Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Why can't they just leave ____ alone? Jackson had a good thing going with Lord of the Rings scope. You don't always have to be a pioneer looking to push the envelope in the latest film technology. All these gimmicks annoy the piss out of me. Can't they just make a picture without these gimmicks?

Tell the story, get the right reactions out of your cast and audience, film it like you filmed the last one. It's as simple as that.

When this project was announced, my only fear was that it would look different from Lord of the Rings. I don't know, like, too modern or new. Sort of like the Original Star Wars trilogy vs. the Prequel Trilogy. Looks like my fears have come to fruition.

I couldn't agree with you more on these points. It was such a stroke of brilliance to film all 3 at once and keep the same look and feel throughout the films.

When I got my LED TV, I popped in a blu ray and was disappointed with the way the picture looked, then I remembered hearing about turning down the Judder and Goodfellas went from looking like a cheesy soap opera back to looking like a film. If the Hobbit looks the way my blu rays looked before I adjusted the TV its gonna look terrible.

Yup, going to look like that.

Only difference will be that Hobbit's additional frames are real frames vs duplicate frames the TV is making up.

Therefore the Hobbit will look even sharper without artifacts.

One thing is certain, Hobbits 3D will be laser sharp.

Want to freak out, watch Raiders and Empire Strikes Back with Dejudder (smooth motion) turned up high. :panic:

Hell, watching any of the older classics that way is wacky!

So weird.

Want to know what another side effect is of Dejudder turned up high, it seperates CGI from real elements.

Watch FF4 Silver Surfer for a great example of this.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, most places will be showing it in 24 and I believe the 2d versions will be only that.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Then there's no problem is there?

LOL

I'll just see it both ways and then whatevzz

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

So, 48 fps is considered a gimmick now? I wonder if people whined like this when they introduced sound to those funny looking moving pictures back in the day?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't know why people are getting so worked up. It's not like PJ is going to release this film looking awful. I probably won't get to see it in 48 fps because of our smaller theaters around here. That's okay. One day I will.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

48fps looks like ____ almost every time.

I was hoping that maybe Peter Jackson could make it work, but it sounds like it doesn't. Might not see this. I can't stand the setting on those flat screen TV's people use sometimes. Horrible.

But...we'll...see...I guess. He better convert that ____ to 24p for the 2D version.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Filmed in 48fps None.

But converted using that setting on flatscreen TV's? A few. That's pretty much what it looks like.

That, and i've seen a few short films filmed that way, and Public Enemies used a pretty high frame right. Or shutter speed. I forget. Looked like butthole though.

Please don't. :lol

Ok. Just so we are clear, you are attempting to appear like you are making educated and definitive judgements on a format you have never actually seen within the context of a full length film and indeed are not sure you have ever even seen anything at 48 fps. Is that right? :)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Celtic.....you didn't like LotR. Why would you want to see this?
