Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

I'm going to post these here since they are just teasers of my other two figures that are 90% done and just waiting for parts. Both are Batman characters, the first quite obvious but the second isn't as well known. I think many people might want a casting of the second figure's head not because of the character, but because it would be EXTREMELY useful in other customs.

HOLY CRAP DUDE! Those are amazing! That IS Gordon I assume!?? Looks great! Get crackin' bro! :rock

And yeah, these challenges are real charger uppers! I wish mine weren't from months back! I have a half finished 1939 Penguin, but he's not far enough along to post pics of yet. Too crude. But he and some others will finish out my 1939 set.

Great stuff guys! I am loving this! I can't get the images out of my mind. :banana

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

FANTASTIC job on Two Face, Les! I'm so glad you finally tackled him. And your color scheme and style is very much like the older comics look, very colorful and almost rotten. I really like the colors for the suit too, not the normal approach at all and still very much in the era... even down to the shoes. :rock

Very impressed Les, and so happy to see the 1939 set getting some love! :D

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

Black Mask! Hell Yeah!

and nice Spender into Gordon custom!

Thanks. I had an extra CSM head lying around and when this challenge came up, it just clicked! I had the extra glasses from a Giles so it worked out perfect. Only had to sculpt the mustache and the head was done. I've actually had this head finished even before the Two-face one. Just waiting for the suit jacket to arrive (and the pants will be better too).

Glad at least one person knows the second guy. His looks are heavily influenced by THE Batman animated cartoon. Just waiting for the black tie and shirt to arrive.Because it is just a skull with a neck post, I can see lots of custom potential with his head.

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

Nice Gordon and Black Mask... I cannot wait to see them done, BADASS customs there. Spender really works as Gordon, fancy that. :lol

Now you just need a Batsignal. :rock

I feel you on the Penguin, Les... I wish my Batman was done. That one will fill out my custom Batman set that I'm working on... HEAVILY inspired by my first viewing of Les' 1939 setup.

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

holy flurkin schnitt!

I have a fav! '39 Two Face rocks my socks Les! Great choice all around with that guy. Love the green scarred, slimy look and that Snoop Dogg outfit is inspired, very dapper '39 zoot suit look to it.

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

I know, who would have thought Spender would be a great Gordon head? He has that "I'll kick the crap out of you" feel to him and that compassion and love of an old man. Very strange.

But like I said, as soon as the suit comes in, both Gordon and Black Mask are DONE!

Yeah, I really liked that the yellow was on the "BAD" side. That way, he is sort of normal crook on the right, black suit, normal face, but more flamboyant and not hiding on his left. I felt he would turn his body towards whoever he was dealing with, based on the coin toss. So, if you saw yellow, you were dead meat! Felt more interesting than the usual. Plus, the suit came that way, so I just went with it. Prefered it that way.
But thanks.

And Joseph, I wanted to compliment your headsculpt and your eye paints bro! Great stuff! You are really awesome on eyes.

And Munch, that Gordon is inspired. I love your use of base figure for that. Giant DUH factor as I never even thought of that! Great job bro!

Still looking at your's Josh....

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

Thanks again everyone. Last two teasers. I promise. Not trying to derail this thread.

Re: The Official SSF Custom Figure Challenge III, Summer 08 PICS thread

Got a couple of entries this time. First up:

Batman: Legend of the Sea Bat
FreaksConEntries068.jpg

Edward T. Wayne led a charmed life of luxury and ease until the fateful day of his 18th birthday. Setting sail with his family and new bride fromEngland to an isle in the Caribbean, his boat was set upon by pirates. Barely managing to escape the flaming remnants of the pirates aftermath, Edward was left floating adrift at sea, watching his loved ones whom hadbeen slain by the pirates burn with the ship and sink into the sea. Distraught and almost without hope he was rescued by the crew of the Lazurus, under the command of Captain Ras Al Ghul. Seeing the burning thirstfor justice within Edward, Ras took the young man under his wing and beganto teach him the ways of the League of Shadows, a group of cast-aways andsurvivors of the sea that had sworn to fight piracy and evil. Edward learnedquickly and became a cunning warrior of the high seas, yet strife arosebetween him and the crew of the Lazurus because Edwards noble heart simplywould not allow him to kill. He sought justice... not revenge. Ras made him anultimatum; fulfill his destiny with the league by embracing their waysunquestionably, or die. Edward chose the noble path and fought his way fromthe ship. Ras, disgusted and thinking Wayne would die at sea, left himbehind. Returning to England after 8 long years away, Edward claimed his family's wealth and used it to fund his personal war on the pirates of thesea. Setting to sea on his new boat, and crewed with men seeking the samejustice he sought, Edward adopted the guise of the Sea-Bat, a menacingcreature waging a never-ending war on piracy...

Reginald Alexander Napier was for many years of his life a talented up andcoming thespian in London. After being set-up for murder by a rival actor,Napier was forced to flee the country. Desperate and penniless, he joined aband of brigands setting sail to the Caribbean. Becoming a cutthroat pirate, he quickly worked his way through the ranks and within several years was thecaptain of his own boat and men. But pirates are a vicious and backstabbinglot and soon Napiers men turned on him. Poisoning him and dropping him overboard, he managed to survive, but the ordeal and the toxins coursingthrough his body left him insane. When he was found a year later on a small island by rum-runners, he killed them and set-off in their ship. Amassing asmall crew whom he ruled through fear, he began a tyrannical reign of theseas. Adorning his face in the grease paints of his acting years, he becamewell-known as The Harlequin. Years have passed and the sun and toxins haveslowly baked the make-up into his face and weathered his skin into atwisted, leathery visage of death. He knows no rhyme nor reason, he existsnow only to kill and torment on the high seas...

Don't know if you even need "teasers" for those BM. They good great!

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

Les, another beauty of a figure... you're going to have to put together another comic book panel series once you have the full set. And I thought I recognized that Snoop Dog suit :lol What an inspired choice, fits perfectly :rock

Next up, Harry Potter: Paranormal Investigator. Grown up, and years away from Hogwarts, Harry Potter now uses his powers to help rid the world of paranormal threats...

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

Saintsyn!!! Damn, great pirate themed figures... love that Joker! Amazing how you were able to make him colorful, yet still dark!

And the Bats is great too... love the sculpted helm :rock I'm assuming a Hasbro Dooku and Sidious for Ras and Joker, but who is Batman from?

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

I'd watch it too... man that is a fun and unexpected idea :rock

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

And I thought...but...
Man! Your figures RULE!!!!! :rock

THIS is why I love Customs! Check this stuff out!!! ALL of them rock bro! ALL! That is some of the coolest ideas I have seen for a Batman! I know the toys companies have made some cheesy figures before of pirate Joker etc., I know! I have them! But this!!!! THIS is amazing! I want to see this movie!!! PIRATE BATMAN! If only!!!

Thanks for restoring my soul!!! LOVE your figures bro! LOVE THEM! :rock

(The Emperor as a Joker base! INSPIRED!

Re: Official SSF Custom Challenge III Summer 08 RESPONSE thread!

saintsyn, absolutely inspired Pirates! I love the Harlequin the best! Very inspired use of the Palpatine head! Makes me glad I actually have an extra one of those lying around. I might just have to steal that Joker idea (although not in pirate form). I'd say you have the most original designs so far! :rock

I also like the "X-files" Potter. Not a bad idea either. I mean Harry had to get a job later right? Kinda the Wizard Torchwood or something? :lol
