Thorn might have ultimatly been stupid, but Halloween 4 and chunks of Halloween 5 were pretty damn good horror movies. There is no way those movies would have resembled what we have if they hadn't been forced to work the family angle into them.

Even most of what is good about Halloween H20 has to do with the brother/sister stuff between Michael and Laurie. I guess you could argue that not alot would change if they did the same movie with no blood relation between Michael and Laurie, but there is no way that awesome last scene would have been nearly as effective, nor would there have been much of a reason for Michael to have tracked Laurie down.

They resembled crap, from the thin plots to Michael's wonky mask. I'll argue all day long that Zombie's remakes are better than everything after 2. When Curtis refused to return, the films came across as desperate and contrived. The Thorn plot really killed any legitimacy the franchise had and when they got rid of it, the backpedalling was poor. Even Curtis' eventual return in H2O didn't make them any better. :lol

Yeah the coveralls in the original Halloween were actually a color calld olivewood which discontinued by the time Halloween II was filmed so for that film they used Spruce. In Halloween IV the were navy herringbone, in 5 they were dark gray in part 6 they were charcoal gray in H20 they were finally navy blue and the same were used in resurrection.

And Rob zombies were devoid of suspense and actual scares and full of trailer park trash and unnecessary profanity. And they pretty much ripped off the teen cardboard cutout characters and dialogue of part 5.

Good post. Although I erally don't like 2 and I actually like 3. The only reason I ever hewar people say they don't like 2 is because iot didn't have Myers. Not because it sucked or what ever. I felt the same way when IO first saw it but once I opened my mind to it and just watched it as a halloween based movie I dug it. I mean I think it took some balls to do a sequel without Myers nit to mention they were knocking off kids which is something you do not see a lot.I think the original idea of going with an anthology of different halloween tales is better than what we got. I hated the way Myers looked in 4. He was so goofy looking it was almost unwatchable. Those big shoulder pads, the ****ty mask and his overall performance was atrocious. The mask was soooo bad. :lol . Out of the big three Myers has the worst sequels unfortunately. The best being Jason and Freddy after him. But it's a pretty big gap. But even in the bad Freddy movies I can at leasty get a chuckle here and there. Not the case with Myers. The original is in my top 5 favorite horror movies.

I agree with this point with a couple of exceptions. First I would say that the first RZ Halloween remake was better than everything after the original part 2 but not RZ's second film. That one belongs in the same heaping pile of the other bad sequels. Secondly, I feel that if they actually would have ended the original series with H20 it would have been better. In other words, H20 is pointless to watch now because we all know they continued it with Resurrection.

I don't consider Season of the Witch a "Halloween" movie. I got over the initial WTF watching it the first time and was able to look at it as it's own creepy vintage classic which just so happened to share the same name as a Shat-faced psycho killer. It's really a shame though that such a decent horror flick would be forever tarnished because Carpenter and other studio execs didn't realize what they had on their hands regarding both properties. :(

Yup, Resurrection made the H2O ending literally laughable. Suddenly, and completely out of character, the "unstoppable force" that is Michael puts his costume on an ERT and tapes his mouth? Yeah, not buying it. :lol As for Zombie's H2, I hated it the first time I saw it in theatres, but after watching it a few times, I've come to understand it and appreciate it more. I'll take the White Horse explanation any day over Thorn. :monkey1 :lol

Yeah I can honestly say it's a "good horror film". It just didn't feel like a Myers Halloween horror movie. If they didn't do the whole Hobo Myers look and played the iconic theme at least once during the actual film, I would have liked it a lot better. But to be fair, it's not a bad movie in general.

Zombie tried to take Myers and make him different than Carpenter's, which is a horrible act to have to follow. So he took him in the exact opposite direction Carpenter did, which, unfortunately, turned him into Jason. :lol

RZH1 (Youtube version) I prefer. It was decent. RZH2, once the hospital dream sequence stop, movie went down hill. I tried to watch regular and uncut/directors cut, but can't bring myself to go through it ever again. I get what he was trying to tell, but failed in executing it. Top that off with what he did with Loomis.....unforgivable.

And il argue all day long that even the disaster that was Ressurection or the wonky thorn plotline was better than the redneck over the top crap that was Rob Zombie's Halloween. Zombie's idea of scary is apparently just to cram as much blood, swearing, and sex into two hours as he possibly can, while completly ignoring concepts such as character development (except for the over-developed Myers), mysteriousness, or suspense. All those concepts which made the first movie work so well in the first place. Not only does he not know how to leave anything to the imagination, he has to make up for it by rubbing the audience's face in it.

Halloween 4 was an excellent film, in many respects better than the original. Hell, even Halloween 5 had some pretty good parts. Who cares about what the mask looked like.

You had me on your side until your last paragraph. :lol Halloween 4 was a decent sequel and yes part 5 had moments...but better then the original? No way.

Atleast part 4 actually felt like it was taking place on Halloween. Remove the one quick scene in the original of Laurie carving the pumpkin with Tommy and that could have been any day.

That's because the movie is not about Halloween at all. It's about a psycho who escapes a sanitarium to go back to his home town to stalk and kill babysitters that happens to take place on Halloween.

Oh and don't forget Tommy walking out the school with a pumpkin and the kids trick r treating on the streets, and Laurie carrying a pumpkin and more kids trick r treating after that and Sheriff talking about Halloween masks being stolen from the Hardware store and lighted pumpkins on front front of houses. Don't how much reference you need through the movie to tell it took place on Halloween.

Then why title the film "Halloween"? "The Boogeyman" would have been an equally valid title. The fact that the movie takes place on Halloween seems to be just kind of an extra detail that they threw into the script last minute, and it shows. The characters seem barely aware of what day it is. (And what kid has ever gone trick or treating in broad daylight?)

I liked how Halloween 4 actually worked it into the plot and made an effort to establish an atmosphere, which is important with holiday themed films.
