Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

No USB, but the camera connection kit has a USB adapter that plugs into where the dock connector is. I haven't read up on if you can just use it as a USB adapter or if its meant solely for transferring pictures. I don't have the spare cash to get one yet, but as soon as I do I'll probably get one.
It does say "photos and videos" in the description, but I'd like to know if you can just transfer anything that's on the drive.

Ah, that is interesting and that might sway me away from the iPad until I get a new laptop. Man, going to be expensive year, new gaming/development desktop, new lappy maybe and potentially and iPad.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Personally I don't see a huge problem with it as I've just been transferring stuff straight from the laptop. However, it would be 100% awesome if you could carry the dongle and just transfer Powerpoint presentations and what not on the fly.

Yea actually that is a good point.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

My boss is thinking of getting one of these to replace her laptop when she travels.

I have a few concerns about that - as she is not tech savvy and the simplier something is the better.

Does anyone know if it is easy to get hotmail on this? And to download attachments that are either word, exel or pdfs?

I've been reading reviews but some people say it's easy and some people say it's a pain. I don't really trust any of them. :lol So if anyone here has tried it, I would be curious to hear your thoughts. Also is it easy to set it up to a wireless printer?

As far as email and internet browsing are concerned if it is anything like the iPhone it should be easy doing that. Not sure about downloading files though, especially microsoft based formats.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Also sense this is wireless with wifi, there's printers out there that work on the same wifi signal that will print wirelessly since this thing doesn't have USB.

802.11B/G/N etc....

Cool thanks. I've just read problems with hotmail freezing up when you try to open it on safari. I think I may recommend that she wait a year and get a later version once they have worked out all the kinks. She's wanting to get the 3G one coming out later this month.

cool....it sucks it doesn't have USB though. She has a printer at her home in California but it is not wireless. Guess she will need to get a new printer.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Currently there are no print services in the iPhone/iPad OS and it wasn't mentioned in the preview of the next one either. If printing is necessary then your princess is in another castle.

Well that is a fail. :lol I think I need to tell her that this is a fun gadget, but it is going to be incredibly frustrating to try and use for business while she is travelling (which she does a lot).

While the iPad has many excellent uses, if someone is a business person and really needs a business savvy device for travel, the iPad is not for them.

Now if they want something that will entertain them in the form of games, movies, tv shows, simply browsing the web and checking personal email. Then the iPad is the perfect device for them!

And that is why I want this soooo bad!

:lol:lol:lol WOW.... well then never mind Jen, sorry I would expect plain wifi to work with printers as well.

that is my bad. :lol :monkey4

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

I just did a search, there are plenty of Apps for iPhone and iPad that allow you to print via WiFi.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

I finally got to play around with one at the store. Loved it, but I don't want one until they can multitask.

Cool. Now here is a serious noob question, so please be kind.

If the iPad can not multitask, how can one open an attachment from an email and then run an application to print it. Wouldn't that be considered multi-tasking?

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

You would probably have to save the file and print it with the app or there is a possibility that the app adds itself to the mail client and becomes another function available like the keyboard add-ons. There is a bit of multitasking occurring, when I receive an excel sheet to my phone, it opens it to view and play with while still in the email client without stopping one or the other. What people are really referring to for multitasking is running something like Pandora at the same time as reading an e-book or playing a game while getting a text message and being able to answer that without having to leave their application.

Funny thing is that jailbroken phones can do that, my buddy can answer an email or text message without ever leaving his current app and run multiple apps at the same time without losing his progress via add-ons with Cydia so the phones and one would think the iPad would both be able to do this....for some reason Apple isn't allowing it to function that way right out of the box....

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Thanks for the explanation. :) I appreciate it. If my boss does get this, I know I'm going to be the one who will have to figure it all out and then show her how to use it.
