Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I just want cool 1:6th statues from Sideshow and environments from Weta.

Being on the other side of the pond, i want statues, enviros and busts from Weta! :lecture
Nothing against SS, apart from the cartoon vibe you get from many of their statues, I want realistic looking statues in the same scale as my SSW collection, and statues of the creatures sculpted from the very people who are designing them for the movie :lecture

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I didn't want to get into SS LOTR maquette line as it would not mix with the SS/W pieces I have. However, I would love them to get the 1/6 Hobbit line as they will be a separate set of pieces from LOTR.

The Dwarves, Beorn, Bard and of course a younger Bilbo. Goblins and Orcs will no doubt be represented but the bigger creatures such as Smaug, Trolls and spiders I would like to see in a big scale by Weta, even if it means open edition

Gonna have to watch the trilogy again to get my ME fix until we see some more updates from PJ :yess:

There's nothing cartoony from any of the statues they've done so far so I will disagree with you 110%. I think the current arrangement of SS doing statues and Weta doing the enviros works great and lets both really focus on things.

Didn't they do some comiquette style statues?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think he was referring to the poses rather than the styling.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

There's nothing cartoony IMO and it seems most people's opinion on the poses so far. So again I would disagree 110%.

This is horrid. Is this the official photo of The Hobbit or just some fan mockup?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It's not an official photo, so no, just something Cine Premiere made up to give it a 'Long lake' feel

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Maybe we disagree on what "cartoony" means. I said the styling was not cartoony, clearly the GG maquettes were cartoon style. The poses of gandalf and legolas are of the overwrought, contorted cartoony variety I would say. Gimli, action pose, Aragorn and Boromir, stoic and heroic, Arwen worthless but not cartoony. Legolas and Gandalf are trending that way.

The Long lake pic isn't great but the dwarves in it are legit. I understand the need to find variety but some of em are off the charts. Anyway all of them make it to poly phase?

PS: cartoony isn't necessarily a bad thing anyway.

Personally...I am holding out SOME hope that Bridge Direct gets this right. But...this is being geared more towards the kiddies than LOTR...albeit more adult than the book intended for sure, but still aimed at the slightly younger crowd.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Alright I need your helps guys/gals. I need you all to help me come up with some questions for the marketing team at Bridge Direct.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

One they likely won't answer but: can they draw analogs among current or recently released action figure lines to the two types of figures they are considering? (I predict they say something about not talking about the work of others)

Will there be any consideration to continuity in design when working on these figures? That is, given that Jackson's styling will be present in both series will Bridge attempt to follow the design features of the Toy Biz line. (I predict they compliment the Toy Biz line while reserving their right to their own artistic touches).

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Josh, you have some insider connections I bet. When do we hear about the statue line rights? I mean action figures are cool 8 buck items, the statue line though is a 3-4 year several thousand dollar commitment.

I wouldn't expect to hear anything until probably first of next year, but we might hear something during SS 12 days of Sideshow if they've gotten the license.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

hopefully ss will finally make some good hobbits after this movie! i dont understand why they continue to refuse to make more hobbits when they are the main characters in lotr...

frodo pf looked good but could really use a refresher and more hobbits!

I think Weta will do it to be honest, after what they did last time with LOTR, i'd say they have first dibs. It's Weta's baby after all.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't know, the statue market is very different now than it was when that first license was negotiated. Seems much more of a David and Goliath situation now. I would consider it an upset for Weta to beat out SS. Maybe they will combine forces again??
