Thanks to everyone for being cool about the new statue and my pics :D it made the run around I did before work today worth it and it's good to see the nastiness of the other thread has gone!
Just to cover a couple of ?'s from the thread before I cover off the statue...
It cost $160 US to post to OZ.
I had to pay $289 in customs duty for it...It might have been $269 but I had a bad hang over when Fedex rang me at 8.30 Tuesday morning and couldn't understand him :sick I just rattled off my cc number off the top of my head and went back to sleep.
So basically it cost me $2900 Ozzie dollars. :horror
But I did get $100 reward points and a gift voucher came with it but I don't know what it is worth yet....

Neither my shippers or the statue are numbered.

Ok so the statue arrived in near perfect condition. The only thing that is wrong with it is that the paint on the toe points on both feet seems to be worn off I think from rubbing on the styrofoam. Other than this it's sweet. There are scratches near where the toes touch the base but these are so close to the base it doesn't really matter.

As for the paint job, for the most part the armor paint in the main focus areas is excellent. The greasing effect however is fairly sloppy. Personally I like the grease look, it breaks up the statue a bit more than if it was just all one colour. There are a few areas like this one where the effect is rough.

P1000489.jpg

The arm pit areas are made up of pistons, cables and circuits. These are not painted very well with some pistons half painted and general slop between the silver and red sections. Pretty ordinary at this price point. Sorry I can't get a good picture of this.

My statue also has a downright craptacular left ankle on the underside of the armor. It is just not painted red at all and grease painted over poorly.
The inside arch sections of the feet also have this. It is in a difficult to see spot on the statue but again at this price point sections like this could at least be touched up red by hand and then greased over to fix it up.
Fail.

P1000487.jpg

The neck and should armor area is also rough. It seems to have a stickiness to the v section where the neck joins the armor like excess glue or something is present. It has dust stuck in it and I'm going to try and buff it out.

There is a moulding flaw on the back of the right leg which should have been filled and patched up before and/or during painting. Again at this price point poor. Maybe all of them have this I don't know.

Look, I admit I have picked the ____ out of this statue. It does have some problems.

But I really do think it is great overall. If you like the pose, have the money and the inclination I think you will be happy. But I have learned with collecting not to expect perfection.

I am rarely satisfied with the paint on any sideshow statue. I've seen fishing lures with better paint jobs than PF's. I have an Iron Man bust and have no flaws with it, no more so than every other PF I have of Sideshows. I think I have enough Sideshow product to know that as a factory produced collectible the Iron Man 1:2 is a pretty damn fine piece of kit. After I touch a couple of things up I will be happy with it no end. Since we are all dropping 2k and over for this I can see how some will see this pieces flaws as unacceptable. I can live with them. This thing kicks ass.

Hey man, I just got off a 20 minute phone call with a SS rep (cant remember her name now)...really nice lady though. We were talking about this piece, then I brought up this thread and these pictures you posted. I showed her the pictures you posted and she said that for a piece like you got you would be ABSOLUTELY covered for a replacment at no cost to you for sending it back or customs again if you contacted them....just so you know.
The reason for my call was to ask if my piece came damaged...would I have to pay shipping back into the US from Canada. She told me I wouldnt have to pay a thing if it was for quality or damage. If you get the piece and just dont like it...THEN you have to pay for return shipping. So if I were you...I would try your hand at getting a replacment. Seeing as how you DO have quality issues. Hope this helps...

I am starting to think you guys that are so negative about this are just a bit too picky! I mean look at this! Your complaining about small marks or oil runs!! I tell you what step back, just a little, and admire the art! Dont look at it with a fracking magnifying glass!

WOW! Imagine if you had a TV room/entertainment room and you had these on display!

All i am sayin. Is that this statue is sooo much better than I expected it to be. Yes after all you are right, it's expensive and it's alot of dough. Major faults should be addressed.

so there is no set edition size for these ?

kinda like the endoskull ?

Jake- did you get one ??

I cracked...

$1700 delivered directly from Sideshow. If anything is wrong or I'm not satisfied, the dealer said they'd issue a pre-paid shipping label. If it turns out good, I'm selling off some more stuff and buyin a 1:2 T-800.

p.s. my fiance' is out in Anaheim, CA right now and is going to ____ a brick or two when she comes home to this.

She say I am her "Iron man" ;)

You will be fine!!

Congrats sir :rock

that's a helluva deal

you still thinkin about trading hulk for the mark ii bust ?

That paint job sure looks unfinished and crappy

Even with a power buffer, it would probably be ten minutes of buffing just for one shin piece. Buffing takes longer than you think. What they need are better painters. They better you shoot the paint, the less you have to buff. Working with fiberglass can be tricky. Things often don't fit right right out of the mold, and they need to be individually fitted, needing sanding, and maybe some filler. The problem I see here is that the prep work before paint isn't being done, in the sense that they aren't sanding the joints to get them smooth, and such. After that, the paint isn't being shot properly. Knowing what I know about this sort of work, I can tell you that it would take at least 12-15 hours of sanding and paintwork to get these statues done to the level of quality we want. I suspect that they are only spending maybe 6 hours.
On the other hand, if everything fit right, and it just glued together, then the prep and paint could be done in 5 hours. It's all of the rough spots which I believe are due to incompletely sanded filler and resin, that is the cause of this roughness. It is possible that they could hone their technique as the line goes on, and these could get a lot better as the workers gain experience with building these. However, I admit that I thought that the workers would have experience to begin with. Frankly, I suspect that the profit margin on these is REALLY high, and that far better quality could be had and SS could still make a fairly nice profit.

Even if it takes double the amount of sanding and paintwork to get the pieces looking like they should, why should we settle for anything less? Why should we assume sideshow can't cut into the profit margin on this so they could have the workers doing their jobs properly and eliver a good to excellent paint job. If their current amount of hours they are spending on each piece isn't enough to get it up to standards, then up their hours so we can all feel happy about spending $2,000 for this IM. Some of you are content with the current quality level, and others are not. I am hoping there is still room for a lot of improvement. I am assuming the workers if they take pride in their work will eventually perfect what they are doing if it is just that they are rusty at first. Then it would be beneficial to wait awhile. However if the line of workers get lazy and the product suffers later on compared to what we are getting now, then we are in trouble. Furthermore we shall see the quality level either improving or not as more reviews come in. Overall, I am not being nitpicky and neither are the others who want a better paint job and so forth. Sideshow will sell more of these if they up the quality level. Spend some more time on sanding them and painting them properly and the reviews will be amazing. So far the pictures have not been promising.

No one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy it.

The sad thing is you shouldn't expect it to be anything but perfect.
Secret Compass have this at just over the UK £1000 mark, if this statue was perfect i'd be placing my order for it right now.
