stop short of being something even more than just better than the other guy, and i can see the frustration for those wanting the more, it's like rooting for someone to win a race and seeing them walk off before the finish line.

Exactly. I actually have a Kindle saved in my Amazon cart because I was planning on purchasing one.

This is how I view it too. Many people were expecting some incredible piece of machine...which it kind of is in a sense. Does it do any ONE thing better than the competition? No, but it does MANY things in one single device. I know I will find myself sitting around the house playing with it instead of firing up the laptop to jump on the internet, watch a movie, or listening to music.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

I think also, some things people are looking for will likely require further R&D before a device of this size and design can perform it. I'm sure Apple is working on getting OSX to run on it and basically have this sort of device function as a laptop, but a computer vs. this sort of device requires different components and functions internally to drive such uses.

Not to say everything people are looking for isn't possible now, but I think some things just aren't there yet. As fast as technology seems to advance every year, I'm a little ok with some things not being achieved yet.

Get too advanced and next thing you know.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

This has been bugging me, so I looked into it a bit and found this:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/27/AR2010012704221.html

Not cool.

Ouch indeed. I thought it looked the same as well, but just figured Apple had some deal worked out. I don't really think it'll hurt his business too much, but I do see his point that iBooks will probably become mainstream and Delicious Library will not get any recognition from it.

Exactly and then Maul and I will have to lead the fight as the resistance because we've been working out... TRUE STORY!!!! and write that down. :lecture :lecture :lecture

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

They have great products too. :lecture

Yup, if they could just bring the damn price down on some of them.

Though one product of theirs I'm not a fan of are their displays, there's no ventilation system for the heat, I don't get why they don't have this, as they heat up quite hot, even in an air conditioned room.
