Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

:lecture:lecture:lecture

That's a main reason I got it for them. They had the hardest time getting video chat to work on their HP laptop. Funny thing, when I showed my dad how to FaceTime, his response was "it's so easy".....

It's crazy easy. :lecture My girlfriend is out of town on externships, and I don't know what we'd do with out it.

I'm trying to convince my mom and dad to get an iPhone. (I think the iPad is out of question for now.) Would love to see them with FaceTime. I don't think they realize how nice and convenient it is.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Reports are the iPad 3 is gonna have a hi res screen and apple is having trouble meeting demands. Most likely will be a limited supply again.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

So I picked up a 16GB iPad 2 last week and i think it is fantastic. The only thing though is that it has a medium amount of light bleed on the left hand side. I've seen on various forums cases much worse than mine. It's something I could live with, if I had to...

My question is: would it be best to try to wait at least a few months for a replacement? I bought it from the Apple Store, so I should be able to bring it in within the next year for a replacement, right? My 14 day return window is this Sunday, so I'm just curious of my options.

i had a dead pixel and i brought that badboy back. i wouldnt wait . its a 14 day return policy for a reason.if you wait then youll probably get a refurbished one later rather that a new one now

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

A lot of cool stuff in that video, but I doubt we'll see any of it. I'm expecting a thicker iPad 2 with a hi res screen and faster processing and a better camera. That's it.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

The one thing I don't like about the concept video, is the edge to edge display. If it's a touchscreen, wouldn't you be touching the screen by accident all the time, unless you put your hands on the back? I've seen a lot of people wanting edge to edge but seriously, it's a bad idea.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Man I was just telling my wife I would be happy with my IPad 2 for awhile but now I don't know...:thud:

Details:

https://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204603004577267441821060940.html

The new iPad will have a high-resolution "retina" display and connect to 4G LTE services that are offered by carriers like AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless. The tablet will also have a five megapixel camera and a microphone to take dictation.

Apple said the new iPad will start at $499 for Wi-Fi only models—the same starting price as the previous model. Models capable of 4G speeds will start at $629, not including service plans. The new iPad will be available starting on March 16 in the U.S., Canada, U.K., France and Germany.

From another source:

New iPad will record video in high-definition with improved cameras, take voice dictation, will be 4G-compatible

Schiller says the iPad has a new camera, as well. In addition to the Facetime camera, on the "back we have a camera too, and eyeside camera," he says. Better sensors and hybrid filter with backside illumination.

He shows some pictures taken with the new iPad. Has auto-exposure and autofocus that "gives you incredible detail and sharpness and auto face detection."

The new iPad lets you compose the photo you want, he says. Autofocus and white balance "deliver a great photo experience."

Also it will have HD video recording, he says. He plays a quick home movie clip from a beach with kids dodging the surf, and the quality of the video is stunning.

Schiller shows more videos, both unstabilized and now newly stabilized with the new iPad 3, and the difference is startling.

New camera will also have temporal noise reduction.

Fourth, he says, "we'll have voice dictation. Keyboard built in and now a microphone on the bottom of the keyboard and it'll dictate what you have to say,'' he says, demonstrating the new feature. A voice talks about Barcelona, with comma and period spoken, and it translates perfectly into text.

The crowd applauds and loves this new feature.

Fifth feature, Schiller announces, is new generation wireless, and crowd applauds. 4G LTE is here.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Retina display will look nice.

4G doesn't matter, because I'd get a wifi model.

Voice dictation seems like a temporary solution until they integrate Siri in the next model.

Better quality camera is fine, but I'm not going to wave around a big old iPad to shoot photos/video.

Several of the selling points don't really convince me to upgrade. If these things were in a new iPhone, it would make more sense. But considering the way I use my iPad alongside my iPhone, the only real draw here is the increased resolution.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

My wife has the 2 so I might jump in with this one. The website won't even load though so it looks like I may not get a preorder in.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

^You and me both.

Bought the GF an iPad when it was first released, skipped the iPad 2, and I thought I'd order the "New iPad" (Apple is not "officially" referring to it as the iPad 3 yet) for her (and me), but the Apple Store is completely frozen. Reminds me of Sideshow's site last week.
