Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I love watching the production videos. This will probably be the clearest and sharpest looking movie ever.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I am not a fan of 3-D, but after watching this now I wanna see it in 3-D.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I felt the exact same way. I'll likely see it in 3-D once, then standard a few more times after that.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I actually like 3-D, so I'm excited about it. And I have faith that Jackson won't use it just to show off the 3-D like some directors tend to do.

If movies are intended to be in 3D and done well I enjoy them, so I'm guessing Jackson will do it as a way to enhance the experience rather than make up for a weak film (like others seem to use 3D for).

Yep. :lecture

Btw, what happened to Skinny Jackson? :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

At least this is a true 3d production filmed with a dual camera system.

98% of the 3d films have 3d processing added to them during post production and it looks like crap.

Yeah, that camera system looks crazy. It's amazing how far the technology has come.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm a bit worried about the 48 fps. Every HD demo I've ever seen with frame rates that high looks like video.(and not in a good way)

It resembled every godawful LCD HDtv I've ever seen where the frame smoothing is turned on to hide the 60hz refresh. Makes big budget films look like soap operas.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Can you clarify what you mean by this?

Every major film since the invention of soundtracks is 24 fps. This frame rate was established in the 1930's to accommodate the analog and later optical sound information hidden to the side of each frame of film. Because of this films have a certain aesthetic when it comes to the blurs and softness of image during action.

Higher frame rates smooth all of that out but things start to look like they were shot for TV or even worse a video game on a high end PC.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I doubt there is any issue with this looking bad at all and it sounds like this will become the standard. I doubt they'd be going to it if they thought it was an issue.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

48 FPS? It's gonna look like a ____ing soap opera.
