Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Weenie, hon, you haven't exactly expanded on your thought though, just that you wanted to see Aragorn. SSF isn't full of psychics. :huh

If they're happy with The Hobbit ending with Bilbo going home after his adventure and the start of the Fellowship with the prologue to tie the two movies together......then fine. We were talking about the possiblity of a third movie.

As for Aragorn, I didn't say I wanted to see him, I said that IF they were extending The Hobbit to fill in some of the gap between the two movies that he'd be in there. Since he isn't in The Hobbit, they aren't extending it that far.

Maglor, some of LotR was "fan fiction" and didn't follow the books either.

I'm sorry, but it just seems like every thread I've been in the last couple of days, someone is trying to make me feel stupid.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Alright some of what I remember.

  • You got to see some of "riddles in the dark play out."
  • Stone giant tossing a stone at the reveling party
  • Legolas coming out of the leaves threatening to shoot the dwarves.
  • Tauriel killing some orcs
  • Scene between gtg and galadriel on why he choose a hobbit for this adventure
  • Bilbo almost telling gtg he found the one ring
  • The three trolls fighting with the traveling party.
  • Thorin explaining why it's important to get the treasure.
  • Some random events from lake town.

That's what I can remember right now

:clap:clap:clap

:yess:

:panic: :panic:

I can't believe out of all the characters in LOTR that could have had a cameo, Legolas (best character in the series) gets it! :yess:

Eh, the other stuff is good too. :lol

That's true Maggy, some aspects of LOTR were created for the films as is the case with The Hobbit.

For better or for worse, that is true. But I sure as hell don't want a whole movie of that.

The only way I can see this being made into 3 movie would be to have parts one and two dealing exclusively with the text of the Hobbit and have the third be based on things from the Appendices of the LOTR - namely the story of the white council ousting Sauron (the Necromancer) from Dol Guldur, his stronghold in Mirkwood.

In fact if I remember correctly the original plan was to split the two movies this way, with the Dwarves' quest being the focus of the first and the White council being the second. However that idea was abandoned in favor of intertwining the two stories because they are happening at the same time.

As far as what happens between the things mentioned above and when Gandalf talks to Frodo at the beginning of the FOTR it's not enough to make a movie out of. However, I do think it would be cool if they included mention of the following:

  1. Bard rebuilding Dale.
  2. Gollum leaves the mountains and begins his search for the 'thief' and his ring.
  3. Sauron declares himself openly in Mordor - his old stronghold rebuilt.

These things would go a long way to tying the Hobbit and LOTR together nicely, and now that I think of it I really hope they are included at the end of the second movie. However, no way there is enough there to build a whole movie out of.

Not why he gets it.

It's just logical that he and the other elves included (Galadriel, Elrond) would be alive since they are 'immortal'. Aragorn, Boromir, and the Hobbits in the Fellowship weren't born yet or were little kids.

The only other one that might make an appearance (and I think it would be cool) would be a young Gimli (he's 52 years older than Aragorn). :)

Gimli was the son of Glóin, one of the former companions of Bilbo Baggins. He was a remote descendant of Durin the Deathless, father of the first house of dwarven people. Gimli stemmed from, but was not an inheritor of the royal line. (Gimli was also the first cousin once removed of Balin, Lord of Moria). It is also stated in the Unfinished Tales that Gimli was prevented from traveling with his father on the Quest of Erebor, Thorin and company stating his being too young as the reason. Gimli, being in his sixties's, considered himself ripe for adventure and was disappointed to be left behind.

Sure there is, but it would depend on what all they put in The Hobbit. We won't know that for awhile yet.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It will be a dark day if they decide to make an entire movie out of the few things Tolkien barely mentions (literally one or two pages) that happen between the events of the Hobbit and LOTR rather than drawing from the rich wealth of epic beauty from the Silmarillion.

It depends on how they do it and what is actually in The Hobbit. They can draw from different sources, etc.

And how would it be "a dark day" if they do?

Just an FYI, Weenie. You're debating with a freak who literally _____ed about a 1mm differential in the rib armor of the as yet unreleased HT TDKR batsuit. :lol

Never read it, but WB doesn't have the rights to the Silmarillion.

I'll be happy if it just doesn't piss itself over time. :lol

The Sil is never going to happen. Give up that idea now.

What sources? I'm telling you, nothing interesting happened between the Hobbit and LOTR.

Not sure how that relates, but yeah...

The Sil is never going to happen. Give up that idea now.

Why?

To be clear, I'm not suggesting a Silmarillion movie - that's pretty much impossible. I'm suggesting they make a movie out of one of the chapters.

Of Túrin Turambar/The Children of Húrin is a fully formed story with a beginning middle and end.

And The Tale of Beren and Lúthien could easily stand on its own with a Prologue similar to the one at the beginning of Fellowship. We could get a little background of the Silmarils and then they could get right into the meat of the Beren and Lúthien quest and love story. The screenplay almost writes itself.

Honestly, if anyone here liked the story of Aragorn and Arwen, do yourself a favor and read the story of Beren and Lúthien. Believe me, you'll want to see it in movie form too.

If this is what you're referring to Josh, then "doesn't have the rights" isn't the same as "never will have the rights."
